Today, in an act of terrorism, a nut tried to kill Congressman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).  Fortunately, contrary to earlier reports, she will live.  The police have not released details yet, including whether she was the target, or US District Judge John Roll, who was killed in the attack or someone else.

The aftermath of this act will be felt for sometime to come.  It is the end of perhaps two eras here in the United States.

In America, though we might have differences, there were always certain things we could agree on.  Conservatives and liberals could discuss and debate issues.  That era is gone and the aftermath of today’s shooting is the official obituary for political civility in this country.

Although there was no proof the shooter was involved in conservative politics or the Tea Party, the left went nuts.  Immediately after the shooting, the left went after the Tea Party.   The Daily Kos went on a rant.  On the Hill.com, one of the comments in the story about the shooting was from someone called “AC.”  He said:

The Tucson Tea Party will be made to pay for the blood on their hands. An eye for an eye. You want a civil war, you got one. KILL Jesse Kelly for his role, then KILL Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Gleen Beck(sic). Whoever puts BULLETS in ther HEADS shall be a NATIONAL HERO.

On twitter, leftists were going after Sarah Palin in particular.  Tweeters castigated Palin because during the election, she had put cross hairs on Giffords’ district, which was closely fought.  They were then upset that her Webmaster took the image down.  At Tea Party Nation, we were on the receiving end of some of this vitriol from the left.

Someone named “Kathlovestennis” tweeted: @teapartynation Your Hitmap, your hatred, your racism, your anti-semitism, your homophobia have created this hateful act. #repgiffords

Paul Krugman, who is generally an idiot, lived up to his reputation by trying to tie the Tea Party into an incident that has nothing to do with politics.

Traitor to America, Jane Fonda had to add her twitter to the list, blaming both Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck for the shooting, as well as the Tea Party.    Why isn’t she in prison for what she did to American POW’s in Vietnam?

The left has simply gone too far.  There can be no civil discourse with people as crazy as those on the left are.  What that says for the future of this country is tragic.

The second era that may have ended today is the era of easy access to our leaders.    America has had a tradition of easy and open access to our leaders.  Indeed, Congressman Giffords was at a meeting she called “Congress on the corner” when she was shot.  With the exception of the Speaker of the House, neither Congressmen nor Senators have Secret Service protection.  They will frequently come to events and meet the public with zero security.   That has been the beauty of America.   That also may have died today.

Every Senator and Congressman is now reevaluating their personal security, as they all should.  The easy contact Americans have enjoyed with their representatives may be a thing of the past.  In the future, town hall meetings maybe held in secured locations, such as Federal buildings or over the Internet.   Even the political events they attend may become subject to the same strict security we see when the President is speaking.

For today, we can say a prayer for those who lived through the shooting in Arizona, those who did not and their families and for America.  Thanks to the hard left, America can now say goodbye to any type of political civility.

UPDATE:  In a shocking development, people who knew the shooter are saying he was a ..... liberal.

My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me!

by BoyBlue Thu Jan 06, 2011 at 11:07:17 AM PST

I am from the Tucson area and live in Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords' district. I worked like a dog for her elections when she was in the Arizona House, surrounded by rightwing nutcases. When Arizona re-districted in 2002, a seat opened up and she was right smack in the middle of it. So was I because I live in Oro Valley, Arizona, which is at the heart of that - then - new CD. I was one of several people to talk her into running and pledging complete loyalty and pledging to raise as much money as possible for her.

She ended up running for the first time against a fellow AZ House member, Randy Graf who was a rightwing whacko who advocated guns in bars and was the "Russell Pearce before Russell Pearce" vis-a-vis border issues. With a LOT of hard work and plenty of money, Gabby won. Easier than thought, too. I never like to throw money in people's faces, but i have given Gabrielle Giffords THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in both good times and bad times for me financially.

* BoyBlue's diary :: :: *

Fast forward to this election season. A weirdo a****** named Jesse Kelly who advocated ELIMINATING Social Security and was a tea bagger favorite got the GOP nom to run against her. I am gay and had been married and my spouse left me January 15, 2010. I shot myself in the mouth in a serious suicide attempt, because of that. Barely surviving, I spent two months in the hospital and still have some paralysis. I did receive a severance from my employer, as i had been laid off in December, 2009. That may have been part of the reason my spouse left me.

Anyway, after months of physical and mental rehab, I got back into the political scene and started working for Gabby once again. I raised over $100,000 for her and maxed her out myself out of my severance, even though i still don't have work and could not qualify for state aid because of my severance.

She wins her re-election and told me she was still a supporter of Speaker Pelosi at her victory party. We talked about how Nancy Pelosi was a successful woman and accomplished oh so much in just four years as Speaker.

Today, just a little while ago, I saw on Andrea Mitchell Reports (out of the one eye in can still see out of) that Giffords voted AGAINST Nancy Pelosi as our Minority Leader. Rhetorical question: I fought back from my condition and jumped in with both feet to help Gabrielle Giffords for THIS s***???

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is dead to me now. I won't lift a finger, make one phone call, nor will i EVER vote for her in the future. And why did she do this? Giffords never told me she was conservative Democrat. And her voting record is okay. Damn.

When will any of you realize that forever we will have our differences, Gay, straight, man, woman, child, Politian, etc, but what makes us Human is the fact that we CARE about each other !!! We have just got to stop this hate, and seek SOLUTIONS.... Honestly, as simple and 'childlike' as it is: Our Motivation in ALL things has to be LOVE, if it isn't motivated by Love, it nots worth ANYTHING !
So Vicki, What if the "solutions" are not to my liking,  like ObamaCare, repeal of DADT, etc.? This is where all this is headed, some have come to the end of their road and will not back down.

Grow up, please.  Nobody is buying your crap.  We don't hate.  We vehemently disagree with our leaders trying to take us to a Godless nation.

And we will continue to vehemently disagree with those who try to turn this country into Godless nation. Hopefully, it just stays at the talk level. From his post, sounds like he was a deeply disturbed individual and felt betrayed by someone he idolized. We all know that feeling, at one time or another in our lives, we've been there. This nut just carried it to the maximum payback. Unrequited love leads some to do crazy things. Sounds like this guy was already a candidate for the loony bin.

Vicki, I agree with you.  I believe love is our motivation - love for our country and American values.

No doubt that your heart is in the right place, but  I must respectfully submit to you that your position is naive and in fact, lacking in an understanding of what it means to"love" another human being.  There is a chasm in the ideology between the progressive left and the conservative right.  Know that the “progressive” movement is an extension of communism, which applies political power in lieu of military power to achieve its ends.  Our nation was created on a whole different set of principals set-out in the Declaration of Independence, which is rooted in the fear of God and the recognition that liberty is God given.  This founding document reflects the essence of “love” as it pertains to all men.  It also makes clear that when there is a threat to our liberty that we are duty-bound as a free nation to defend ourselves from tyranny, which is at the heart of the progressive movement. It is, therefore, in the name of  “love” that we MUST oppose and defeat the left.

The congresswoman was a conservative Democrat, a blue dog.

And just what side is benefitting from this insane act of violence?

The left.

She was not a conservative, but I agree with you.  The left benefits from this.

"Conservative?"  ha!

- Immigration "reform"

- Unrestricted stem cell research

- Pro-abortion (anti-life)

- Voted for Obamacare

- Voted Stimulus

- Voted TARP

- and much, much more

Blue dog+ Liberal    Ha!
