I have long had a theory that the candidate with the most money wins. It may not be fair, and some very good (some great) candidates get tossed aside because they just can't keep up with their opponents who have more of the green stuff to spread around.
If you're routing for an Obama defeat and a Romney win, this theory could work out well for you!
Obama's campaign sent out a tweet over the weekend announcing they had 761,000 people donate $75 million during the month of July.
Reporting back on last month’s fundraising numbers: In July, 761,000 people donated to raise over $75 million for this campaign. Thank you. — Barack Obama (@BarackObama)
Meanwhile, Mitt Romney and the RNC raised around $101.3 million.
Over $101.3 Million Raised In July
94.13% Of All Donations Received In July Were $250 Or Less
$25.7 Million Raised By Donations Under $250 In July
600,627 Donations Received Under $250 In July
Approximately $185.9 Million Cash On Hand
Contributions Received From All 50 States And Washington, D.C.
Romney and the RNC are definitely raking in the money for this election. Does that mean we will see a Republican in the White House? Will they take over the Senate and keep the House?
If I were to bet on it, I would say yes. What are your thoughts? Do think the candidate with the most money usually wins?
And if so, is that the way it should be?

Todd on August 6, 2012 at 5:06pm I suspect Mitt's fundraising would skyrocket along with all kinds of free kudos and feet on the street if he were a bit more overt toward the Tea Party philosophy. Kind of reminds me of my Congressman Kevin McCarthy. Drives me nuts even though I love 'em both.
Permalink Reply by Nancy on August 6, 2012 at 5:58pm I find all the $$$ spent on "campaigning" obscene! Just think of all the good that $$$ could do elsewhere--JMHO :)
Nancy , there is nothing 'obscene' about spending money unless you're buying pornography with it!
Your reasoning would seem to say that dollars spent on a campaign go down a black hole never to be seen again. NO, Ma'am!! It goes into the pockets of productive citizens who then buy the things they want and need, thereby enriching other citizens who have produced a good or service.
To all free market supporters who think there is anything 'obscene' about money .. PLEASE go to YouTube and watch anything by Milton Friedman. You'll learn a lot.
Permalink Reply by Doug Nicholson on August 7, 2012 at 12:44am You are correct! Milton Friedman, who would have turned 100 years old on Sunday, was a genius when it comes to economics. The link below shows Friedman owning daytime talk show host Phil Donahue:
Permalink Reply by Janet Bosley on August 11, 2012 at 6:47pm Carol, I pretty much agree except too much of it goes to keep the liberal Media functioning. If we could figure out how to get around that i would say here here. It is easy to get stressed about the amount of money spent on these campaigns caus it is pretty much out of control. It is good to remember that the mnoney goes to US businesses (except for what Michelle O spends outside the country for polls etc.) and it does help the economy. this is the trickle down affect, it works when done this way they just dont work when it is bailouts, that needs to start at the botto and work it way up. That is "IF" you agree with bailout.
Permalink Reply by brad rebers on August 6, 2012 at 11:34pm What goodf does it do to keep the house if Boehner is speaker, I called his office and was told about the 6 month deal it was too hard to defund Obama Care, then step aside Boehner and let Michele Bachman take over.We want results, not excuses. Republicans say one thing,do another,we need T Party Conservatives, not RINO!S or some crybaby like Boehner. Then in the Senate for leader we have that Bumbling Bafoon McConnell who hopefully will not be leader should we retake Senate. My Choice either Mike Lee or Jim DeMint. Do not send the GOP one red cent,I donate to Tea Party Express or Bachman only. If Romney were smart his message is simple REPEAL OBAMA CARE MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT,plaster this message everywhere.
Permalink Reply by Linny Redd on August 7, 2012 at 2:06am I think in most cases people give money to those they believe in. It is hard to say whether the horse follows the cart or not. However, I do think that there should be caps on all campaign funding. I am not sure how those caps should be determined. But after trying to watch the 2012 Olympics, I would also like to see limits to the amount of air time for ads that a regular station can allot to politics--period!
I still question the use of the Electorial College! It certainly did not play out according to the number of popular votes in the 2008 campaign.
The proceedure for verifying votes should also have an IMPARTIAL basis. Surely not something that is to be controlled by
the incumbent!
I agree totally, While Michelle Obama was on her vaca in Spain, she contracted a spainish accounting firm to count the vote, So there is no doubt that the fix is in and bama will get the win, and the RNC will of course demand a totally recount and by that time that can be done, he will be sworn in. Then you will never get rid of him. He will use his excutive Powers to block everything tried to get him out of office. Wake up People! Obama is a idiot but he is a smart Idiot, he has big plans in place to keep the position. Why do you think he does and says what he says? He don't care what the people think, and he don't care what Harry reid says or polosi, THE FIX IS IN.
Permalink Reply by Janet Bosley on August 11, 2012 at 6:32pm Wedall that is a pretty depressing attitude, Romney has done pretty well thus far considering he was batteling his own party for so long, he was critisized for the way he did it, for being bland and boring and told he needed more fire but he has prevailed, he has closed the gap on Obama in spite of the fact that all of us arm chair campaign managers disagree with what he has done. You got to pick your timning, don't think they are stratagizing and pretty much know what they are oging to need to do. save your 1/2 punches and the knockout, dont show your hand too soon. Obama is systematically destroying himself. Have hoe, real HOPE not the knind we have had for the last 4 years. Be careful about which polls you listen to cause a large number of them are Dem heavy and they often use registered voters not likely voters. There is a huge difference in how the nubers come out when it is balanced with Rep and Dems using likely voters. chin up.
Permalink Reply by Donna Beach on August 7, 2012 at 8:47am This may be true, but hearing the folks around me talk about "O", I want to tell Romney to communicate more loudly, express his opinion on how tax cuts help the economy, what he's going to do about drilling/pipeline, coal regulations, the stimulus packages that have done nothing, his own record at Bain Capital and the executive orders that "O" has put in place. Loudly and strongly and Leaderly (if that's a word). Come out of the shell he seems to be in.
I just wished he had picked susanna Martinz the gov of new mexico as his running mate and at the convention I hope he says he wants ron paul as sec of the treasury the kids love ron paul I register them to vote and susanna matinez is the Hispanic vote it would have been a win win for Romney I pray he wins Obama is slick too slimy for me
Permalink Reply by Janet Bosley on August 11, 2012 at 6:38pm guess what, he did'nt he picked Ryan and so forward we go. I think to pick a woman right now would have been disasterous, Just becasue it is on the tail of the previous disaster. it wasnt fair but it was what it was. I may be wrong but right now it really doesnt matter. What we need now is for all of the Republican party members regardless of ultra conservative, Tea Party affiliation, right moderate or what ever we all call ourselves to get over whatever else ails us and get rid of Obama or it wont matter what else ails us right now what will come will be worse than anyone can imagine. So the solution is suck it up, pinch your nose or whatever you have to do but get behind Romney/Ryan loud and clear, put Obama in a major stress mode and let him malfunction and implode.
Since this is FB that "you" doesnt specifically mean you,;0) it means all of us depending on where we stand right now.
