It has been a month since 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in Florida. The man who killed him, George Zimmerman has claimed self-defense. The professional race hucksters are out beating the drum on this case and proving once again, the most dangers spot in America is the space between them and a TV camera. Justice is working in the case but something else, more important is going on.
What is it?
It is another example of the left trying to attack the right of a citizen to defend himself.
Wrapped up in this controversy about the homicide of Trayvon Martin is the issue of Florida’s “stand your ground” law.
The left does not like that law, which may be reason in and of itself to like the law. But there is more to it.
Liberals have a problem with Americans being able to help themselves. It does not matter whether it is self-defense or even preparations for a disaster. The left always wants us to be dependent on the government and in the case of Hurricane Katrina; we saw how well that worked out.
The left does not like it that Americans can be armed. Real Americans like that. I for one find it comforting to think that if someone breaks into a house with people in it, the last sound the burglar could hear is the sound of a shotgun being jacked before the homeowner sends him a very clear and permanent message.
The “stand your ground” law is a rule that relates to what is known as the duty to retreat. Under American law, you are allowed to use force to defend yourself or someone else. You may use deadly force if you reasonably believe deadly force is about to be used on you. A majority of American states have some variation of the “stand your ground” law. The minority of states say that before you can use deadly force, you must try to retreat if possible. That is a really dumb law, since among other things you cannot outrun a bullet. All it does is force people who legitimately defend themselves to face criminal prosecution for not retreating first.
All the “stand your ground” law does is say there is no duty to retreat.
The left has a famous saying, “never let a crisis go to waste.” We are seeing that in the Trayvon Martin homicide. The “stand your ground law,” which the liberals are attacking actually has nothing to do with this case. There is another law that says in a case, if you are the initial aggressor, you cannot claim self-defense. According to the media reports, Zimmerman followed Martin and made contact with him, even after the 911 operator told him not to follow Martin. A digitally enhanced copy of the 911 recording made by CNN allegedly has Zimmerman making what sounds like a racial remark right before the shooting. If proven, that could go a long way towards proving premeditation in a murder case. Again, the “stand your ground” law has nothing to do with this case.
The left has an obsession with making citizens vulnerable. From asinine gun control laws to bad ideas such as the duty to retreat, they have one goal. They want to make people totally dependent on the government.
Last year, we saw the ultimate results of that policy in Britain. Britain has long ago banned guns. So last year when riots flared out of control and Britain’s police could not handle them, citizens were left defenseless. British citizens were so desperate to protect themselves, sales of American baseball bats rose by a staggering 6000%.
Obviously the British do not understand the words of a wise man of the American west that said, “God made all men. General Colt made them all equal.”
As for the Trayvon Martin homicide case, contrary to the hysterical howling of the race hucksters, justice is coming. The night of the shooting, the only thing the police had as the claim by Zimmerman that he had shot in self-defense. I realize the Constitution means nothing to liberals, but in order for the police to arrest Zimmerman that night, they would have had to have probable cause. That was something they did not have.
So the cops did what they are supposed to do. They investigated.
Now, a special prosecutor has been appointed and the matter will be presented to a grand jury on April 10th.
Unlike the hucksters who have been rushing to the nearest available camera, I’ve been a prosecutor. I spent ten years of my legal career trying cases for the State and putting criminals in jail. Unlike people such as Al Sharpton, I’ve tried murder cases.
Any lawyer who has tried more than two or three cases in the criminal justice system has come across the “rush to judgment” defense. Johnnie Cochran made it famous in the OJ Simpson case. The rush to judgment defense is simply that the cops were under pressure to solve the case and did it quickly.
When law enforcement is pressured to move on a case when it is not ready, you get a successful rush to judgment defense. In Florida, it looks like law enforcement is going about this the right way and having their ducks in a row before presenting the case.
Of course the hucksters don’t really care whether law enforcement gets it right. All they are interested in is their five minutes in front of the camera.
All the left is interested in is trying to further destroy the rights of Americans to defend themselves.

No it is a constitutional matter. "shall not be infringed" is pretty plain. It is just that the left does not hold an respect for the Constitution.
Permalink Reply by Lauryn Halli on March 23, 2012 at 2:01pm Just like everyone on "the right" cannot be lumped together, neither can everyone on "the left." There is no need for overbroad statements in any discussion.
Yet I do want people with unstable mental health issues to be kept from purchasing weapons until their treating sources have reason to believe they are stabilized. Would you consider this infringing? I would consider this appropriate, even if it "infringes" in some way. However, this, also, has no relation to the issue in this article.
Permalink Reply by Thomas Angle on March 23, 2012 at 2:07pm From the 1828 Webster Dictionary:
Infringe: To destroy or hinder; as, to infringe efficacy.
Yes it does relate, because the left if using this as something to push an unconstitutional agenda. That is what Judson has been saying and you want to argue something else.
Oh, I do believe that the Constitution is the law. and the law that they the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I'll stand by it and be morally vindicated. Those that choose to break the law, well, I guess they can feel however they want.

Crime up three fold or more in a couple of years.
Criminals do not give up guns.
Citizens who give up guns are slaves.
At least a citizen with a gun can die free if required.
Happen here too if the "Gument" and Leftys has their way.
Permalink Reply by John Bellaire on March 23, 2012 at 2:22pm Any homicide is unfortunate, especially for the deceased, but the media is already convicting Zimmerman before any trial and also imply that he is a racist as a reason for the killing. The defendant may not be the brightest light in the house, and most likely he could have been over zealous in his duty as a neighborhood watchman. I just have some questions about the case instead of following along with the hysteria. The only facts that are actually believable in the news are that Zimmerman happened to be white and martin happened to be black. That makes it automatically a racial incident by the media. I am curious why a neighborhood needs a watchman if there is no crime in the area, and why was Zimmerman carrying a gun when his duty was to report criminal behavior and not to confront a possible criminal. Was the neighborhood that bad? I do not know the law in Florida, but in many states a person is considered an adult at age 17, and how was Zimmerman to know Martin's age in the dark anyhow. Zimmerman had a reason for being on the street at a late hour, but what was Martin's excuse? There is no actual evidence, at least what the news has presented, to show exactly what Martin was doing or how he was acting at the time of the shooting, and if he was in school, why was he walking the streets at such a late hour? Perhaps Martin was not being the nice innocent little boy that the media makes him out to be. At any rate, the investigation by the police apparently leaves much to be desired, and as such it was not fair to the victim nor the defendant. Now the story has the attention of the national media fueled by the left wing nazis and communists who would disarm every citizen except themselves. I hope an unbiased investigation will reveal the truth and nobody jumps to conclusions in the case.
