As Rick Santorum tries to coalesce his position as the Anti-Romney candidate, he manages to attempt political suicide.

From the Hill:

Rick Santorum said that “America is suffering from a pandemic of harm from pornography,” and accused the Obama administration’s Justice Department of favoring “pornographers over children,” in a statement on his campaign website.

The former Pennsylvania senator argues that "current federal 'obscenity' laws prohibit distribution of hardcore [obscene] pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier."

“The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws,” the statement read in part. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum administration.”

What?

Where does this fit on anyone’s agenda?  IS this on anyone’s radar?  Where the hell has Santorum been for the last three years?

Let me give a disclaimer here.  I spent ten years of my career as a prosecutor.  I have handled obscenity cases as a prosecutor and seen some pretty disgusting things.   I have no sympathy for pornographers.

However, Santorum is a first class idiot for bringing this up.

This is not a winning issue for Republicans.  This is not an issue we even need to be dealing with.

People in America are worried about the price of gas, keeping food on their table and a roof over their heads.  People in America are worried about their jobs surviving.  People in America are worried about their country surviving.

Who in the hell in Santorum’s campaign thinks bringing this up is a good idea?

It isn’t.

Let’s ignore the issues such as Santorum being a big government Republican for a moment.   The fact that he would bring up such a losing issue in the middle of the campaign says a lot about him.

Gingrich has his faults, but none this dumb.  Romney, for all of his faults such as being a liberal, is not that dumb.

Does Santorum really want to simply lose?

While it is not fair, the simple fact is if Santorum runs on social issues he will be slaughtered.  He of all people should know what liberals do to conservatives on social issues.

If he continues to make such stupid remarks, the election is not going to be about saving America.  The election is not going to be about the economy.   The election is going to be about the perception that Santorum is the next Torquemada, and the Santorum administration will be the grand inquisition.

We don’t need to go from a big government Democrat imposing a socialist agenda to a big government Republican imposing a social engineering agenda. We need less government interference in our lives, not more.

Santorum should take a lesson from Bill Clinton.

“It’s the economy stupid.”

"Gingrich has his faults, but none this dumb.  Romney, for all of his faults such as being a liberal, is not that dumb."

This is classic, Judson, and all too true.

Oh let's see, Gingrich is so smart and clever and perfect that... no one is voting for him in numbers big enough to win. And Santorum, an unknown Senator from years ago shows up on the scene and is so stupid that he's winning lots of states all while being outspent 4-1 and going up against a big Romney machine. I see. Yea, he's stupid alright.

Says a lot about the voting public doesn't it Kristin?

But Santorum is an idiot who has no chance in the general election.

He is pandering to religious morons who want total control over our personal lives.

Richard - I follow the word of Jesus, not the word of Santorum or the Taliban.

Santorum is welcome to his personal beliefs and he is welcome to live his life according to all of the rules in the Bible.  He is not welcome to tell every other American how to live their personal lives.

Thanks.

Oh my gosh Steve, christians do not want total control over anyones personal lives. Who told you that?

By the way, I agree with your second statement, but your first statement sounds like you think people of God are morons.

Steve, i might be one of the "religious morons" you poke.  Lets not forget who the real enemy is here.  No matter what the contenders do, we stick together for America of the People, by the People, and for the People.  And last , but not least, ONE NATION UNDER GOD.  Failure to remember that will bring us down.  Come to think about it, we are divided, not one nation under God, since multiculturalism/pluralism, etc snd now which way are we headed?

I just get so sick of "social" conservatives telling others how to live their personal lives.  These people are usually not too smart, and jump on the bandwagon to persecute others just because they are told that this is what God wants.  They have given up thinking for themselves in favor of some form of organized religion.  That is what the crazy Muslims do and I want no part of it.

We don't ever need laws to regulate what consenting adults do in their homes.  They can answer to God, not the social police.

When I was young, I learned to worship the Lord and Mind My Own Business when it comes to the personal lives of others.

