Tea Party Nation has had a policy of not endorsing candidates.  We feel that in most instances, the local tea party groups are in a far better position to judge the merits of individual candidates.  As I have told groups before, "I believe we should not endorse candidates, candidates should endorse us!"

I have received a few emails from people saying that they thought we should endorse candidates.  I want to know what you think!  Should Tea Party Nation endorse candidates?  Why or why not?  What criteria, if any, should we use if we decide to make an endorsement?

Give us your thoughts, as Tea Party Nation is made up of all of it's members and this is an important decision for us!

Spoken like a true not Dem, Judson.
Not like an idealist, which many of us are, but as a realist. We gotta stop this Socialist freight train, and reverse it where we can!
Ideology is great, join in skirmishes, whenever possible. But winning the war, reversing socialism, is penultimate!
sorry but a socialist "R" is still just another GD socialist! Voting in an "R" simply because it is there is the absolute dumbest idea ever.
Ronnie, my opinion is that I don't believe this has anything to do with Tea Party Nation "worrying about offending someone." My position is that I do not want anyone -- or any organization -- speaking for me. We are INDIVIDUALS, like-minded, but with differing opinions on some issues. , I believe Tea Party Nation is doing its job best with education and information -- not by endorsements. We need to take responsibility ourselves to vet the candidates, and see where they stand on issues most important to us. And, it is then our INDIVIDUAL decision as to whom we choose to support.
We may not endorse candidates but we can share information when a state Tea Party endorses a candidate.

I have been working with the AZ Tea Parties about supporting an independent candidate against John McCain. I have just received this communique today from them.

Ms. Woodward... For your info., just made contact with this legitimately registered, Independent, write-in candidate for Senate.
He's been doing speaking engagements mostly in the Valley area. Pass it on if you like.
The first link is to his website.

The second link is to a profile page including a video interview dealing with 10 "vetting" questions.  Quite interesting.

Who is the write in. If he is not nuts, which so many of the write ins are, I'd love to offer him some help.
The write in is in the above post. His website plus the TP video of his vetting are embedded in my post. He would definitely appreciate our help. I thought the video of his vetting was very "down to earth". IMO he is everything John McCain is not.

Ian Gilyeat for U.S. Senate.
Judson . . . .. . more recent communications have informed me that Ian is getting some traction with his candidacy. He has received speaking invitations and is working on petition signatures to get his name on the ballot. I believe that the AZ Tea Parties are trying to regroup and recoup this election. They recognize their primary was a disaster from the get go. They have nothing to loose in supporting Ian Gillyeat as an Independent candidate. Ian says he is experiencing a surge in interest and calls. It would be good if we could help in any way. I still believe in miracles.

I say NO, once you endorse a candidate, you are no Longer a bi-partisan organization, and this would kill the purpose of the Tea Party.

We want people of all parties to be members, so we can educate people on the issues and the candidates.

Once you endorse a candidate, Say a Republican, how many Democrat, Libertarin, Independent members do you

think you will have?

Your membership would take a big tumble.

We like to hold debate  session with candidates running for office, if you endorse, you will not get many participants in your debate, what would be the purpose if you have already made a choice?

Merry Christmas
