The old guard has got to go, or November, 2012 will be a disaster.
The old guard gave us wonders like John McCain and Bob Dole, almost without asking for a show of hands to see if anyone else was interested in the job. GW Bush was no great prize either.
Between watching McCain flail his arms, Bob Dole fall off the stage and talk about himself in the third person, and cringing every time Bush tried to make use of the English language, I wondered if maybe the GOP was actually run by the Democrats.
What will replace the old guard? We will! Conservancy in its purest forms will replace this watered-down, moderate, mish-mash that allows middle-of-the-road people like Mitt Romney can be nominated.
How can we do this?
Actually, I think we ARE doing this with greater success than we think we are. Maybe the better question should be...
How long will this take?
American politics moves in extremely slow motion in phases that require four years to complete. Make no mistake, the movement has begun. If not in this election, then certainly by 2016 the Tea Party will either have a true conservative in the White House, or we will be an emerging third party and the GOP will be rendered impotent like several other parties in the nation's history.
The old guard should read that last statement very carefully. This is not something new. They can and will be replaced by leaders like Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum that are willing to do the will of the people before their own.
We are not going away! We are only gaining momentum. Just on this site, for example, in the last two months I have watched our numbers grow. The level of activity on these blogs has sometimes had our service provider's file server computers smoking. We're growing! And, with nearly every new member here, the GOP likely loses one.
Sooner or later, even the stodgy, old goats that currently make the decisions behind the scenes in the GOP must take notice. Already we have had significant and undeniable impact in the Congress with the budget debates. And, even if we do not succeed in electing a Tea Party candidate, then there is the hope for a Tea Party-led Congress that must stand against Barack Obama or Mitt Romney. If that happens, then sobeit!
It appears that the media and the GOP are about to push Mitt romney to the forefront. Romney who brought us such brilliant bits of statesmanship like not caring about the poor man, refusing for reveal is finances, being glad to be able to fire people, and stashing his cash, and who cannot take Obama to task on ObamaCare, will be made to look like a fool by the Teleprompter-in-Chief.
Imagine that, being bested by a man whose best effort is to read what others tell him to read...
Mitt Romney...simply the latest in the long line of GOP failures!

Good point,worth contemplating.
Very good article and helps me realize I'm not alone in what I am seeing. I'm sick of having these idiots tell us who will be the next President and I'm praying we stop the madness soon. You speak about the old guard but I know we are all in the upper half of our lives and if we don't make this change for our kids and grandkids they may not be able to. I still think NEWT can win this thing but we have to start showing up at these events and make some noise.... God help us all if we get stuck with Romney (Obama Jr.)..

I agree with your analysis, but I think we can be more proactive than just allowing conservatism to take a natural slow course. (Side note: assuming the unlikely event that Romney won the presidency are you proposing to primary him in 2016?)
It is about educating the masses. In Florida, Newt got the Majority of Conservative voters and, I imagine, Santorum got the bulk of what was left. Unfortunately the conservatives were overwhelmed by the larger population of uninformed mushy moderates. Our conservative "base" has educated themselves to ignore attack ads. That is what we need for the rest of the "masses". An educated electorate is a conservative electorate.
How to educate? Use the Establishment Republicans to our advantage. Every single Republican (house, senate, state, local) should be primaried with a Tea Party candidate! Strategically, it doesn't matter if the Tea Party candidate wins or not. We will have forced the establishment candidate to the right and to speak our language and in doing so educate the local electorate. The talent of an establishment politician is to talk sincerely on things of which they are not (i.e. Romney, PBO). Let's use that. If the establishment RINO candidate wins, the now educated local electorate will more likely hold the establishment candidate accountable and throw them out next time.
Second I would suggest a Tea Party legislative fund -- We need a fund to communicate and promote Tea Party legislation to the nation. Where would the Ryan Plan, the Tea Party movement, and Obama's "do-nothing-congress' campaign be had we nationally promoted (TV, Newspaper, internet) the Ryan Plan? That would have been the best education (and advertisement) of the mass electorate on conservative values and the Tea Party. (http://www.teapartynation.com/profiles/blogs/the-ryan-plan-newt-was...) This also would be better for our congressional tea party representatives than campaign donations every 2 years . If the local electorate associate good legislation with their Tea Party Representative or Senator, then that Tea Party Rep/Senator will be rewarded with re-election and need less campaign funds. (Our involvement shouldn't end with the closing of the election polls in November, we should support Tea Party reps & senators for good legislation all the time. We should not abandon them after the polls close.)
I think it is time for a guerrilla-style, "hostile" take over of the Republican Party via electorate education and Tea Party Primary candidates. No matter who we get (Obama, Romney or even Newt) we need to take responsibility for our country's future and make sure we (the Tea Party) take more control of the Congress. Let's give a little "pay-back" to the Republican Establishment and "relieve them of their chairmanships".
[If we lived in a fantasy world where we knew Tea Party Reps would take major control of the House & The Senate, effectively isolating Obama in an impotent box, if not impeach him. It would be nice to crush the Republican Party by having Gary Johnson come in 2nd ahead of Romney (if Romney does get the nomination). I wonder, can we ever really take on liberalism, before eliminating our own cancers (the traitorous, mushy moderate establishment Republicans)? --- look to your own house first??]
Permalink Reply by Jeff Waller on February 3, 2012 at 10:25am I agree! And, that's why we have to be willing to sacrifice a little of our time once in a while to call our congressmen, send emails, write blogs, and tell your friends that the old way is history.
Permalink Reply by richard handwerk on February 3, 2012 at 7:26am 4 more years of obama and no conservative will ever occupy the white house again.
my thoughts about the gop. they have to adopt a strategy of 'the ends justify the means'.
they are so principled that a percentage of voters will not vote unless the candidate meats a very stringent criteria.
lie, cheat, steal. just get someone in. they do what ever they hell you want to. the dems are more media savy. great at manipulation, and will sink to whatever level to achieve their goal. this is how the right has to be. the outcome of this election is too important. tho, i fear it is too late for 2012. romney's quote about the poor, taken out of context is already growing wings.

Permalink Reply by chumforsome on February 3, 2012 at 7:52am By its very nature, the TP has repeatedly shown that it can achieve amazing things. If that is true, (and I believe it is), why do we accept this RNC dogma that Romney cannot successfully be denied the nomination? Is there no way to hold the RNC accountable, correct the results in Iowa, and appropriate the delegates proportionally in Florida? The IA/FL results clearly conflict with the RNC's own primary rules. These results and Obama's daily Constitution violations--he clearly knows the Constitution, so ignorance cannot be used as an excuse--lead me to think that now is an excellent time to tell the Rino's to **** Off. We already know the RNC's reaction, and the MSM's support. Time's a wastin', folks.
Permalink Reply by Maureen Taylor on February 3, 2012 at 8:12am I am afraid that the "manchurian candidate" Romney is not what he seems. He can't be so perfect, no one is. There has not been any scandals, real scandals, but just wait after we have nominated him, the Obama machine will show us what we missed. I would rather have Newt with all of his piccadillos any day of the week. I voted for Newt and I am proud of it.

I agree with Romney being a "Manchurian candidate".
Just like Obama at his core is the anti-American Manchurian candidate. Romney at his core is the pro-liberal Manchurian candidate. A liberal that was stuck into the Republican party just to do what he is doing, pulling America farther to the left. No matter if we get stuck with Romney or Obama; we will have a liberal in the WH.
