The Tea Party is only two years old, but it is testament to the strength of this movement that all of the Conservative Candidates want to associate with the Tea Party. John Boehner today said there is no daylight between him and the Tea Party. Another Presidential candidate has embraced the Tea Party. Who is it?
Donald Trump.
Trump appeared on the Today show this morning and announced, “I’m with the Tea Party.” Trump recognizes the problems and says he wants to stop “the killer spending.” He has gone after Obama on the eligibility issue in a manner that makes a RINO squeal in terror. He also commented that if he were President, he would take Iraq’s oil, since we won the war. Didn’t Iraq say something several years ago about using oil proceeds to reimburse the United States for the liberation of Iraq?
Trump’s Tea Party support appears to be solidifying. In a recent poll Trump scored 20% among Tea Party members. Conservative voters also support Trump above all others. Trump is certainly saying a lot of the right things. Unlike liberals and even a lot of Republicans, Trump has a simple idea of foreign policy. We take care of ourselves first.
Trump is doing the right thing, but he does have some problems. Recently, a note was made public that he sent to Nancy Pelosi in 2007, congratulating her, saying, “You are the best.” He also gave major contributions to Rahm Emmanuel and other liberal candidates. Those are questions that need to be addressed.
Another huge question that has to be asked of Trump is how he feels about taxes. He clearly realizes the problems unrestrained spending cause. But, does he understand that raising taxes will damage the economy, while cutting taxes will stimulate the economy to grow our way out of this problem?
If Trump were to be elected, there would certainly be pressure on him to raise taxes by the left. Republicans have a suicidal bent where they seem anxious to do the one thing that will cost them the election. Remember George H.W. Bush’s no new taxes pledge and what he did with that?
Trump cannot declare his candidacy until June. His show is on TV and he cannot have it on and be a declared candidate. That still gives him a lot of time to work the crowds unofficially.
We have some really great candidates that are positioning themselves to run in 2012. There are also some really terrible candidates, such as Mitt Romney. We must absolutely prevent a RINO from being the nominee.
If Trump really believes what he says, he is bringing a refreshing change to the political process. He is certainly not afraid to get out and say things that most of the other candidates cower in fear just thinking about.
Even if this is just another flirtation with running for the Donald, he is still doing a service to the country be raising some of these issues and explicitly identifying himself with the Tea Party movement.

Permalink Reply by Lynn Warren on April 8, 2011 at 10:37am I have told several friends (and anyone else who will listen) that; if the Republican Party doesn't select two outstanding candidates who have the public trust to run in 2012 there will be little future hope for America. Trump, to me, is an unknown. A blind roll-of-the-dice with America's future is beyond reason. Romney (again my fear) smacks of old politics, compromise and back-room deals with greed and selective gain being the primary objective - such is what has brought us to our plight today. We have some potential candidates who have background experience that reflect what America needs. Let us hope the party has enough sense and the "guts" to bring them forward! Methods / practices to improve energy problems are readily available that are much more sensible and have much less financial impact on marginal income families than those the current administration are pushing. I can think of several methods that could be used to positively involve Americans and help us all feel good about what we are doing rather than having to worry about whether we are going to pay for heating, cooling and gas or send our daughters to college!

Oh here is one that is coming in this summer. His commission in Afghanistan is up and he is a solid conservative.

It would be fun to see Obama debate Trump on the economy. Let's see a guy who possibly didn't even run a lemonade stand vs. The Donald.
The Political Class will hate this guy before it is all said and done.

Buzz kill. Deal killer.
Was he just feeding the alligators hoping that they would eat him last? Don't need another RINO or even a semi-RINO. Gingrich carries the same baggage.
