To state the obvious, our spending is out of control. It is equally obvious that anyone who wants America to continue spending the way our government has been for the last few years, simply wants America to commit economic suicide.
Where can we start cutting?
There are some obvious no brainers. With hundreds of billions of dollars in waste, fraud and duplicated services, picking targets should be easy.
Lets start with a real no brainer: The United Nations.
In case you missed this gem, from the UK Guardian:
A United Nations investigator probing discrimination against Native Americans has called on the US government to return some of the land stolen from Indian tribes as a step toward combatting continuing and systemic racial discrimination.
James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, said no member of the US Congress would meet him as he investigated the part played by the government in the considerable difficulties faced by Indian tribes.
Anaya said that in nearly two weeks of visiting Indian reservations, indigenous communities in Alaska and Hawaii, and Native Americans now living in cities, he encountered people who suffered a history of dispossession of their lands and resources, the breakdown of their societies and "numerous instances of outright brutality, all grounded on racial discrimination".
"It's a racial discrimination that they feel is both systemic and also specific instances of ongoing discrimination that is felt at the individual level," he said. Anaya said racism extended from the broad relationship between federal or state governments and tribes down to local issues such as education.
Who the hell asked the United Nations to even look at this issue? Perhaps they should spend some time investigating Iran’s atrocities or the way Islamists persecute non-Muslims throughout the Middle East.
I will say, for the first time in my life I am proud of Congress, since no one from that body would meet with this clown.
Why are we even spending money on the United Nations? Can anyone name one good thing the United Nations has done recently? For FY2012, the estimated cost of the United Nations to the United States is almost $4 billion. That is $4 billion in waste.
The United States pays for the privilege of hosting a bunch of radical leftists and America hating Islamists and what do we get for this?
Not a damn thing.
Our economy is a train wreck, heading at full speed off of a cliff. Cutting $4 billion from the budget for the United Nations won’t stop the train wreck, but it is a great place to start.
Permalink Reply by Laura on May 6, 2012 at 10:28am What is the UN doing in our business? This has got to STOP! Finally Congress does something that makes sense by refusing to talk to this guy. A side note: I do not believe in Indian reservations. In one of Bush's speeches (probably referring to Muslims), he said, "We cannot have a nation within a nation." At the time I thought....we already do - the Indian nation. But to the point, we must not let the UN gain authority over our country period - in any way shape or form.

Permalink Reply by Donald Walker on May 6, 2012 at 11:57am You know, when I was much younger I used to see signs at the side of the road stating," Get out of the U.N" and it puzzled me. I really did not know what the UN was and thought it was something to have so many countries from around the world come together and work out their differences. Now that I am older and see how intrusive the UN has become in American life these strange sign writers I deem now to be prophetic in a sense for they knew something I didn’t know. It is time for this love affair to end and I agree; send them packing.
Permalink Reply by janet barks on May 6, 2012 at 3:47pm According to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, proposals on how the “challenges can and must be addressed,” include:
--'More than $2.1 trillion a year in wealth transfers from rich countries to poorer ones, in the name of fostering “green infrastructure ... climate adaptation ... other green economy” measures.'
The U.N. is now openly pushing World Socialism, i.e. Globalism, via The Green Movement...and they announced this on Earth Day, Vladmir Lenin's Birthday...coincidence? You know, they "accidentally" announced their promotion of World Socialism, using "Sustainable Development/Green Economy", and they did it "accidentally" on Earth Day"...right.
Permalink Reply by Patricia Castellano on May 6, 2012 at 4:01pm This imposter has to be impeached so all is executive orders are deemed invalid. All he does is use his executive powers. It won't be undone unless he is impeached. Why is this not happening, I do not understand. He took an oath to uphold the Constitution and is spitting on it.
Patricia,
It is my understanding that impeachment, satisfying though it may be, would give legitimacy to O's status as president, thus making it more difficult to simply discard the laws and EO's he has signed. Don't know if that has anything to do with reluctance by Congress to impeach. Wonder how they feel about horsewhipping?

FIVE YEARS!!! Not a day more..... Nor a dollar more while on US soil.....

Permalink Reply by Ronald Sorrells on May 7, 2012 at 5:53am We need the "Attention of Congress". No for a fleeting moment but as We The People.
Therefore, I propose that All 50 State Governors & State Legislatures enact state legislation to place "their" United States Congressmen and United States Senators on "their" State's Payroll for Salary, Expenses, Medical Care & Retirement. Additionally, prohibit the House or Senate Member from "Receiving any other form of renumeration or fringe benefits (from any other source) Under The Penalty of Permanent Withdrawal from their position as a "Messenger from the State to the U.S. Congress".

Being impeached will not do away with his executive orders or any others laws that he signed. Thrown out of the White House because of him not being a legal President, per the Constitution, would do it though.