You know Steve, I don't see any "religious morons" proposing Agenda 21, which could very well take away your right to own private property, ripping apart our Constitution, or issuing executive orders that give them TOTAL control over your food and water supply. A bunch of "religious morons" got together and fought for that right to own property, carry guns, educate children, and give you the power to tell the "government morons" what they can and can't do.  They are the morons you should be complaining about, not people who want to train their kids to grow up honoring God and their parents, not to steal, commit adultery, etc.  I don't know of any "religious moron" who has ever tied anyone up, tossed them in a car and made them sit through a sermon against their will under the threat of penalty.  But that is exactly what that leftist "moron" in the Whitehouse is doing.  You will buy insurance or pay a penalty.  When your day of terminal illness comes, as it does to all those of us who are not killed first, I hope the death panels will be as gracious to you as the "religious morons" when you plead and say "no, I don't want this, just let me alone.". To not be offensive they say, "well, maybe you can go to church next time and walk away".  When you say, " no, this isn't right, I need treatment" they will force their will on you and say, "tough, you don't fit the profile to receive treatment."  No next time. So, do you own a home?  "Religious morons" want you to keep it.  Got a wife you don't want sleeping around?  "Religious morons" would discourage her from it. Got possessions you don't want stolen?  "Religious morons" discourage stealing.  Say Steve, how many times have you called being crushed by higher taxes thievery? Those darn "government morons" are in your personal paycheck - that is part of your personal life, right?  Tithing is a matter of CHOICE as far as whether you actually do it or not.  Do you hunt or fish, Steve?  I seem to recall something about needing a liscense for that.  Why don't you go down to the local church and see if those "religious morons" are the ones who issue them. That is also part of your personal life, right? Those "government morons" have dictated when and where you can hunt or fish and even, in some cases, what you can hunt/fish  and how many you can kill/catch. Gee, I thought God gave us those critters for food.  I don't recall any limit He set.  I think you are the idiot Steve.  The government is pandering to people like you who they can lead around by their uninformed noses, limiting and regulating them from cradle to grave.  Have you ever gotten a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt, Steve?  "Thou shalt not drive without buckling your seatbelt" is not part of the Ten Commandmants.  I agree with wearing seatbelts. I'm old enough to remember cars manufactured without them and the point is, it used to be a matter of PERSONAL CHOICE.  I don't think you follow the Word of Jesus very closely.  The Bible says that God is working in our lives to cause us to become like Christ. If you are calling us "religious morons" you are insulting HIM. If you follow HIs Word and call us "religious morons", what does that make YOU.  If you worship the Lord then you would want His teachings to prevail. You would understand that people who witness to others do so because there is a Hell to shun and a Heaven to gain.  It is an act of love so they find Jesus.  I follow no man, I follow Christ but if a man comes along who even remotely has any resemblence of any Christian ethic I applaud him and will seek to put him in office.  I am a "religious moron" and I would like to live in a country where God is big and government in microscopic.  If you don't want the same thing, I'm skeptical as to whether or not you follow the Word of Jesus as closely as you claim you do.  Go, Santorum, go. I'm a "religious moron" who is praying for you.  -Mark's wife, Linda

Kristin,

Your statement is a bit of an over-kill.

No one said Gingrich is perfect. He is smarter than Santorum though.

You have to admit Santorum does need to spend a little time discussing the current problems facing the majority of Americans. I do agree that our country has turned its back on God's principals and is in moral decline. If Santorum makes his campaign only about social and moral issues, however, it will be a mistake. I would hate to see him loose because of this. He has made the case that this is what he stands for, and we know he would uphold these things when in office. He has to start talking about what he can do for the current fiscal problems we have. Newt's lower gas prices sound real good to me about now.

Kristin--he does talk about both but the media manipulates and doesn't really want America to focus on his take on the fiscal issues.  But in an interview with Huckabee there is a bit that shows how most impressed Charlie Gasparino and Huckabee were at Santorum's economic plan--they could say enough good things about it (this was after all the candidates gave theirs).  We are being manipulated but as a Christian--it should be no surprise because God is the giver of wisdom--Reagan wasn't known for  his economic mind but look at what God did.  Same thing goes for Santorum and it is going to depend on WE the People to believe like George Washington , Ben Franklin and others did that with God all things are possible if you believe.  Santorum's life speaks volumes on acknowledging God and it's not just the economy-tell that to families who have lost children due to the social ills.  We are not just sick economically and if you don't put a God-fearing man in there --you can bet corruption will reign and nothing will change maybe worsen--as the nail to the coffin will be placed subtly, quietly under the guise of political correctness, anti-bullying, hate crimes.  Personally I pray Gingrich would like the great statesman he is --do what Bachmann did and help solidify the base behind the man who has won more states than he has--Santorum.  If he truly loves God and country more than ego--I believe he will and God can use him in a very powerful position.  Let's make this a two-man race a two issue race--true conservatives vs RINO and may God have mercy on us.
