The Fred Phelps Freak Show
The Fred Phelps freak show.
As the first funerals begin in Tucson today, the family, friends and people of Arizona were at least spared one further agony. The Fred Phelps freak show did not come into town.
The Fred Phelps freak show is also known as Westboro. There is more to the title, but I refuse to call them a Baptist Church because they are neither Baptist, nor are they a church. Baptists are some pretty nice people and I would not want them or churches associated with the Fred Phelps freak show in any way.
Tucson’s reprieve came about because two talk show hosts offered to give time to members of the freak show if they would not picket the funerals. Arizona rushed through emergency legislation to keep them at least 300 feet away from the funerals and Tea Party groups were mobilizing to create human barriers to save the families of the victims any further grief.
In all of the discussions about Fred Phelps, there are two facts that are left out. First,Phelps is a media whore. Second,he is a bully.
In the era of news where, “if it bleeds, it leads,” the Phelps freak show is tailor made for the evening news. With their outrageous signs and the raw emotions at these funerals, it is a tinderbox just waiting for a spark.
Fred Phelps would be quickly relegated to obscurity if the media just decided to collectively ignore him. He suddenly was in the news when the freak show sent out a press release saying they were coming to Tucson. If the media would ignore him, he would eventually slither back into the sewer from whence he came.
Phelps in the end is a bully. He picks on people at their lowest moments. He picks on people who will not fight back. That is the problem.
Most of us have stories of dealing with bullies when we were children. Here is mine. I was in the fifth grade, when a kid who was a little older and a lot bigger decided to pick on me. He pushed me around, then picked me up in a bear hug and slung me over his shoulder. I leaned over and bit him as hard as I could in his back. He screamed, and then dropped me. When he did, I turned around and hithim as hard as I could. I don’t know if I bloodied his nose, but I know this, he never bothered me again.
Over the last fifty years, this country has progressed in so many ways and most people would say we are clearly better now than we were fifty years ago. One way we are not is in our tolerance of bad behavior.
Fifty years ago, had Phelps tried something like this, he would be met by not only the police, but also the men of the community he was going to. The police would make sure things did not get out of hand and then politely look the other way while the men of the community educated Phelps on his bad manners.
When Phelps got out of the hospital, he would not do itagain.
We need to remember, Fred Phelps is nothing but a bully and someone needs to figure out the way to deliver the figurative bloody nose to him. Only then, will the Fred Phelps freak show fade away into long overdue obscurity.

Bullies only understand one language --- violence. Bloody their nose and they'll leave you alone. Being a Harley-riding man of many, many years all I can say about Rolling Thunder is -- God Bless them and I pray they continue to block this idiot and his freak show.

The Baptists kicked him out of the affiliation. Phelps has been at this since the 50s. He was also an atty., but was disbarred. He and his family have quite a history of disruption at gay and military funerals and attacks against various individuals. They have lost cases against them and still they don't stop. Nothing stops them from spewing their satanic hatred.

Interestingly this band of inbreds are actually lawyers... In Topeka there are several buildings on them with the Phelps name on them... and I have been told they are all related.
If foresters could ever clone the Phelps' genetic code, they'd make millions growing powerpoles that don't need to be trimmed... you see, there are no branches on the Phelps family tree.

Then you would be calling for the repeal of the 1st Amendment. I disagree with them, but it doesn't mean we have to write off our rights in the process.

You cut off the face to spite the anus. What good will come of the new law that Arizona's legislature just passed banning their presence within 300 feet of the service. How, first, do we determine the fixative point of the 300 feet. Is it the center of the grave, the outermost person attending, or some other arbitrarily point in between? One good bull horn can be heard anywhere in the stadium. Outlaw the bullhorn? Municipalities have perennially been over-ruled by Liberal judges on noise ordinances, and that is all the outlawing of the bullhorn would be—just another anti-noise ordinance. You cannot win this fight by playing their games. There is one way, however, to bring forth and put a definitive stop to them. Totally ignore them. But of course, in order to do that, they have to be deprived of exposure through the news media. A good idea, but we all know how slimy the mainstream media are and how they love to play up the sleaze and other fumettes wafting from Satan's rectum. So how? Totally boycott the media AND their advertisers. No matter what brand of whatever there is out there, there is one made by a company, usually a small one, that is just as good, if not better, and the people who make it are Christians . . . following the Christian way of life. Give them your business. It might cost a little bit more, but isn't the freedom of HONESTY worth it? You'll most likely get a better warranty too.
Stop watching! Stop buying! Have you got the GONADS to do it? Or is your own level of hedonistic, satanically inspired materialism in the way? This is where the true character of your own morals is defined.
When the GAP fails to sell fifty million pieces of "fashion" and only manages thirty million, they are going to suddenly wake up to the fact that they have lost 40% of their base, and even Liberal ajos understand that kind of protest. What does one vote count? At sixty or seventy bucks a shot for a pair of pre-ruined bluejeans, one hell of a lot. Big business being stuck in the ajo because of their fondling adulation of advertising through MSM is a very effective tool in bringing Big Business into line with the beliefs and morals of their constituency, i.e. patronage. What'll it do to all those Little Business Damnfools that support MSM corruption?
Of course the difficult part is getting to the Liberally brainwashed adolescent mind(s) (in a lot of eighteen to sixty year olds) that think it's cool to were pre-ruined bluejeans,and convince it/them that it is really nothing more than a display of mush-brained stupidity. It is also like the sheer stupidity of paying a long chain of leaches, starting with the manufacturers, passing down through the brokers, the distributors, and finally the retailers, big dollars to have the privilege of becoming one of their walking billboards, advertizing their brand of moral and mental condom that disenables one from the realization that one is both a slothfully thoughtless Damnfool and one who has just been multiply-screwed, by all of them, and by oneself.

NO one is calling for the repeal of the 1st Amerndment, we are calling for an end to harassment by false Christians. Harassment and unlawfull assembly are illegal and IMO Fred Phelps organization is doing this.. There is also something called decency and that is something that people should voluntarily show at funerals
FYI the first Amendment was put in place to protect those that speak out against the injustices of their government. Free speech does not permit you to go into a movie theater and cry "fire" nor does it permit one to defame anyones character or accuse anyone by making false claims. It also doesn't alow you to make false statements in a police report, nor does free speech permit you to lie in court.

In 2009, the Congressional Research Service released: http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/95-815.pdf
It says that child pornography is not protected by the first amendment and it says that obscenity is not protected, either.
From the document: "What is obscenity? It is not synonymous with pornography, as most pornography is not legally obscene; that is, most pornography is protected by the First Amendment."
