John Boehner went to Wall Street last night. A lot of people wanted to hear what he had to say. While Dancing with the Stars seems to rate higher on people’s radar than Boehner’s speech, what he said was important. So were the smoke and mirrors he set up.
Boehner’s proposal is simple. For every dollar the debt ceiling is increased, there must be a dollar cut in spending. Boehner reminds me of J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye comics and his famous line, “I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”
Boehner is either totally and shockingly ignorant or simply selling us some oceanfront property in Arizona.
First, this is not a one for one trade off. Borrowing money costs money. If nothing else, we will have to pay service on that debt so our spending still increases. Second, does anyone really believe Congress can control itself?
Congress has about as much self control with money as Michael Moore does around a box of Krispee Kreme Donuts.
Boehner is giving us the typical Washington bait and switch. He wants us to agree to a debt ceiling increase today in exchange for spending cuts FIVE YEARS OUT.
Obama is being intransigent. Why not? His opposition is John Boehner. Obama has made it obvious he does not want any cuts. Obama wants to spend us into bankruptcy and is well on his way to doing that.
Boehner and the GOP establishment wonder why the Tea Party and conservatives are so opposed to Boehner. It is simple - Boehner has a track record. It is a record of surrender. We conservatives have neither forgotten nor forgiven him for the budget deal. When he came in as Speaker, the GOP promised $100 billion dollars in budget cuts for this year’s budget that Nancy Pelosi never passed because she feared passing the budget would harm Democrats in the fall election. Boehner managed to work out a compromise, which in the end, meant a whopping $352 MILLION in budget cuts. That is 1/3 of one percent of what they promised.
Last night, Boehner said, “we should be talking about cuts of trillions, not billions.” When Boehner’s cuts morphed from billions into millions, my level of confidence in Boehner is not exactly high.
The only alternative is to pressure our congressmen to vote against ANY increase in the debt ceiling. Obama and Geithner will probably make sure America defaults on its debt, even though there is more than enough money to pay the debt service. This is going to be a difficult time, but we are going to have to do something. As we have mentioned here on Tea Party Nation before, the way we are going is not unexplored territory. Europe has already gone down that road. They have already drunk the Kool-Aid. We can ask them how the hope and change worked out for them, but we already know the answer. Some of the European countries are about to tank and the rest of Europe has neither the inclination nor ability to bail them out much longer.
We are at the point in our economic fight that is something like a scene from one of the old Star Trek episodes where Scotty tells Captain Kirk, “if we don’t break away now, we never will.” If we do not stop the borrow and spend addiction that both Republicans and Democrats have enabled, we will never stop it.
If we are going to win this fight, Boehner is going to have to do something that is not in his nature. He is going to have to fight.
Boehner talks a great game, but keeps his white flag of surrender floating in the breeze.
Well, Mr. Boehner, talk is cheap. Haul down that flag and fight!

Another important issue today is a bill in the Senate -- S. 679 -- Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011.
The bill reduces the number of presidential appointments that require the consent of the Senate and establishes within the Executive Branch a Working Group on Streamlining Paperwork for Executive Nominations. Obviously, Obama would like this bill to be passed as it is to his advantage, and it is being speeded through the Senate before it will be sent to the House.

We need to vote all the bastards out of office as quickly as possible.

The reason they talk the talk and don't walk the walk, is principles. Or rather, their lack of any. They take the pragmatic (anti-principled) approach.
"Big spending cuts! And raise the debt ceiling !" "Fix entitlements ! Save and perpetuate entitlements so those awful Democrats can't bankrupt them !" "Budget sanity ! Slash one third of one percent of what you promised, or rather, one third of one sixteenth of all deficit spending, or rather, one third, of one thirty-fifth, of all total spending."
Than call yourself fiscal conservatives, pat yourselfs on the backs, and open your hands to the Tea Parties for financial support , and claim you are saving the country from the "scourge of Obama" .01 % at a time. Expect huge donations, rinse and repeat.

Will we get the debt under control now, or have a catastrophic jarring end to our ability to borrow at all?

Dung beetles are of the Scarabaeinae species and feed exclusively on feces and are dung-feeding beetles. Many dung beetles, known as rollers, are noted for rolling dung into spherical balls, which are used as a food source or brooding chambers. Baby beetles simply live in manure.
The mother beetle lays eggs in the ball of dung and then rolls it around with the nose in the ground, using only the two front legs for leverage, and the four back legs are used to guide the ball.
They roll the ball of crap up a hill with their nose in the ground, not knowing or seeing where they are going, and when they come to an obstacle that is unknown, they roll the ball until they get tired. They flip off upside down to rest. After some rest period, they find the ball which had rolled back down the hill at an angle and lodged somewhere below, and start the backwards roll all over again. They do this until the dung ball rolls off into a gully collapsing sand or debris over it and the dung beetle can no longer find it. A new brood hatches and they repeat the cycle. Sometimes, the dung beetle gets eaten by a burrow owl whilst rolling the s*** around.
