The sound you kept hearing last night was the continuous face palm.  You know, people slapping their foreheads after seeing something so unbelievably stupid.

What was going on last night that made it the night of the living face palm?

It was the ABC/Yahoo Republican debate.

No, it was not the Republican candidates, not even Ron Paul that made people slap their foreheads out of sheer disbelief.  It was the Republican Party.

Can someone please explain why in the hell the Republican Party agrees to these debates?

The debates are great.  There is nothing wrong with debates.  Why did the GOP agree to debates where the moderators are flat out liberals?   The hosts were notoriously left wing Diane Sawyer and former Clinton Press Secretary and operative George Stephanopoulos.

The moderators were obviously not only going after Gingrich but were trying to make Romney look good.  There were no big surprises.  The moderators wanted to make Gingrich have a meltdown and that was not going to happen.

The question with all of these debates is why the GOP lets liberal groups set the rules and had liberal journalists to ask the questions.

Earth to the RNC.  These liberals are not our friends.  Does anyone doubt that Stephanopoulos and Sawyer want to see a second Obama term?  Does anyone doubt they want to see the weakest and most liberal Republican running as the nominee?

These debates have been a gold mine not only for the GOP but for the channels that have broadcast it.    The GOP does not simply have to walk up and take what ever deal is offered.

Why doesn’t the GOP have a debate where the moderators are Joseph Farah from WND and Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Tom Tancredo?

We have had GOP debates with exclusively liberal hosts and others with some liberal and a couple of at least centrist hosts.  The GOP is allegedly the party of conservatives, so why isn’t the GOP demanding that it have a veto on the network choice of hosts?

There were a lot of questions that should have been asked last night but they were not going to come from liberal hosts.

One of the questions I would like to have heard was the GOP candidates talking about the Fast and Furious scandal and Attorney General Eric Holder committing perjury in front of a Congressional Committee.   I would like to have heard a question about the growing scandal that is the follow up to Fast and Furious where the Department of Justice was laundering money for Mexican drug cartels.

How about a few questions about John Corzine and the collapse of MF Global?  When Enron collapsed, the left tried to paint Enron as being a corporation that was in bed with the Republican Party.  There is silence on MF Global.  I would like to have heard what the GOP candidates have to say about that.

How about some questions about defense?   Our navy is now smaller than it was during World War I.   The army and the air force are being reduced to levels that will make a serious national defense almost impossible.  Why not some questions about that?

The answer is all the GOP wanted to do was give us a night of non-stop face palms.

When is the GOP going to get serious?  When is the GOP going to realize they do not have to appease these liberal journalists?

When is the GOP going to act like it wants to win an election?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmennnnnnnnn!!!!!!

I watched the debate as I have all of them so far and Newt is surging for a reason. True Conservative Republicans as myself, cannot find it within ourselves to vote for Romney. I will support Gingrich, Perry or Santorum, the rest I do not feel have a chance against OBAMA. I do admire all of the candidates and their views on failen policy and the current administration, but only a few are giving a new outlook on the years to come and have a real plan. You heard it last night, Romney never had tough times in his lifetime. Money was never an issue and the $10,000 bet with Perry, did him in last night. I feel his possibility now is very slim of taking control in Iowa. Possibly a win in NH, where he is liked, but not a chance in either SC or FL I am betting. Sorry, I cannot bet $10,000, possibly $10.

I just did a face palm myself. I would also have liked to know where each of the candidates stands on gun ownership, both Handguns and Long guns. Obama is after our guns so we can't break free of his mandates. That is against the Constitution, and So is Obama. I'm still praying that some people in power will understand that as a dual citizen, Obama was never qualified to be on the ballot, and if we have him disqualified, automatic repeal of Obamacare, and all other bills passed during the past 3 years will be nullified. He will not get a pension, and we might even be able to deny his pension. The other course must be to Impeach him as an imposter.

How about trying BH Obama on TREASON!

