While I am probably one of the last persons Mitt Romney would sit down for a one on one with, it could happen.  If it did happen, I have a lot of questions I would like to ask him.  And I know what the first question would be.

That question would surprise a lot of people.

What is it?

The question would not be about taxation.  Nor would it be about the debt, the deficit or even spending.

My question would be this.  If you are elected President, what will you do to stop the use of drones here in America?  What are you going to do to stop the government from spying on American citizens?

George Orwell in 1984 wrote, “big brother is watching.”  He was off by less than 30 years.

Today, for the first time, military forces of the United States are being deployed in the borders of this nation to spy on our own citizens.   The government now uses drones routinely over American skies.  Not only is the Federal Government in the drone business but state and local governments are getting in the drone business too.

Recently the Air Force released a document that says if military drone operators see something interesting, they can apply to a military judge or their commander for permission to search private property.

Excuse me?  What the hell happened to the Constitution?

What the Air Force says it is doing is not passing along information to civilian law enforcement authorities.  They are going to investigate themselves!

This is absolutely insane.

While I am as big a supporter of the military as anyone, any military member who authorizes such a search of civilian property or any military member who carries out a search of civilian property should be immediately prosecuted.

There is no excuse for this.

The military exists to protect the nation from external threats.   They are not a law enforcement agency.  In fact, there are specific laws on the books that prohibit the military from doing just that.

There is at least one Congressman who gets it.

Congressman Jeff Landry added an amendment to the FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act that prohibits the use of evidence gathered by a drone in a criminal prosecution unless the government first obtained a warrant as the Constitution mandates.   Landry’s amendment also specifies that the 2012 NDAA does not prohibit the Writ of Habeas Corpus for anyone who is entitled to file such a writ.

While there are many things we need to be worried about, the cavalier use of drones and the wholesale disregard of the Constitutional protections afforded American citizens by the Obama Regime is startling.

Kudos to Jeff Landry for standing up for the Constitution.

Does Mitt Romney stand for the Constitution?

That is the first question I would like to ask him, if I ever got the chance.

And your favorite the King of Pork continues to top the list, Henry. Greatest increase for 2011!

Vern,

As a Tea Party Vice President and a Ron Paul supporter I can assure you Ron Paul supporters ARE conservative. They are also some of our most effective grass roots activists we have and are able to engage in a cogent discussion on the political issues of the day and our nations monetary and constitutional history.

Not the sort of people we should be marginalizing.

I responded directly to your "400+ congressman,....steal 15 Trillion dollars", pointing out that Ron Paul is the greatest single offender in Congress.

The links have been provided, ad-infinitum here, I am not your librarian. The old fart is a liberal, an anti-Semite and  much, much worse. I'm not at all sure who is worse, Ron Paul or Obama!

Vern, this is still America and we are still able to support whom ever we want to.  Until Obamney seals the deal at the convention, all bets are off.  So quit acting like a democrat and let people have their own opinions.  Your opinion isn't the only one that matters.

It is not an "opinion". Romney has the votes, the old guy has conceded.

Your choices are clear: Romney or the Democrat. Which of us is "acting like a democrat"?

BECAUSE: #1 At this point we don't have a choice. Anyone is better than BO.  #2 Romney is a LEGALLY vetted Candidate. BO is NOT!

Lots of Conservatives agree with you, including me, but they will get behind Rom! Wake up! Romney is our only hope now for the survival of this Country!

To Quote Yoda ... "No, there is Another."

In God's Hands rest the survival of this country. We The People have our role to play, but only by returning our nation to God, only by embracing His Laws, have we any Hope of survival.

Judson, I'm sorry, but as a Republican and in military intelligence, you can rest assure that the military will not be controlling these drones.  I would suspect that as we wind down with our wars we will send home hundreds of former well qualified UAV operators and intelligence professionals who were skilled in identifying terrorist hotspots.  With that said, these UAVs will be purchased from military contractors and will be under 100% control by civilian law enforcement (who will hire these professionals) and not the military.  Granted, the 4th amendment will fall in a big gray area, those who will operate these drones hold or held security clearances meaning they were the best in their professionalism and trust and respect for the rule of law, especially the Consitution.  These UAVs served a vital role in the monitoring of unruly crowds and emergency incidents in Iraq and Afghanistan and will save tax payers a lot of money doing the same.  Expect to see cuts in squad car patrols because these UAVs are very efficient.

The point is, they have no right to fly over and spy on people without probable cause. This is what they are doing and what they plan to do. This is not Iraq, Afghanistan or some other crap hole sand box. This is America and there are laws and they are breaking them.

Just a note, it has happened before. Not with drones, but the US military has operated equipment for the law enforcement for use against civilians.

How is this any different than a hot air balloon or a helicopter?  No one complains about them and you actually believe they're just lookin at traffic?  I've worked with law enforcement and don't worry, mom and pop lunch bucket are not on the list.  Only the bad guys.  Are you one of them?

If they are involved in any search that requires a warrant, then yes I do have a problem with it. Like I said this is America and there are laws.

According to this administration, yes I am a bad guy.

Thats right Thomas, remember the lefts opening shot against "the right wing". The MIAC disseminated report on "Right Wing Extremism". I have the document and its essentially a leftist government's concocted lie to promote and legitimize governments use of force against the right.

Sure, I trust this government will abide by the Constitution, I trust them about as far I could throw Michelle.
