The old guard has got to go, or November, 2012 will be a disaster.
The old guard gave us wonders like John McCain and Bob Dole, almost without asking for a show of hands to see if anyone else was interested in the job. GW Bush was no great prize either.
Between watching McCain flail his arms, Bob Dole fall off the stage and talk about himself in the third person, and cringing every time Bush tried to make use of the English language, I wondered if maybe the GOP was actually run by the Democrats.
What will replace the old guard? We will! Conservancy in its purest forms will replace this watered-down, moderate, mish-mash that allows middle-of-the-road people like Mitt Romney can be nominated.
How can we do this?
Actually, I think we ARE doing this with greater success than we think we are. Maybe the better question should be...
How long will this take?
American politics moves in extremely slow motion in phases that require four years to complete. Make no mistake, the movement has begun. If not in this election, then certainly by 2016 the Tea Party will either have a true conservative in the White House, or we will be an emerging third party and the GOP will be rendered impotent like several other parties in the nation's history.
The old guard should read that last statement very carefully. This is not something new. They can and will be replaced by leaders like Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum that are willing to do the will of the people before their own.
We are not going away! We are only gaining momentum. Just on this site, for example, in the last two months I have watched our numbers grow. The level of activity on these blogs has sometimes had our service provider's file server computers smoking. We're growing! And, with nearly every new member here, the GOP likely loses one.
Sooner or later, even the stodgy, old goats that currently make the decisions behind the scenes in the GOP must take notice. Already we have had significant and undeniable impact in the Congress with the budget debates. And, even if we do not succeed in electing a Tea Party candidate, then there is the hope for a Tea Party-led Congress that must stand against Barack Obama or Mitt Romney. If that happens, then sobeit!
It appears that the media and the GOP are about to push Mitt romney to the forefront. Romney who brought us such brilliant bits of statesmanship like not caring about the poor man, refusing for reveal is finances, being glad to be able to fire people, and stashing his cash, and who cannot take Obama to task on ObamaCare, will be made to look like a fool by the Teleprompter-in-Chief.
Imagine that, being bested by a man whose best effort is to read what others tell him to read...
Mitt Romney...simply the latest in the long line of GOP failures!

Edward, would you settle for an "anti-socialist"? I found this sentence only moments ago:
At the White House signing of the 1996 Republican welfare reform bill (officially titled the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996), Professors Cloward and Piven stood side-by-side with President Clinton, who reluctantly agreed to sign only because he didn't have the votes to defeat it.

Do you recall who was Speaker of the House in 1996? That's right, Newt Gingrich. The welfare reform bill was his baby - he mustered support for it and veritably forced Bill Clinton to sign it against his will.
Four years of balanced budgets, tax cuts leading to the creation of 11 million jobs ... WHAT ELSE HAS THE GUY GOT TO DO TO CONVINCE YOU HE'S A CONSERVATIVE?!
Well done Carol.
Permalink Reply by Mary Sewing on February 3, 2012 at 10:12pm You are right Carole! Too many people are being swayed by the left wing media. Why do we listen to the nay sayers, start thinking for ourselves. They knock Newt because they are deathly afraid that he will run against Obama and mop the floor with Obama's teleprompter. Rise up people and show the elites that they are not in control anymore............we have come to vote in OUR choice, not theirs. I will not wait until 2016...........I will not vote for Romney......................I will not hold my nose ever again. Onward Christian soldiers..........Onward Tea Party Patriots!

Is it my fault that Uncle Ronnie is dead? I truly would rather
get to vote for him again...but since I can't...etc....etc.

Well Said!
Permalink Reply by Cold Warrior on February 2, 2012 at 8:46pm The BEST way to change the so-callled "old guard" is to . . . change them. The Republican Party has about 400,000 precinct committeeman slots across the country. Only about half of them are filled. These local positions are open to any registered Republicans. If tea partiers want to change the elected leadership of the Republican Party all they have to do is fill up these vacant PC positions. Currently, there's a split in the Party -- about half of the filled slots are conservative, the other half moderate. Do the math. If you fill up all the vacancies with conservatives, that 50-50 split goes to 75-25 in favor of conservatives. The conservative majority would then, in each successive internal party election, elect more conservatives at the local, county, state and RNC levels.
UNITE and ORGANIZE inside the Republican Party itself. This is basic American civics, folks. We haven't been engaged in it for generations. We have ourselves to blame. I'm guilty as charged. I didn't get involved until 2007.

I'd like to know how many of the 45,000 or so TPN members are precinct committeemen. Anyone?

American first, conservative second, Republican precinct committeeman BY NECESSITY!
Permalink Reply by Edmund Goodwin on February 2, 2012 at 9:23pm I'm about to chair my first Caucus as a Precinct Committee Officer. Somebody has to do it. If that distasteful little chore is the price for my (our) liberty and freedom, it is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP!!
And we should all (I mean every one of us) write an email to the National GOP warning them that we will not tolerate any more big gov't liberal nonsense from them. They are already scared s***less of us, and are trying hard to get rid of us (except for just only one single day every couple or four years...voting day!). They should either get on board for real (not politician's lies) or we will choose one of two options:
(1) Make the GOP irrelevant, like Obama has made Congress;
or
(2) Take them over from the inside, just like the commies took over the Democraps!
Permalink Reply by Richard E. Nygaard on February 2, 2012 at 9:41pm Been there, done that and even though both the wife and I were elected (no one else ran for the same seats), the really right wing conservatives out conserved both of us. I wrote counters to every democratic letter in the local papers, drew praise from the local party heads, but a few behind the scenes that some considered the money brokers would only recognize folks they chose that would follow their dictates. Power corrupts and in some cases, even a little power corrupts a lot. I did serve and did make a difference but even with some really strong candidates for Congress (Former Naval Aviator and FBI agent) the left coast democrats out spent and outvoted us on a statewide basis. Our county was the most conservative and one of the strongest Republican counties in the state. Still could not get it together and today it is no better. They returned one of the leftist leaning Democrats back to the Senate and one of the leftist leaning representatives to the House. Sad, but becoming a precinct committeeman does not always work. I am not saying we should not do it, I am saying I have about had it with trying to make that kind of difference....And now, when I live in a different part of the country, I find that once again, I have chosen to move into a largely conservative area where a few Republicans seem to be in control and unwilling to share the ideas and responsibilities needed to consistently win elections.
Do not get me wrong, I never quit, I never give up and if the fight is worth it I will be in the forefront as good Marines always are. But we need to overwhelm the old guard and I am not at all certain that the statistics will allow it. By the way, just so everyone knows, we do not have until 2016 to have a President who is conservative. We need to elect one now. I for one think that we have some good candidates any one of whom could not only beat Obama but any other Democrat they can field (in case Obama gets certified as a candidate given what is happening in Georgia as we speak.). Again we can never find the perfect candidate. So lets get behind what we do have (anyone but Romney) and get on with the program. Write some letters to your favorite if he is still running and let him know what you think it will take to win. It may strike a good note and your thoughts may be adopted. I have done that and I believe it works. Only lets stop the divisive bickering amongst ourselves. Remember, there are still 46 states to go and Romney even though some think he is going to win will just not be the nominee if we get behind and support one of the other two. At this juncture, I favor Newton only because I know him, his works and I know that for all his past pimples, he has taken steps to overcome them by changing his life around. And he is by far the most intelligent of any of the candidates we have had in either party for the last three years at least... Semper Fi.