The dual citizen part of your reply is interesting. I don't think this has ever been formally addressed before. Hypothetically a dual citizen would have binding alligiances  to both countries. The founding fathers were all dual citizens in the fact that they were born British subjects. The Revolutionary War was fought when Royalists outnumbered Separatists two to one, which is about the same ratio as where Liberals and Conservatives stand today thanks mainly to forty odd years of  Liberal indoctrination in the public school system. Many of the Royalists fled to Canada or  the UK after the Revolutionary War ended with a Separatist victory. This dual citizen concept would also apply to the offspring of those illegally in this country. If those offspring of illegal Mexicans returned to Mexico they could be drafted ito the Mexican Army and obligated to fight against the U.S. if we had a war with Mexico!  Perhaps if Obama were to return to Kenya he could be drafted into the Kenyan army and be put in the same situation if we were to go to war with Kenya! Something to think about when one has no more important things to deal with.

I've not watched a single debate...no tv.  I quit watching NBC over 20 years ago when they had Peter Arnett in Baghdad giving aid and comfort to our enemy while our bombs were dropping.  I protested, a whole lot of good that did.  Mr. Phillips, your point is well taken.  We need a plan for taking this country back before freedom is lost from the world.  The GOP national leadership are not our friends.  This point should be obvious to all by now.

agree..  where are the questions on the Solyndra loan being written in such a way that the investors were put ahead of tax payers?   How about the simple fact that Fast Furious/Gun Runner was funded in the Obama Stimulus?   How about 2B to Brazil so they can drill for oil..  but at home we stop a pipeline or stop off shore drilling.  How about Gun Runner being used as a tool so the Obama administration could tighten gun laws on US Citizens.

It's all ridiculous..

Newt continues to be reasonable and the adult.  I just finished his book, rediscovering god in America..   Exellent.  I'm in his camp..   I'm starting his book on the Civil War over the holidays.

I agree.. allow inner city kids to work.. or you can just let them run the streets.  Growing up on a farm..   I cannot remember a day I didn't work. It gave me the work ethic I have now.  I saw a great bumper sticker for Obama..    "Instead of spreading my wealth around, spread my work ethic"

I agree. This was a discrase. The candidates fell into the trap and started fighting with each other. I was hoping Newt would have called out the moderators like he did at the other debates.

Gov. Perry called out the "media" (at 1:06:02) and it was a home run. Finally! I suspect Newt is backing off the media attacks as it is likely they have some guns loaded waiting on it.

I think it's some sort of "little brother" syndrome. We don't have any Conservative NETWORKS and that (like it or not) is STILL where the money/prestige flows. I had hopes that one day the Fox Network would jump into morning programing with the likes of good morning america, et al, as well as the evening news with the likes of O'reilly and other Conservative/Independents, but...

It appalls me to see nothing but top-notch commercials on all of the network shows and then to see things like Max My Speed and other cheap "infomercials" on FNN. I understand that FNN reaches a smaller market and that is EXACTLY my point. The Fox network programming ranks right up there with nbc, abc, and cbs, so why not launch news and morning shows to compete? Sadly, there are untold millions who only know of the FNN personalities through the jaded prism of the diane sawyers and harry smith's of the world!

Anyway, I'm sick of sitting on the back of the bus as regards these debates. No way in HELL would a dumbocrap debate be hosted by anyone resembling a Conservative. It's something of a miracle that we are still managing to hold our on with the deck so obviously stacked against us. It grieves me to say that as time presses on and more "skulls full of mush" are indoctrinated into the convoluted liberal ideology, coupled with the influx of illegals who, should they get the vote, will almost certainly vote dem, our country will likely reach the point of no return.

Lets let Mark Levine have a crack at moderating a debate.

Mark Levin would be an awesome moderator along side Limbaugh. How about Charles Krauthammer? Although having the Left try to put them all on the spot and having them not fall into the trap would also be a slam towards their views.
