Ritual Santorum suicide.
As Rick Santorum tries to coalesce his position as the Anti-Romney candidate, he manages to attempt political suicide.

Rick Santorum said that “America is suffering from a pandemic of harm from pornography,” and accused the Obama administration’s Justice Department of favoring “pornographers over children,” in a statement on his campaign website. The former Pennsylvania senator argues that "current federal 'obscenity' laws prohibit distribution of hardcore [obscene] pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier."
“The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws,” the statement read in part. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum administration.”
What?
Where does this fit on anyone’s agenda? IS this on anyone’s radar? Where the hell has Santorum been for the last three years?
Let me give a disclaimer here. I spent ten years of my career as a prosecutor. I have handled obscenity cases as a prosecutor and seen some pretty disgusting things. I have no sympathy for pornographers.
However, Santorum is a first class idiot for bringing this up.
This is not a winning issue for Republicans. This is not an issue we even need to be dealing with.
People in America are worried about the price of gas, keeping food on their table and a roof over their heads. People in America are worried about their jobs surviving. People in America are worried about their country surviving.
Who in the hell in Santorum’s campaign thinks bringing this up is a good idea?
It isn’t.
Let’s ignore the issues such as Santorum being a big government Republican for a moment. The fact that he would bring up such a losing issue in the middle of the campaign says a lot about him.
Gingrich has his faults, but none this dumb. Romney, for all of his faults such as being a liberal, is not that dumb.
Does Santorum really want to simply lose?
While it is not fair, the simple fact is if Santorum runs on social issues he will be slaughtered. He of all people should know what liberals do to conservatives on social issues.
If he continues to make such stupid remarks, the election is not going to be about saving America. The election is not going to be about the economy. The election is going to be about the perception that Santorum is the next Torquemada, and the Santorum administration will be the grand inquisition.
We don’t need to go from a big government Democrat imposing a socialist agenda to a big government Republican imposing a social engineering agenda. We need less government interference in our lives, not more.
Santorum should take a lesson from Bill Clinton.
“It’s the economy stupid.”

Actually porn is a huge issue period and I disagree that there is not a important political connection. In visiting with my priest once a few years back he told me that I couldn't imagine how many families in our small parish in the past 10 years have been affected. If you understand pornography as an addiction (it creates unrealistic sexual expectations that are usually never satisfied) and how it has played in the demise of the family unit, you would indeed understand that it is a huge problem. It is one more component that is helping us along the way into socialism by destroying all that is good, including God's gift of loving sex between the union of a man and woman. The only way our country will be restored is to deal with the underlying issues of why we are going down the wrong path as a nation.

don't be too sure. There are many Christians that are so fed up with this Administration and the decline of our moral society in general that his saying something about a "morals issue" that does not take headon...the Gay/Lesbian bunch, but still plants a flag that under Santorum's administration...the national scourge of evil will no longer be ignored by the White House.
There is no question that the top issues of this campaign must be jobs and the economy...two areas where Santorum has been far too "UNDEREXPOSE" and from that standpoint...you do have ask, "what was he thinking?" If her really believes that he can win only with the conservative Christian vote, he does not deserve to be elected anyway...

yes, why did Rick win the Reddest of Red States? Because the ARE concerned with the moral decay of America and the all out attack on the family. And the family, and women, are degraded and attacked by pornography. So we fix the economy while keeping a society, the likes of which even the Roman Empire never saw? Is America even worth keeping if that's the case? Go Rick! Stand for morality, because without morality, there is no freedom.

Kristin, we are at odds about whom defines Morality. It is not the role of gov. If you want to be thought of as Moral, i applaud you, but that doesn't mean I'm not Moral. It doesn't do anyone any good to ride the Moral Train whilst Priests molest children. If we cannot find morality in the nest of God; where will we find it?

I think we can agree that nekked women and child pornography are immoral. And our Founding Fathers seemed to think we needed God and morality, so there needs to be someone upholding the family and principles.

Agreeing with Kristin and adding: Priests molesting children is a straw man argument and not really relevant to a given society determining and establishing what is morally acceptable. It is also a deflection tactic of the left in that it represents a small and abhorrent minority of behavior. In our "slouch toward Gomorrah" we have defined morality downward. Since we still have freedom of speech, et al, (unless maobama is re-elected) we can choose to voice our opinion for wanting more morality rather than less. The left demand that we "stay out of their wombs and stay out of their bedrooms" and yet try to force what many of us perceive to be immorality into our homes and bedrooms by providing free condoms to school children and encouraging and counseling early teens to have abortions without parental consent. Do you think we are a better society now than prior to the 60's mantra of "if it feels good do it," (in spite of the consequences to others). Where does our moral decay slide end? It didn't end well for the Greeks or Romans. The price of the pain of suicides, higher cancer rates, higher STD rates, higher crime rates, higher divorce rates (which cause more of the previous list) only add to darkening malaise of our society, not to mention the financial toll. But.... let's ignore all of that and talk about the "ECONOMY"! Oh, wait... I just did.

