We are now coming up on the final test of our Republic. The burden of this test falls on a few people. The decisions and actions of just a few people will decide whether liberty lives or dies in America.
Who are the people and what is the test?
The people are the leadership of the Republican Party in Washington. The test is what do they do with the Obamacare tax.
The Republican leadership has long whined that they only control the House of Representatives. They cannot do anything.
With courage something the Republican leadership lacks, you can do anything.
In this case, they can do something. Immediately they can defund Obamacare. They were going to do that last year but then John Boehner raised his freshly laundered white flag of surrender as he did so often and Obamacare funding was put back in the bill.
The first test of the Republican Party is to see if they will in fact defund Obamacare or whether they will do anything at all.
Mitch McConnell earned some rare praise here as someone who was showing some fight. He was acting like he was willing to do what needed to be done.
Oops, I spoke too soon. McConnell began walking his comments back saying it would be hard to repeal Obamacare and the odds were long.
Here is an idea that might make the Republicans a lot of friends. Defund the IRS.
No, that is not a joke. Obamacare is a tax and most of the enforcement mechanism for Obamacare is going to come through the IRS. Defund it. Period.
Every aspect of the Obamacare tax must be immediately defunded. As of right now, there is no funding for the Obamacare tax and all the House of Representatives has to do is to refuse to spend any money on it.
Obama cannot make the House appropriate money. The Senate cannot force the House to appropriate money. All John Boehner has to do is be courageous for once in his life.
In January, when a new Senate and House meet, the first order of business must be a complete repeal of Obamacare. Thanks to the Supreme Court ruling, Obamacare is legally a tax, which means that only 51 votes are needed to repeal Obamacare and the filibuster is not an option.
The new Congress should pass a simple repeal of Obamacare and have it ready for Mitt Romney’s signature the day he is sworn in as President.
If the Republicans do not immediately defund Obamacare and actually repeal it as the first order of business in January, we know they are not serious about liberty and freedom.
If the Republicans do repeal Obamacare, they will deserve our continued support.
If the Republicans continue to play games, do not repeal Obamacare and simply decide to be the managers of big government, it will be time for the Tea Party to go.
If the Republicans do not eliminate Obamacare, it will be time for the Tea Party to either form a new party or join a third party.
That is certainly not the preferred option but at this point we have no choice. We have to get the Republicans elected this fall. But if John Boehner and Mitch McConnell try their usual tricks and if Mitt Romney decides he wants to be merely Obama-lite, we an America will have no choice.
Much like the British in 1940 and 1941, we have seen defeat after defeat in our battle with evil. The British had Churchill to lead them in their darkest hour. We need our Churchill to step forward and lead us on to victory.
We need our Churchill who understands freedom and liberty and is willing to stand and fight for those values and not just surrender to the desire for political power.

Permalink Reply by Barbara Ott on July 3, 2012 at 7:43am We need strong Conservatives like Newt, Bolton, Palin, to lead the Republicans through this mess. Romney would be wise to turn to them to rebuild the Republican platform.
Permalink Reply by Thomas Clancy on July 3, 2012 at 7:59am Excellent recommendation, Barbara! Romney could do this through selecting a conservative VP who is a conduit for those ideas.
Nice thought, Barbara.
But we see no desire on the part of Romney or the RNC to support conservatives in any way do we?
Permalink Reply by Charles H. Sims on July 3, 2012 at 10:20am Is it hopeless?
Of course not, Charles! But we'll not get it all done this election cycle. The RNC won't change their path so easily....Aim a bit high, and hope for the best...

Permalink Reply by Len Engquist on July 3, 2012 at 10:18am Newt is NOT a strong conservative. How could a strong conservative opine that the Department of State employees should be increased by 50%?

Permalink Reply by Bruce Wakefield on July 3, 2012 at 7:43am The very thought of "courage" to do something right for our country will surely bring tears to Boehner's eyes
Permalink Reply by Damon Schneider on July 3, 2012 at 7:48am OBAMACARE IS NOT A LEGAL TAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the rest of what you say, I AGREE BUT don't call this a LEGAL Tax for ITS NOT!!!!!
The Constitution is quite clear; Congress has the power to tax. It can lay direct taxes which must be levied upon the states in proportion to their population as determined by the most recent census and it can lay indirect taxes which must be uniform throughout the states (such as the excise taxes on tobacco and alcohol products). Nowhere in the Constitution does it allow for a capitation or tax directly on the heads of the people. The SCOTUS justified its healthcare ruling on the taxing authority of the congress but the healthcare bill requires a direct fine (tax) on any individual that does not obtain healthcare insurance. That is a non-authorized direct capitation tax and is blatantly unconstitutional. Are we really going to stand (roll over) for this?????????
Permalink Reply by david chaney on July 9, 2012 at 12:34pm I would like to see legislation or a Constitution Amendment making it illegal for the Government to mandate purchases or pay taxes. Something simple that even John Roberts can understand. Waiting until after the election is too late. We trusted the Republicans in 2000 and got burned. Unfortunately, many of those who created the legislation in Congress and the Senate back then are still around. Remember, Bush didn't veto anything until 2006.
With Global deflation setting in, Consumer debt at low levels, and World Governments saturated with debt, I see a situation where the Ruling Elites (Globalists) will start mandating purchases while making credit available to consumers to perpetuate a Global economic system that is self-destructing. I don't see the point in the Government or myself going into debt and buying stuff I don't need in order to support a Globalist agenda that's not working. Once the Globalists charge up the National Credit Card, they want to charge up our Credit Cards. It gets back to that definition of Insanity.

We need to "withdraw from any foreign committments" except our Alliances with Great Britain and Israel. Until such time as we have no inflation and the "Power of the Dollar" returns......No immigrants, no foreign aid, focus on "Free Market within the Continential United States", and repeal the 16th Amendment and let the 50 States (per capita) "Reconcile The Federal Budget for Federal enumerated Powers...Only. The 50 Sates will decide how to "appropriate their share of Federal Taxes" each year.
