Did you know that on January 1, 2012, 40,000 new laws went into effect?    That is a new law every thirteen minutes.   That is just the new state laws that went into effect.  That does not count the new Federal laws that went into effect in 2011.  Nor does it count rules and regulations promulgated by various agencies that control almost every aspect of our lives right now.

What is wrong with this picture?

If you want to know what is wrong with this country, we have too many laws.  Period.

How many of those laws are really necessary?    The answer is that most of them probably are not.

Do you want to know why we are spending so much money as a nation?  It is because we are passing so many laws.

Every law we pass costs money.   A few years ago, congress got the bright idea to pass ethanol subsidies.   Congress gave .45 cent a gallon in subsidies, which translates out to billions a year.  Finally that bad law died on New Year’s Day.   Unfortunately Congress decided to reward Obama supporters with a $7500 tax credit for the purchase of an electric vehicle.  That is a bad law that should have died.

Every 13 minutes another new law is created.  Are we really better off now with all of these new laws than we were five years ago?

The answer is clearly no.

The answer is also that we need fewer laws and almost every law we have needs to have a sunset clause.   There are some obvious laws that do not.  For example laws against murder do not.  Laws regarding batteries do.  Laws regarding signs do.

The other answer is to make it harder to pass laws.

How about a moratorium on new laws?

Technically it would not be total moratorium, as states must pass budgets to fund certain things like prisons, courts and essential services.  But how many new laws that will be passed on 2012 are really essential?

How many new laws will be a simple waste of time and money?

Here is a suggestion for a governor somewhere.  Veto every bill that comes across your desk except the budget bill.

Here is a suggestion for the Tea Party caucus in Washington.  Filibuster every bill that comes down.    How many bad bills can be killed if we simply stop passing laws?

The Roman historian Tacitus said, “the more corrupt the state, the more laws it has.”

America is up to its ears in laws and if we want to start restoring our freedom and get our budget under control, reigning in our law making bodies is the first start.

Agree with you Gene. Perry has a lot of things right and the best debater does not mean the best President.

2012 is the last chance that we have to defeat Obama and his Socialist march towards destroying America. We also have to elect candidates that are Constitutional Conservatives, and get rid of the career politicians that keep treading water.  All the Tea Party groups in the country should demonstrate often, and make it known to the world that we will not be silent any more, that Obama's administration is a total failure, and keep reminding all voters about the failed policies, fraudulent activities, corrupt practices, and destroy Socialism, once and for all. If it were within my powers, I would begin the "Nuremberg Trials" next week, but since 2008, everyone in Government has been an accessory to the largest silent "coup d'etat" this country has known. It's time to turn this ship around !!!

I agree!   My comment in the above to Judson regarding the ethanol subsidy has been eliminated, but, the ethanol mandate has not; thereby, consumers now have to pay the ethanol companies through the higher price on gasoline.  Where does it say it our Constitution that citizens are required by law to subsidize private companies?  It doesn't.

More to the point about Judson article, dictatorship and socialist government despises religion because people receive their faith and spirtual guidance through their religious beliefs, not the government.  The excessive laws are just many oppressive actions that demand that the people bow down to this government.

When we kick Obama out of office, we need to set up the Nuremberg trials like you have mentioned and convict these criminals to the fullest extent of the law.

A good deal of these laws are against our constitution. Get rid of most of the law makers and regulators and we all would be much better off as we go through our daily lives.

If you read the laws pasted you will see that they are to make the government more powerful and the people more slaves to the government....

While I agree that this country is going nuts with law creation, I do not agree with the idea of blocking every single bill that comes down the pike. it may be an effective way to get the point across, but the point would be lost in the ensuing drama of the news media making the Tea Party look like a bunch of do nothing extremists.

What congress needs to do (both federal and state) is to get rid of laws that are obsolete, outdated or duplicated. It seems that for nearly 100 years congress (at both levels) only passed laws and rarely, if ever repealed them. In every state there are hundreds, if not thousands, of unnecessary, intrusive, and duplicative laws on the books.  The laws on the books should be reviewed every few years and  repealed as necessary.

Gene,

Excellent suggestion about congress & your add-ons.

How many are state laws, how many are federal legislation?

YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GEORGE SOROS' PROPAGANDA MACHINE AND

Paul Joseph Goebbels (October 29, 1897 – May 1, 1945) was a German politician and Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda during the National Socialist regime from 1933 to 1945. He was one of Adolf Hitler's closest associates and most devout followers. Goebbels was known for his zealous, energetic oratory and virulent antisemitism.

Goebbels earned a Ph.D. from Heidelberg University in 1921, on the basis of a doctoral thesis on eighteenth century romantic drama. He then went on to work as a journalist and later a bank clerk and caller on the stock exchange. Goebbels came into contact with the Nazi Party in 1923, during the French occupation of the Ruhr and became a member in 1924. He was appointed Gauleiter (regional party leader) of Berlin. In this position, he put his propaganda skills to full use, combating the local socialist and communist parties with the help of Nazi papers and the paramilitary S.A. By 1928, he had risen in the party ranks to become one of its most prominent members.

After the Nazis seized power in 1933, he was appointed propaganda minister. One of his first acts was to order the burning of books by Jewish or anti-Nazi authors at Bebelplatz. He proceeded to gain control of every important outlet of information in Germany. His attacks on German Jews became ever fiercer and culminated in the Kristallnacht in 1938, the first open and unrestrained pogrom unleashed by the Nazis.

An early and avid supporter of war, Goebbels did everything in his power to prepare the German people for a large-scale military conflict. During the Second World War, he increased his power and influence through shifting alliances with other Nazi leaders. By late 1943, the war had turned into a disaster for the Axis powers, but this only spurred Goebbels to intensify the propaganda and urge the Germans to accept the idea of total war and mobilization.

Goebbels remained with Hitler in Berlin to the very end, and following the Führer's suicide he served as the Third Reich's final Chancellor—albeit only for one day. In his final hours, Goebbels arranged for an SS doctor, Helmut Kunz, to kill their six young children. Shortly after, Goebbels and his wife both committed suicide.

Thats what happens when men don't follow Gods simple ten laws. Men (politicians)  complicate things when they play God, in an attempt to elevate themselves to His level. It makes them feel self important. Any law that tries to go above and beyond Gods laws are just plain stupid. If they are good enough for Him they should be good enough for anyone, duh.

Clear and simple....our government has become a ugly monster.
