Last night Mitt Romney was circulating with the exuberance of an Irish Setter, just released from a dog crate strapped to the top of a car.   The Romney sympathetic media, that being the liberal media who want to see him against Obama and the establishment conservative media who are in the tank for him, are overjoyed.

They are spinning Illinois as Romney’s final, long overdue breakout that spells then end for the conservative opposition to the liberal Romney.   There was a winner in Illinois last night and it was not Mitt Romney.

Who was it?

It was Rick Perry.

What?

Yes, that Rick Perry.  The Governor of Texas, who dropped out of the race months ago, still pulled over 1% of the vote.  Romney got roughly 428,000 votes.  Perry got almost 5500 votes.   Perry who is out of the race, who did not make an appearance in Illinois, who has endorsed another candidate, still pulled in 1% of the vote.

If the Republican establishment had any intelligence, and yes we are clearly assuming facts not in evidence for that statement, they would be pulling out all of the stops to ensure that Mitt Romney is not the nominee.

Illinois is a true foreshadowing of the disaster that will be a Romney nomination.  Romney finished the night with 47% of the vote.  Santorum had 35%.   Ron Paul 9% and Newt Gingrich 8%.  Non-candidate Rick Perry had 1%.

In order to win, Romney out spent Santorum 7-1 in the state overall and 21-1 in the Chicago area.

Mitt Romney’s great claim to fame is he is a business guy.  Bain Capital invested in companies and looked for a return on investment.  Let’s use that as a standard for the race.  Who is winning that way?  Perry had the absolute best results because he got a significant return on no investment.  Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich also invested little but got quite a bit for their investment.  Even Rick Santorum was a better investment that Mitt Romney.

This is the consistent pattern for Mitt Romney in his victories.  He outspends his opponents 5-1 or greater.  Even with that massive spending, he cannot break 50%.  Illinois was supposed to be that magic night where Romney broke the 50% mark.    He did not do it.

In Illinois, he had one serious challenger.  That was Rick Santorum.  Newt Gingrich spent little time and even less of his dwindling money in Illinois.  Neither did Ron Paul.  They had small but respectable showings.

More alarming was the poll from CBS News that showed over 40% of those who voted for Romney were not thrilled with their choices.  Why would almost 5500 Republicans vote for a guy who is not even running anymore unless they were sending a message to the party?

If the leadership of the party does not see the slow motion train wreck that is coming, they are not only blind but their brain cells are on the endangered species list.   If the leadership of the party is even thinking, they would realize what a disaster Romney is and start doing everything in their power to engineer a deadlocked convention.

In about three weeks, we will observe an interesting anniversary.  It will be the one hundred year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.  The Republican Party is like the Titanic, handing the keys of the ship over to Captain Mitt Romney.   The Party is ordering full speed ahead and we are about to hit a major iceberg.

The Republican Party is the Party of Reagan and Lincoln.  If we cannot find a good nominee to face Obama in the election this fall, we are giving the nation four more years of an anti-American Marxist.

If that happens, we will need to start looking for the political lifeboats and we may even have to start looking for some real lifeboats out of Obama’s America.

obama wins we should head for southern, northern borders, en-masse.

expatriate.

I don't think so Richard, this is my country and no orphan from Kenya is taking it away from me.  We will fight and we will keep fighting.  A shame is that there is no difference between the republican and democrat party so the good folks don't have anyone on their side, so we have to do the fighting ourselves as usual.  As a WWII general once said when his men informed him that they were surrounded by the Germans, he said good, now we don't have to look for the bastards.

When Barry the Blade takes our guns. We have nothing to fight with. It will happen early in his next term. That or take away the ammunition. I will sell out and say good-bye.

Yes, Romney really!

We should get sereious about defeating the marxist in the White Hood.  Santorum, although a good guy, simply isn't going to make it.  Now is the time to get behind a Romney - Rubio ticket.  I have been to two of the marches on DC -- it is time to organize another march to DC this summer to display the strength of the TEA Party

Marches do absolutely nothing!!! They laugh from the widows of the west wing.

You are correct Caleb, as fun as they are, marches generally do not accomplish much.  It still would be good to go to WDC again, only if we could go in mass with a million or more.  That requires a lot of planning and the Tea Party would have to get serious about it on all levels.

Caleb, You are right my brother. Marching is a colossal waste of our time & energy. I went to DC twice in 2009. It helped get us organized. Now is the time for a master builder to put together an alternative to socialism. We need to take the rough stones that are the tea party, and fashion them into the building blocks of a wall of separation between government and our free enterprise system. You fashion those building blocks by education, training, and organization; not by walking down Pennsylvania Avenue with flags again.

we definitely need to gather together again in D.C.  I, too, went to D.C. twice for the tea party gatherings and WOW!

The dems think we are dead...let's prove them wrong..........

Richard, you go get behind Romney.  I'll sit this one out thank you very much.

Spoken like a true Rhino. Richard

Too centralized.  Occupy Movement is in many places.  Learn from them   Willard will stab you in the back every bit as quick as Obummer.  Besides, the only places Willard wins are places he will never win in the general election.  Think he will win Illinois, Michigan?  Not a chance.

Its already over Judson. Mittens will lose in the general if we don't have a brokered convention to chose a better person to take on The Grand Potentate of socialism.
