Permalink Reply by Lou Woods on November 4, 2012 at 1:07pm It seems that there is some mis-information coming out of Fox News, and this serves no one.
Living in this area, there is a lot of damage and shortages. Trees on power lines are being taken care of in a systematic manner.
We've even seen service trucks from as far away as Quebec and Texas here working.
The National Guard was bringing in fuel to hit areas as of a couple of days ago.
There's plenty of fuel at stations when the electricity is brought back on line.
The President was ahead of the curve and was making preparations days before Sandy hit.
In fact, Mike "Brownie" Brown (Bush's incompetent head of FEMA who resigned 2 weeks after Katrina) condemned Obama for acting too early. Too early? With a storm this size? Are you kidding me?
We prepared by filling our cars, checking our generator, making sure we had plenty of food (we maintain 4-6 weeks minimum, anyway) and looking at plans for evacuation. This way we can be here for others when needed and can get out of needed. Something everyone should have done, of able.
There will be some deaths, but the response is in place, organized and they are getting to these people in need and there will be far fewer deaths than if the Bush/Brown team was running this.
At the moment, we have 1/2 dozen people sleeping here and double that using our house for showers and cooking. A community working together to make thing better for everybody.
Christie, Bloomberg, Cuomo are all very pleased with the level of preparation and response. As are most in the area.
Permalink Reply by John B on November 4, 2012 at 7:01pm Did Hurricane Sandy put NY in play for the President & US Senate elections? The disruption Sandy caused in NYC will probably depress Election Day turnout in liberal NYC & Eastern Nassau county. While conservative Upstate, Western Nassau, & Suffolk County had little major effects from Sandy.
There are only two statewide NY races in 2012 are the President & US Senate. Usually the vote from the NYC region decides statewide races. If the Upstate turnout is high, could Mitt Romney & US Senate candidate Wendy Long now win in NY ?
