As Rick Santorum tries to coalesce his position as the Anti-Romney candidate, he manages to attempt political suicide.
From the Hill:
Rick Santorum said that “America is suffering from a pandemic of harm from pornography,” and accused the Obama administration’s Justice Department of favoring “pornographers over children,” in a statement on his campaign website. The former Pennsylvania senator argues that "current federal 'obscenity' laws prohibit distribution of hardcore [obscene] pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier."
“The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws,” the statement read in part. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum administration.”
What?
Where does this fit on anyone’s agenda? IS this on anyone’s radar? Where the hell has Santorum been for the last three years?
Let me give a disclaimer here. I spent ten years of my career as a prosecutor. I have handled obscenity cases as a prosecutor and seen some pretty disgusting things. I have no sympathy for pornographers.
However, Santorum is a first class idiot for bringing this up.
This is not a winning issue for Republicans. This is not an issue we even need to be dealing with.
People in America are worried about the price of gas, keeping food on their table and a roof over their heads. People in America are worried about their jobs surviving. People in America are worried about their country surviving.
Who in the hell in Santorum’s campaign thinks bringing this up is a good idea?
It isn’t.
Let’s ignore the issues such as Santorum being a big government Republican for a moment. The fact that he would bring up such a losing issue in the middle of the campaign says a lot about him.
Gingrich has his faults, but none this dumb. Romney, for all of his faults such as being a liberal, is not that dumb.
Does Santorum really want to simply lose?
While it is not fair, the simple fact is if Santorum runs on social issues he will be slaughtered. He of all people should know what liberals do to conservatives on social issues.
If he continues to make such stupid remarks, the election is not going to be about saving America. The election is not going to be about the economy. The election is going to be about the perception that Santorum is the next Torquemada, and the Santorum administration will be the grand inquisition.
We don’t need to go from a big government Democrat imposing a socialist agenda to a big government Republican imposing a social engineering agenda. We need less government interference in our lives, not more.
Santorum should take a lesson from Bill Clinton.
“It’s the economy stupid.”

There will always be evil. It isn't what God wants but he gave us a free will and we are to choose.
I can't answer for the people in this world. I am only responsible for my own relationship with Jesus Christ. Then, I am to shine a light so that others can see it. They have to choose to accept him and serve him. Christ said to teach and preach his word, and if you have done that to no avail to wipe the dust from your feet and move on (something along those lines, didn't look it up).
Yes, we would be a blessed country if we all followed God's laws and principals to live by. We can not, however, force it upon anyone.

I believe it would be closer to the truth to say that the Left does not want us to legislate OUR morality, but does not mind at all if theirs is legislated. In fact, with abortion, gay marriage, and medical marijuana, their morality has definitely become law.
Philip,
Laws are more for the non-Christian...of which we have quite a few...to force him to adopt a level of behavior that allows him to live amongst civilized people. Practicing Christians are far less likely to run afoul of any criminal law. I am happy to have every bit of help from the government we can get toward producing a society that follows laws based on God's laws, whether they know it or not!

Although I agree that true Christians should not NEED laws, laws are indeed for everyone, including Christians. Not all "Christians" are Christ-like, and the spectrum widely varies from one Christian faith to another as to how one behaves. Some "Christians" would go so far as to bomb an abortion clinic, while other "Christians" protest against capitol punishment. Neither are Christ-like in my opinion, and yet I am a Christian.
This nation was founded by men who understood the Laws of Nature and Nature's God, and that concept was not only verbatim in the Declaration of Independence, it was the basis of our Constitution. Our current administration is waging war on these very principles.
I am not saying and have never said Rick Santorum is the answer to this crisis. I will say, however, he is the best answer we have to choose from at this point.

"When Attorney General Eric Holder should be prosecuting terrorists, he is wasting time and tax-payer funds by manufacturing baseless lawsuits against pro-lifers." (Matthew Staver, Liberty Council Action). This was in reference to the DOJ bringing another court battle against Mary Susan Pine, a pro-life educator and sidewalk counselor. Their first lawsuit was dismissed by Fed. Judge Kenneth L. Ryskamp. Under a conservative president, and his appointed Atty. Gen., this would never have happened. And without great organizations like Liberty Council, this battle would never have been won. Support a conservative for president, and support organizations that are out there fighting our battles.
Open mouth, insert FOOT!! Santorum can never beat Obama with independents pledging this moralistic attitude. We don't want a Sunday sermon, we know right from wrong and if he stays in this grey area he is toast. As a person, I like him, but as a candidate I get a very bad feeling when I hear him whine during his speeches. I hope everyone is taking this election as seriously as Tea Party members do and another idealogue is not the path to choose. God help us all.

but seriously i do not believe santorum can win. he may win southern states but he hasn't got a chance
in the general election.
Permalink Reply by Michael Koetting on March 16, 2012 at 12:30am Santorum never got any support from anyone who heard him in the debates, until so many dropped out that he was one of only a few choices. Had everyone else stayed in he'd still be at 2 or 3%. He won't carry 5 states. Haven't you seen his video about being against the Tea Party. The first day it started I went down under the arch in St. Louis on a cold Feb. morning. Santorum wasn't smart enough to figure it out from the start. He's not smart enough to win the election or be a good president. Romney is our best chance and we better get behind him. His healthcare stayed in the private sector. He has the ability to change and learn from his errors. Give the guy a chance. He sounds good in the debates compared to anything the "uh" an "ah" o'bozo can throw at him.

Yeah, you're right. Romney is a genius! I mean, he has figured out that if he spends between five and
ten times more money than any other candidate, he stands a good chance of winning more primaries
than he loses. Brilliant!! He has also came to the conclusion that people will tend to forget that he is
a moderate-to-liberal RINO if (and only if) he can divert their attention by continiously tearing down his
fellow Republican opponents with attack ads on the radio and television. Absolute genius, and so very
original!
As for Judson's article: Yep, Santorum has certainly committed suicide by saying something that needs
to be said. Stupid fellow!!! He should have stuck to the issues . . . like maybe starting a colony on the
moon, peopled by Americans!! Now, that would have been a winner! But, Rick is just too stupid to come
up with a verbal brain storm like that.
Gaaaaaaaaaaa!!
Semper Fi!
I'm with Michael. There becomes a point that this primary is either about winning in November or a complete fracturing. People are acting like Romney's base is Democrats when it is actually the moderate and independents we need in the general to win.
I've always been an All of the Above Guy. Romney has amassed the needed delegates to go from frontrunner to nominee if we want to win in November.
