Tea Party Nation has had a policy of not endorsing candidates.  We feel that in most instances, the local tea party groups are in a far better position to judge the merits of individual candidates.  As I have told groups before, "I believe we should not endorse candidates, candidates should endorse us!"

I have received a few emails from people saying that they thought we should endorse candidates.  I want to know what you think!  Should Tea Party Nation endorse candidates?  Why or why not?  What criteria, if any, should we use if we decide to make an endorsement?

Give us your thoughts, as Tea Party Nation is made up of all of it's members and this is an important decision for us!

It's very important to endorse candidates that stand for the same principles we do. We don't have all the information we need to make an informed decision.
Well said-I like that approach.
Great point Mr. Taylor! None of them are going to throw themselves out of office for the mess Huey had a hand in, so we need to give them a shove and let new candidates change the face of government!

I do not believe the Tea Party Nation should endorse political candidates. We still need to establish that we are not affiliated with any particular political party or representative of said party. It is a common misnomer that we are a part of the "right wing republican", giving less credibility to the cause. Stated eloquently above, "...candidates should endorse us!"
Some one commented that the Tea Party is not a political party but rather a movement. Balderdash - ACORN, NAACP, La Raza, etc., are not political parties but yet they endorse ONLY Democrats candidates. Each Tea Party organization in each state has a responsibility to vet each conservative candidate albeit a Republican, Constitutionalist or Libertarian candidate - incumbent or newcomer and endorse the one who commits to the true meaning of the Constitution as written by the Founding Fathers and not reinterpreting its meaning - i.e., a living document
What is wrong with this site. I have clicked on stop following and I am still getting email from discussions.
I am running for 3rd district senate in North Dakota. I believe you have it right. tea party members are not sheep. candidates need to endorse the tea party not the other way around.

I would describe myself as a Christian, husband, father and I am a Constitutional Conservative. I have been happily married for 24 years. Liz has been my best friend and partner. She has been working as a psychotherapist for 17 years. We have been blessed with two children. Austin is 17 and has been selected to participate in the Annapolis Naval Academy Summer Seminar.
Meggan is 15 and is participating in Business Challenge this summer. I have been facilitating learning in the area of Automotive Technology as a teacher with Minot Public Schools since 1996. Prior to teaching I have been employed in the transportation industry, was involved in farming and ranching, and in the oil field. My first job was working in the logging industry as a maintenance and brake technician on logging trucks. Family roots called me into farming and ranching for a period of time in the mid 80’s. The oil boom in the late 80’s planted me into the oil field. I discovered my love for teaching by chance during employment with the Quentin Burdick Job Corps Center.
During my employment I have been involved in a variety of boards, committees, unions, and community affairs. One of my latest accomplishments was being on the committee for construction of a new regional facility for the Northwest Regional Career and Technical Education center. I am continually involved in problem solving with peers and working with our future leaders. I have had to utilize constructive communication skills toward solutions so that all can walk away feeling that what is best for our future has been accomplished. I am confident that with my life and learned experiences I will be an asset for the 3rd district Senate.
