One of the great failures of the last liberal congress, one which none of us should complain about, was their inability to pass a budget. Instead, they kept the government running on what is called a continuing resolution.
This resolution funds the government for a limited amount of time. In this case, it runs until March 4.
The Democrats want to keep spending money like, well, drunken Democrats. The Republican leadership right now is not much better. They vowed to cut $100 billion from the budget, and then backtracked on that. They then backtracked on their backtracking after the Tea Party called them on it.
Since the leadership of congress is not willing to do the serious budget cutting that needs to be done, there is an alternative.
Shut the government down.
Someone said the American people would be amazed if the government is shut down, when they realize how much government spending they don’t miss.
We can get massive budget cuts if the government is not functioning to spend the money. Now, some parts of the government we will need to fund, such as the military. Those few things can be put in a bill from the House and sent to the Senate or the White House. Can you imagine Dingy Harry Reid or the Narcissist in Chief trying to explain why they would not approve a bill that keeps the money going to our military while they are trying to squeeze trillions for pork barrel projects?
Our national debt is now as large as our national income. Something has to give. Shutting down the government is pretty radical but lesser ideas are not going anywhere right now, so why not?
Many in the Republican leadership are afraid of trying something this bold. Many are just Washington insiders who worry what their Washington friends will say about them if they shut the government down. Others remember 1995. Newt Gingrich was blamed for the government shut down that Bill Clinton actually created.
Those were the days when the left still had a media monopoly. That no longer exists. There is Fox News, and Internet sites such as Tea Party Nation and World Net Daily.
To our friends in the GOP, we say it is time for some courage. America needs you. Are you brave enough to step up for America?

Permalink Reply by Paul Phaneuf on February 15, 2011 at 7:22pm I would consider it a blessing if the government were to shut down. I am 62. I don't care what has to be done to stop the house from burning down. What good is fixing the leaky roof if the house is destroyed? I would give up my so called social security if it saved the country for my children and grandchildren. We don't deserve the social security for being so lazy and stupid as to allow these schemers and charlatans to have conned us in the first place.

Permalink Reply by Genevieve J. Douma on February 16, 2011 at 3:12am I have to disagree with you about giving up your social security, I'm sure you worked all your life and did the right thing for America . Our generation, with the exemptions of the radical hippies, is who carried the values of our parents into the forefront of the Tea Party movement and maybe will save our Country for our children and theirs.
If the Govt' and the crazy liberals stop paying our tax money to people who do not deserve it like the lazy and stupid (lazy and stupid like a fox ) illegals medical care, sending our money to other countries that support terrorism we would be OK. Who would have thought at our age we would be fighting the commies and crazy love flower hippies like in the 60,s. All I can say is GOD BLESS AMERICA so keep strong we will win again!
Permalink Reply by Ruth Langkawel on February 16, 2011 at 10:59am Please allow me to correct one huge misconception. The comunist radicals that supported violence in the 60's were NOT HIPPIES.
Hippies believed strongly in pacifism; in spreading love; in living lightly on mother earth; in not fouling our bodies with chemicals. Our heroes were Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr; not Che Guevara and Mao Tse Tung.
The vast majority never participated in an orgy, and a significant number did not partake of any drugs - we "got high on life" (meaning enjoyed life on a natural level - not drug induced).
A radical hippy was a nudist who didn't shave, didn't wear deodorants, bathed using only natural ingredient shampoos.
While the communists did convince many students to join in their "revolution" against the evil capitalists. Those students were anathema to hippies.

Permalink Reply by Abram Hall on February 16, 2011 at 3:49am Easy for you to say friend. But there are many who rely on that system they paid into to continue living. So before you give away someone elses lifeline perhaps you should do a little more thinking. And not all of us have been lazy and stupid, the problem is that noone was listening when some of us were saying the sky was falling. Now that it is laying at our feet, there sure are a lot who want to complain.
So, fixing our budget is easy. Do away with everything that is unconstitutional. Foreign Aid, Charity (medicaid, welfare, food stamps), Department of Energy, Department of Human Services, Funding Planned Parenthood, Ownership of GM, Obamas family vacations, Congress and Senates health insurance and retirement plans.
Just by closing down some of the Administrations that do nothing, we could fund our budget for an entire year. The fact is that it would put a number of people out of government jobs. Oh well. The lifting of the bureaucracy would open up private sector business almost overnight. Get rid of the administration responsible for oil drilling permits and you will but hundreds of thousands to work, produce oil, lower gas prices and increase the monies in our treasury paid in in taxes.
So think a little. We don't need to close the government. We need to fix it. And if the elected officials we have now do not want to fix it, then we need to replace them. And anybody out there who doesn't vote, please until you quit being a part of the problem, Shut Up.