Santorum is incapable of understanding this. He has received reinforcement for mouthing off about his planned Crusade in America; it's a loser idea. He's a loser. He wants to impose his Theocracy on us and I'm not buying it. Child pornography is sick, but adult pornography, a difficult thing to define, is not what the government should be doing. As you have said, we want the Gov OUT OF OUR LIVES. I'm so sick about what's happened to Newt and all the name calling and riduculing by virtually all the news, including and especially Fox News; I'm literally sick. I hope Newt can somehow pull it off. Thanks Judson for the piece.

Why do even conservative commentators this avoid one of the primary and "WINNABLE" issues of the day? The Obama sex scandal. Obama’s addiction with sex is a huge, huge issue. I call Obama the “Sodomy Pimp” - because that is exactly what he is. He is the biggest promoter in this nation of sodomy, of pornography, and of the entire sex-trade industry. Here we have Barack Obama promoting and pushing sodomy and pedophilia in every school in this country - even early grade school with the Kevin Jennings/GLSEN doctrine . He's promoting sodomy in the military, even telling the military chaplains to get out if they don't agree with him. He’s the biggest promoter of Planned Parenthood, which does everything they can to cover up underage sex trafficking, and in fact the entire sex trade industry.
When he got into office what did he do - he appointed as the Deputy Attorney General of the United States, David Ogden. Who Is David Ogden? He was the number one defense attorney for the hard-core pornography industry. For years he has defended Playboy, Penthouse, and PHE, Inc., the nation's largest distributor of hard-core porn videos and other sex-related products (including child pornography), as well as homosexual defense. What’s the result - the Justice Department is being controlled by the pornography industry.
So what we see here, is that Obama is indeed the biggest promoter in the country of sodomy, of pornography, of abortion, and of the entire sex trade industry. Pornography, obviously, underpins the sex trade industry in every area, is very much tied into to the homosexual agenda, and of course the abortion mills cover up the underage sex trafficking that goes on in this country.
We had Republicans spinning their wheels defending a phony charge on Cain, and even turning on him, when they just should've just turned it on the mainstream media themselves and say exactly who Barack Obama is.The Penn State scandal is just the small, small tip of a huge "liberal/progressive" iceberg.
Now consider a report from the Journal of Sex Research which noted that homosexual pedophiles commit about one-third of the total number of child sex offenses, even though they are outnumbered by heterosexuals over 20 to one. Less than four percent of the population commits one-third of the offenses against children!
In The Gay Report, homosexual researchers report data showing that better than 7 out of 10 homosexuals surveyed had at some time had sex with boys 16 to 19, and OUT Magazine's survey of it's "readers" had 73% of homosexuals preferring sex with minors over other men....the average preferred age - 11 years old!!
Or consider a study in Archives of Sexual Behavior, which found that of 229 convicted child molesters surveyed, “85 percent of offenders against males described themselves as homosexual or bisexual.”
This means that 2.5% of the people (gays) are committing 85% of the child molestations. That means homosexuals are 2125 times more likely to be a child molester than a heterosexual.
This IS the Obama-Jennings agenda.
The Economy IS an incredibly important issue, but it's the DEMS total lack of morality that is the foundation of socialism and their economic policies.
Evolutionary Socialism is the religion that they are very deeply committed to - Pornography is their "Icons", and Abortion is their Sacrament.
Don't try to sweep it under the rug.
This is why Santorum is winning.

Courageously and well said. What was one of owebama's first official acts as president? To fund abortion education for Mexico. He's the guy who supported the Bill in Illinois to be certain that BABIES (human life) who survived "botched" abortions would be unattended to be sure they DIED. obots will say this isn't true, but I listened to the nurse who spearheaded this fight. Partial birth abortion? He's for it! Anyone care to debate me on that topic? Can we talk about how the Wright/owebama church was a gay hook up and fomented racism? Can we discuss Rahm and owebama at the Man Country bath house? Is anyone going to ask the real reason that Reggie the Body Love was dismissed from the BO "staff"? Who can debate owebama better on moral grounds - Newt or Rick? Now there's a tough choice. Next we can discuss the ECONOMIC consequences of immorality.
