Today New York Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer and Pennsylvania Democrat Senator Bob Casey had a hysterical news conference to whine about Eduardo Saverin, the co-founder of Facebook renouncing his American citizenship to avoid the taxes he would have to pay for his share of the IPO of Facebook. By renouncing his citizenship, sources project he will save at least $104 million in taxes.
Schumer and Casey have introduced a bill in the Senate to address this issue.
What is going on and what is wrong?
Schumer and Casey want to allow the IRS to impose a 30% capital gains tax on anyone it “believes” is renouncing their American citizenship to avoid taxes.
Unfortunately there are two problems here. First, America has become such a high tax nation that people are now fleeing America with their wealth. Instead of realizing the problem is high taxes, like socialist everywhere, they simply wish to imprison people in failed, high tax economic systems.
Instead of doing the logical thing, which would be to lower taxes to attract wealth to the nation, Schumer, Casey and the other members of the Party of Treason want to penalize people.
There is a second much more disturbing part to this story. That is the attitude liberals now have towards people, freedom and the role of the state.
Our founding fathers understood something very important. In order for there to be liberty, the people had to be the masters of the state. As long as the people are the masters of the state, tyranny is held at bay and freedom can thrive.
Unfortunately the Democrats have adopted the philosophy of socialism. Under socialism, people do not rule the state. The state rules the people. Under the philosophy of socialism, people exist to serve the state.
This is the belief system that Chuck Schumer and Bob Casey are expressing. People like Saverin do not exist to exercise their inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They exist to pay taxes to serve the state.
This is the antithesis of what our founding fathers thought when they brought this nation into being. When leaders of one of the parties start to view American citizens as simply chattel of the state, we are all in trouble.
If this belief is allowed to go unchecked, freedom in this great nation will be lost and we will go the way of other states that have slid into the dark night of tyranny.

Permalink Reply by hunter60 on May 18, 2012 at 6:46am I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are enslaved to the state.
"The fundamental relationship between us and our government has evolved into a Matrix like construct where the machinery of government uses our life to power itself, uses us to enslave ourselves, we are in effect the source of their power because we produce the values i.e. cash that funds their lives and elite status."
Sadly many of us have simply accepted this fact as a truth and simply hope that when we switch gangs in DC we'll vote one in that just steals less of our lives.
Folks, our labor and values are harvested for the benefit of the left and the elites in government. We fund their lives, their wealth, their power, and their status while we are allowed just enough of what we earn to keep the people from an open revolt. The theft and enslavement will continue unless the source of power, cash, is cut off. Our current government is an illegitimate extra-constitutional construct designed by the powerful for their benefit. Short ropes and tall trees will eventually be the only recourse to keep the thieves from stealing everything, once they have that the only thing of value we'll have left is our lives and I suspect they'll come for that too.

I agree !
Individual Citizens can't resist the "Long Arm of The Internal Revenue Service" and that is why the Founders of Our Country did not write into the Constitution "The Federal Government Taxing the Individual Citizen....But rather that " The State Government that Represented The Individual Citizen" would Pay the Revenues needed to The Feds......Extortion !
The 16th amendment was as much about Power, as it was about Revenue !

Schumer just found an issue and a TV camera... he never misses one...

It is amazing the logic of THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SPENDING TOO MUCH escapes the liberals and present Obama cronies who can't set a budget or control their spending monkeys?
Permalink Reply by John Bellaire on May 18, 2012 at 8:39am I think Saverin simply has the means to do what a lot of other people would like to do. I do not believe Saverin split because he does not like America or that he minds paying taxes. The problem is that rich people already pay more than their share and much of the excessive tax money is either outright wasted by the government or not used for the good of the country anyway, so why would any intelligent person want irresponsible people in our government to have it knowing that it will only be wasted.

Permalink Reply by Harry Schlichting on May 18, 2012 at 11:08am Saverin is a hero. If the socialist/marxist Big Brother Federal government wants to continue to punish success and promote poverty, then he's doing the right thing by leaving with whatever the Feds don't steal from him. I think others should follow suit and leave this decrepit socialist nation until the Feds realize that they're doing something wrong. But in their arrogance, I don't believe they ever will.

Well, is this a surprise? Money is at the core of every issue you can come up with concerning the federal government.
With all the blathering on this website, I have yet to see anyone admit that the root problem of the federal government is that it has access to too much of our money. Congress is like a spoiled rich kid who has everything, gets everything, but wants MORE. Changing congressmen will not solve the problem.
Repeal of the 16th and 17th amendments, and appointment of gubernatorial cabinet members , by their governors, to serve in the U.S. Senate. Flat rate income tax on the gross reciepts of each state, with no deductions. This would resolve 90% of the problems I see you Tea party people complaining about.
Of course it will never happen because the congress will not give up the golden goose and niether will the state legislatures. SO, we either stop complaining, greese up and bend over do what our founding father's would do.

Really? Well, then you have not been paying attention Mr. Avila. Just in this thread I see responses mentioning the governments source of power, cash, our cash taken for purposes this extra-constitutional government could never justify under our Constitution. They were posted before your comment on this thread. I've mentioned that very thing as a comment on this post. I've seen what you say is neglected on this post mentioned several times on this and plenty of other blog posts.
We TEA Party people are well aware of what fuels the machinery of our runaway government. We support the campaigns of patriots, and the policy issues of freedom with direct political involvement. The 2010 "R" House majority and a narrowing of the numbers in the Senate were produced by the TEA Party. We're politically active, walking precincts, manning phone banks, carrying signs, talking to our neighbors. What are you doing?
So, if you advocate anything else other than a political solution, please, show us the way. Lead by example. Oh, and if you're not TEA Party, pray tell, what might you be doing here. Spread a little bile and tell us to bend over for the fed. Really? Our founding fathers not only fought a revolution but created the guiding principles of how to operate a Constitutional Republic. What has happened to us is the substitution of morality, the enemy's for ours, and a breakdown of the underlying philosophy. Leftists and power elites have perverted the philosophy and poisoned the culture but they did it with the help of the professional intellectual class and the media. With about half of us politically left and the media essentially a full-blown propaganda organ of the left what would you advocate? Civil war? Thats right, let me walk down the street and shoot my neighbor? Violence is the last resort of the incompetent so the folks in our government who are violating their oaths of office deserve the due process they would deny us. I'll wait to see the traitors arrested, tried, and disposed of by the judiciary in a legal court.
Our Renaissance as a nation will not come at the point of a gun but by correcting the cultural issues and fixing our poisoned philosophy, by winning the battle of ideas.
The only one blathering appears to be you.
