It is no great shock that as we wake up this morning, the drumbeat out of Washington is relentlessly moving towards a “deal” on the debt ceiling crisis.
The mindset of Washington is always the deal. Actually that really should be the Washington mindset is always for conservatives to make a deal. Conservatives are always the one’s who are supposed to reach across the aisle and make the deal. In Washington, victory is reserved only for liberals.
So how bad is this deal?
Well, the deal is not done yet.
News reports say the agreement will allow for the debt ceiling to be raised between $2.1 and $2.4 trillion. Another massive layer of debt piled upon America. The debt ceiling deal will not only kick this crisis past the next election, and we know political self preservation is a politician’s top priority, it will also mean more funding for the easy and endless expansion of the federal government.
There will be $1.2 trillion in cuts over the next ten years. As has been noted here many times, those are fantasy cuts. Any cut that does not take place this year might as well not even exist. Any cut can and probably will be undone by a future congress. If and when we have a recovery, where more money is pouring into the Treasury, those politicians who reluctantly cut spending will be in line to spend it faster than an eight year old child in a toy store with a pocket full of money from the tooth fairy. Wait, that is not accurate. An eight-year-old child would show more wisdom and self-restraint than the politicians in Washington.
Congress is going to create a special committee to make recommendations for budget cuts. This one should scare everyone to death. One of the rules in politics is you never delegate something to a committee unless you know who is going to be on the committee and what their end result is going to be. The members of this committee are going to be selected by, presumably, Harry Reid, John Boehner and possibly Barack Obama.
Does anyone really believe this committee will help us?
There was another committee that was supposed to do this. The Simpson Bowles committee came up with a bunch of recommendations. All bad.
I have an idea for John Boehner. While you are hauling up your freshly laundered white flag of surrender and polishing the sign on your desk that says surrender early and surrender often, why don’t you put a bunch of Tea Party people on this committee? I’ll volunteer for it.
There are a lot of really bright people in this movement. If given the chance, we can do what you fail to do. Come up with real savings and real cuts that do not endanger our national security.
Of course, the one redeeming quality this deal will have, is it will allow Obama, Pelosi and Reid to slash defense spending, which will appeal to their base in the Party of Treason.
How bad will they slash it?
We don’t know yet, all the details are not finalized. But remember, ending America’s status as a superpower, both militarily and economically is a major goal of the Obama, Pelosi, Reid axis of fiscal evil.
The only good news for the rest of us is, according to the news reports there will be no new taxes in the deal. That is at best a minor victory for us. Wasteful government spending will not be curbed. The country is sliding further into debt and Washington will soon be congratulating themselves on the great deal they have struck. Funding for the endless, easy expansion of government will be preserved.
Perhaps the biggest fraud of all will be on the American people. The rationale for the debt deal was not only so that America did not default on loan payments (which would not have happened, despite what Washington said), but also that America did not lose its AAA credit rating.
As of Friday, Moody’s, the leading credit rating agency, said that neither the House bill nor the Senate bill would save America’s credit rating. It seems inconceivable that if neither bill would save our AAA credit rating, a really bad compromise will not either.
Or course, we don’t know what an Obama bill may have looked like, because he never produced any plan.
The credit rating agencies have not only been concerned about the debt ceiling debate, but also America’s level of debt. Egan-Jones issued a warning about America’s credit rating when it downgraded America’s debt from AAA to AA+. It cited not the debt ceiling but the amount of debt and no clear plan or even willingness for congress to address the underlying spending issues.
In Greece and other parts of Europe, we are seeing the end game for these policies. In Greece there are riots in the streets. Their economy is in a death spiral for which there is no escape. This is America’s future.
We still have time to escape. Unfortunately our leaders don’t want us to escape. The iceberg is right ahead and instead of turning, Obama, Pelosi and Reid are ordering full speed ahead because they want us to hit that iceberg and John Boehner just wants another cigarette.
Default would have been better than a bad deal. For whatever pain it would cause, we could deal with it now and move on. Instead, our “leaders” have pushed this further down the road and when we finally do have to deal with the debt disaster, the consequences will be much more severe.
We have few leaders in Washington, and the ones in positions of power are cowards. They refuse to the right thing for America, it’s future and it’s people. They are more concerned with getting re-elected than doing what needs to be done.
God help America. Our leaders certainly are not going to. |

I'm also prepared for that reality, Mr Bryson. I'm a very pragmatic person who is committed to accomplishing our goals by the Constitutional means handed down to us. However, should those means be denied to me, I will pursue other courses.
I will say this, there were those, who, like you are doing now, predicted martial law would pre-emt the 2010 elections...you know how that went.
Thank you, Mr Thiele.
I, too, believe that the Left stands no chance in 2012. They will be left with their inner city votes and their hard core believers. My conservative prediction is that they will receive no more than 40% of the vote, but honestly, I believe it will be lower.
As a matter of fact, I predict that whoever wins the Republican Primary will be the next President. Therefore it behooves us to make sure that person is a trustworthy Conservative.
I am in total agreement of your "read" of the field. Of the two, Bachmann is my choice. She has been on the front lines, leading, since day one. Cain is a "johnny come lately" in my opinion, I never saw him at any Tea Party rallies. I may be wrong about that. If so, I would be glad to hear that he was involved. Should Sarah Palin announce, I would have to rethink my support.
I took this picture of Michele at her "House Call" rally against ObamaCare in DC on Nov 5, '09...Show me a picture of Cain surrounded by those flags from that time and I will consider him more seriously.

The deficit will continue to grow until some national disaster makes reform mandatory for survival. The tactic of saying you don't want to put this debt on your grandchildren doesn't register. "I want my money and I want it now" is the mantra.
Actually the leaders are following the wishes of many voters. No austerity in our time.
Some calamity will occur and society will have to make new arrangements.

We the people must over throw this government. How do we do this? Well WE the Tea party need to have representatives get elected. Stop wishing hoping for (insert favorite tea party conservative name here) to do the job. We've seen was most or at least key tea party candidates did for us. YOU have to get elected, YOU have to do the work to get this job done. God help us to peacefully over throw this government.

Permalink Reply by John on July 31, 2011 at 8:32am Welcome to the Democratic run Government.
Obama, Pelosi and Reid the gang of three run the Government no matter how much we object they will prevail.
It is a hate thing, they hate, HATE Republicans and will sink the Country just to stick a thumb in the eye of he Republican party.
It all comes down to Reid the whipping child of Obama, he will do what ever Obama says, and yes Obama is the source behind the Reid plan and Reid is the fall guy.
What can we do?
NOTHING NOW but come election time all hell will break loose.
