Early next year, we will mark the third anniversary of the Tea Party movement. It is hard to believe that three years ago, this movement did not exist.
While it is good to look back and remember, it is more important to look ahead.
What does the future hold?
Shortly after the Christmas holidays, we will have the Iowa caucuses and then the New Hampshire primaries.
As we head into the New Year, things are not looking great for the Tea Party. While no votes have been cast, the polling does not look good. A series of good conservative Tea Party candidates have gone up the polls and then down. We have had Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain and now Newt Gingrich. They have all surged to the top and with the exception of Gingrich have all fallen. Gingrich’s support is now falling.
The two leaders in the polls today are Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. For me, this is a scene out of a horror movie.
First we do have Ron Paul. Paul rants on like a crazy old man and many of us think that is exactly what he is. If there is one Republican who can guarantee a second Obama term, it is Paul. He has his cult of personality that surrounds him and that is it. His nutty views like there is nothing wrong with Iran having a nuke and 9/11 was our fault, generally scare the hell out of any sane voter.
Then there is Mitt Romney. Romney is a liberal. There is no other word to describe him. Mitt Romney has no core values other than Mitt Romney. He has no plan other than being President. He has only recently reached out to the Tea Party because until now he did not believe he needed us. The only real difference between Romney and Obama is Romney has better hair.
The Tea Party has a few days left to get a conservative back on top. Be it Gingrich, Perry or Bachmann, one of them has to rise to the top.
If we fail to do so, Mitt Romney will become the nominee and if that happens, the Tea Party will have failed.
In 2010, we swept the GOP into power in the House of Representatives. What was our thanks? Was Obamacare defunded? Was spending cut? Was government brought under control? The answer to each of those questions was a resounding no.
House Speaker John Boehner was too busy raising his freshly laundered white flag of surrender and giving Harry Reid and Barack Obama everything they wanted.
If the Republican Party will not run conservatives, then we need to look at alternatives. I have been a lifelong Republican but if Mitt Romney is the nominee, I will not vote for him.
Some people will shriek in horror that I am just helping Obama by not voting for Romney and saying this publically. Folks, there is no difference between Romney and Obama.
Romney has constantly proven himself to be a big government, liberal Republican.
Three years ago, history could have been different. If John McCain had won the Presidential election, about 80% of what the Obama regime has done would have gone through and yet because McCain would have been a Republican President, it would have been much harder to form opposition and the Tea Party might not have formed.
While many of us in this movement are Republicans, our loyalty is to the nation and the Constitution. It is not to a party and if the GOP is going to be a liberal party, we are going to have to find a conservative party.
If we cannot transform the GOP into a conservative party, then we need to leave it to the RINOs and let the GOP join the Whig Party in the dustbin of history.
Revo, I see that you continue to support Ron Paul. The same guy that thinks America caused the horrows of 9-11-2001. He is also a huge porker which is contrary to what he says. I also believe that he supports open borders and the rights of Americans not to defend themselves. How does that fit into your independent thinking?
Ron Paul...BAD BAD BAD....He is full of hate and anger. He has no idea how to be a leader. I am sorry but he doesn't have it in him. He needs to head up Finance why can't he just do that. WE NEED HIM THERE!! Not as a snapping turtle in the white house. He can't do any good for us there. BTW I WAS FOR RON PAUL...Then he spoke. He is the ONLY One to get Booed on stage, and it happens A LOT! Now why do you think that is? There are liberals (Mitt Romney) and then there is a newer party...called Ron Paul liberals. They are the ones that are going to get Obama Re-elected! Thank you all for that one!
Paul was booed because he's an ahole. Quit spamming Max.
Thank you for that observation, Max. Your rights to free speech shall not be denied.
i am ex military and i will not vote for ron paul or anyone who blames the usa or israel for 9-11. i agree with katie that ron is good for finance but he is a disaster for the national defense. the dollars from military is very vague. iran is the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world and ron shares obama's view of iran. i disagree with judson that obama and romney are the same as well. romney is an american for one. he also is not in bed with the muslim brotherhood and other radical elements. i also hate romney but i will vote for him if it is between romney and obama.
Joseph Butman, I still have my "nose clip" from voting for John McCain.
All of the Republican candidates at least love America and want her to succeed, unlike Odumbo, who hates the country and wants her brought to her knees. I say ABO!
You have expressed my settiments exactly. As I was reading Judson's article, my reaction is that Romney and Obama are definitely NOT the same. He supports the Muslims and has driven us down a very dangerous path. I don't believe Romney will do that. I hope our candidate is someone else but will vote for Romney if I have to.
Did anyone notice that Santorum wasn't mentioned as one of the alternatives.
The scary thing about supporting either Ron Paul or Michele Bachmann is that neither stand a chance in hell of winning over O'Traitor. I can't even imagine Ron Paul dealing with the Iran situation. How about North Korea? ...and as much as I like her, Michele Bachman will automatically lose 14% of the vote because she is TOO far RIGHT in regards to religion, gay rights, etc. The ONLY choice IS Newt Gingrich. He continues to run a positive, issue/solution campaign, and despite his "baggage", his amazing intellegence will assist him lomg-term. He's sliding some now, but will pick up momentum again, when lots of truths come about about Ron Paul. Expect media slander on that one.
I totally disagree, this is just unequivocally not true. Have you SEEN Obama's poll ratings for the last 6 months!?!? My dead grandmother should be able to beat him - EASILY!!! I strongly believe that ANY of the current candidates could beat Obama - including these 2! Good grief!
I think even Perry and Santorum (theoretically, both of whom I think should abdicate after Iowa when it becomes obvious) would have the most difficult time doing so, but still do-able, given full support and unity behind them of the Tea Party!
This kind of thinking is dangerous and frankly just plays right into the establishment GOP, who's very carefully orchestrated the progressive-progressive Romney-Gingrich front runner leads in order to achieve its OWN goals and maintain the progressive status quo within the GOP.
WE'RE BETTER THAN THAT! And we CAN, and SHOULD, focus our attention on the candidate or candidates who best align with OUR VALUES - NOT who is the "best debater" and NOT who the GOP tries to jam down our throats as the most "electable". What a bunch of nonsense! We PROVED that we can get ANYONE elected a year ago, in the November 2010 elections!
GROW SOME BACKBONE, FELLOW TEA PARTIERS!
Everyone counted Cain out. And, until the scandals broke he ran ahead of the pact. To count Bachmann out as unelectable is just as foolish. Say she gets the nomination and the republicans and independents rally around her--does she not have a chance to win? The key to ousting Obama is the stand firmly behind the nominee regardless of whether or not you like him. I am not a fan of any of the front runners, but I will hold my nose and vote for him/her. That is the only way to defeat Obama.
