Rick Perry has gotten an early taste of life on the national campaign trail. Within 24 hours of being in the trail, Think Progress, a far left wing group had someone film Perry while he was talking about Ben Bernanke and printing more money.
While that blip has now faded, it is a sign of things to come. What is going on?
It is the left’s never ending quest for the next Macaca moment.
The Macaca moment is a famous moment that is taken from George Allen’s Senate run in 2006. Many perceived Allen as a serious Presidential contender for 2008. Allen, for all of his flaws, certainly would have been better than John McCain. Allen had a tracker following him. A tracker is someone used by either opponents or liberal groups to track and try to catch someone in an embarrassing gaffe. In Allen’s case, he saw the same guy tracking him and said, “This fellow here over here with the yellow shirt, Macaca, or whatever his name is. He's with my opponent... Let's give a welcome to Macaca, here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia.”
Allen claimed he just made up the word. The left went nuts claiming it was a racial slur because the tracker was of Asian Indian descent. It is an obscure slur from the Belgian Congo. The left gave the incident a little push, the drive by media took off with it and what should have been a sure win for George Allen ended up with far left Democrat James Webb barely winning.
Now, in 2012, the left is out in full force, looking for the next Macaca moment. Yesterday, in New Hampshire, some nutty liberal mother tried to push her grade school child to get Rick Perry to say something about evolution. Unfortunately for her, a camera was right behind her, catching every word as she told her son, “ask him about evolution.”
USA Today jumped on the story, with only a brief mention that the mother was pushing the child’s questions.
Of course, there are double standards in the coverage of political “gotcha” moments. In 2008, Joe Wurzelbacher became known as “Joe the plumber” when he asked Obama about socialism and “sharing the wealth.”
Within minutes, everyone knew who Joe Wurzelbacher was. Within days, various state records, some of them confidential, had been accessed to get information about him. He was a just a private citizen asking a question.
Who is the woman who took her son to the event where Rick Perry was going to be? She is obviously a liberal activist who wanted to get a gotcha moment with Perry. But who is she? ABC News, which first broke the video, did not identify her nor did any journalist even try to interview her or identify her. Why?
Could it be double standards at work again?
As Bachmann and Perry are picked apart for every minor mistake they make, like wishing Elvis a happy birthday on the anniversary of his death, none of the drive by media is even looking at Obama.
Obama remains the International President of Mystery. His background remains mostly unknown. Ignoring the whole birther issue for a moment, no one has gone into his background as a student at first Occidental, then Columbia, then even at Harvard. How about his work as an Attorney? Why did Michelle Obama have her law license inactivated after only four years? You can bet if Marcus Bachmann had anything that even remotely smacked of professional misconduct, we would know about it. The media would be all over it.
There is a huge double standard in the media. In the next year, the drive by media will be doing everything it can to help Obama get reelected. The good news for us is thanks to modern technology, we have alternatives to the drive by media.
Let’s call them on their attempts to help the hard left in politics and otherwise, let’s just ignore them. If we do not support the left wing media, the market place will help cure the problem. |

There is a reality and there is just one version of reality. Reality is what it is. Each truth is what it is. Each truth is a part of the whole truth. The sum of all truths is equal to the one reality.
An apparent "double standard" is, in reality, a lack of any standard.

Permalink Reply by Dr. Arthur W. Carpenter on August 19, 2011 at 10:12am In advance, sorry Carl, but I can't avoid a reply. Science takes a lot of hits these days. I have studied and taught science and engineering most of my life. I'm not too shabby and have learned from some great people. I just reached for the signed copy of Paul Dirac's text "General Theory of Relativity" keep out on my coffee table in the 170-year-old log room of my house. I like to keep my future firmly connected with the past least truth and reality become "relative" to the context in which they are presented. Professor Dirac (I have a son buried in a small grave nearby his large monument) was arguably the most famous living physicist in the world when I knew him and he taught me. These ideas we call "theories" of relativity are humanity's absolute best understanding of the behavior of space and time. They are the result of untold numbers of generations of our human ancestors contemplating and interacting with the physical world around us. If your GPS device used Newton's "Laws" of motion to evaluate your location via satellite signals it would not work; they rely on the theories of relativity. We keep learning as we acquire new information about our universe and we keep developing new theories that encompass those physical facts. That is the nature of increasing mankind's understanding of our physical reality.
When they start teaching religion in the form of "Creationism" in my son's public school is the day I put him in a private school.
Wait! I already pulled him from the public schools...but for other reasons...and am soooo glad I did!

Dr. Carpenter,
I am impressed by your interest in and knowledge of Paul Dirac's work. However, your comment is based upon a fallacious statement by Governor Perry. Governor Perry seems to think that creationism is taught in Texas schools. It is not. Were the governor informed by the debates carried on within the world of Intelligent Design research, or the debates carried on at meetings of the Texas State Board of Education, he would not have said such a thing. At the core of Intelligent Design theory is the principle of irreducible complexity within living organisms. At the molecular level, life has turned out to be much more complex than the scientific instruments of Dr. Darwin's day could show it to be. It turns out that the simplest organism is organized by information bearing molecules, molecular devices to extract that information and molecular machines designed and created to carry out the instructions required in maintaining life. Many questions must be asked concerning such complexities. One of those is this: How could such an information rich system have arisen by chance since no advantage is provided by such a system until it actually displays life? Within multi-cellular organism such irreducibly complex systems occur also. If you are not familiar with the growing body of science unfolding in the field of intelligent design, visit discovery.org or this particular page for starters: http://www.discovery.org/a/3408
Darwinist notions are currently treated as dogma. Practitioners of science are always evaluating new evidence and seeking better explanations. Texas' new curriculum involves youngsters in the search for truth that has always inspired great scientists. Let's let empirical evidence and disciplined reason lead the way and hope we can educate a public with both desire and tools to keep up.
I find it strange that those that put all their faith in man and science - professing themselves to be wise - are so intolerant that they try to censor alternate views. Especially since the science that they worship is full of holes and represents nothing but theory.
I mean, man has such a great track record, right?
Mankind isn't getting any wiser. Just more intolerant and angry.

We ain't got no president. The person up there is full of S***.
It seems like the only way to defeat these people is to beat them at their own game. If the vast majority of blogs and alt. media did the same to them it might at least put them on the defensive. It's true that it couldn't compete with the left wing media, but it would at least create some noise where their lies might get lost.
The downside is that we have to become a little like them, which makes me want to take shower. Yuck.

The MSM media is going to do it anyway...with nothing but lies. It's not the seriousness of the offense...it's the seriousness of the accusation.
Did Obama ever have a girlfriend? Just askin'...
