Ritual Santorum suicide.


 

As Rick Santorum tries to coalesce his position as the Anti-Romney candidate, he manages to attempt political suicide. 

 

From the Hill:

 

Rick Santorum said that “America is suffering from a pandemic of harm from pornography,” and accused the Obama administration’s Justice Department of favoring “pornographers over children,” in a statement on his campaign website.

The former Pennsylvania senator argues that "current federal 'obscenity' laws prohibit distribution of hardcore [obscene] pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier."


“The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws,” the statement read in part. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum administration.”

 

What?

 

Where does this fit on anyone’s agenda?  IS this on anyone’s radar?  Where the hell has Santorum been for the last three years?

 

Let me give a disclaimer here.  I spent ten years of my career as a prosecutor.  I have handled obscenity cases as a prosecutor and seen some pretty disgusting things.   I have no sympathy for pornographers. 

 

However, Santorum is a first class idiot for bringing this up. 

 

This is not a winning issue for Republicans.  This is not an issue we even need to be dealing with. 

 

People in America are worried about the price of gas, keeping food on their table and a roof over their heads.  People in America are worried about their jobs surviving.  People in America are worried about their country surviving.

 

Who in the hell in Santorum’s campaign thinks bringing this up is a good idea? 

 

It isn’t. 

 

Let’s ignore the issues such as Santorum being a big government Republican for a moment.   The fact that he would bring up such a losing issue in the middle of the campaign says a lot about him.

 

Gingrich has his faults, but none this dumb.  Romney, for all of his faults such as being a liberal, is not that dumb.

 

Does Santorum really want to simply lose?

 

While it is not fair, the simple fact is if Santorum runs on social issues he will be slaughtered.  He of all people should know what liberals do to conservatives on social issues. 

 

If he continues to make such stupid remarks, the election is not going to be about saving America.  The election is not going to be about the economy.   The election is going to be about the perception that Santorum is the next Torquemada, and the Santorum administration will be the grand inquisition. 

 

We don’t need to go from a big government Democrat imposing a socialist agenda to a big government Republican imposing a social engineering agenda. We need less government interference in our lives, not more.

 

Santorum should take a lesson from Bill Clinton.

 

“It’s the economy stupid.”

I think Santorum means well but the appropriate venue for this is in church and not the federal government. These things are better dealt with at the local level with local ordinances that reflect the culture of the locality. Like some of the other posts here stated if he feels compelled to do this he should bring this up after AFTER the election and we can hash this out THEN when we're done with repealing Obamacare, cutting federal spending, and many other things.

Rick Santorum is a very smart man, but why in the world would he bring an issue like this into the political mix now?  Hasn't he had enough trouble with the obviously contrived "Obama birth control issue"?  I pray God, that Newt Gingrich has the guts to stick it out till the convention and then stick it to Romney.  Romney is a clone of John McCain, only worse.  He doesn't even have McCain's military record to stand on, but both Romney and McCain are "closet liberals"!  I happen to appreciate the vision that Newt articulates and hope enough conservatives will wield any political power they possibly can to make certain that Newt is the Republican candidate.  We need to put Karl Rove, Dick Morris and the rest of the D.C. Rino elites in their place,  (under the bus) as they have no right to choose OUR CANDIDATE FOR US!

Santorum is a ideologue, in his own way he is more like Obama he wants everyone to live as he dictates. I hope Newt can pull through at least as V.P.

I believe Rick Santorum is genuinely a very nice man with good intentions and strong values. However, that is not enough to beat thugs and corruption in our government. He is giving ammunition to Obama at every turn.

Look how much time we spent on the Fluke issue, precious time taken away from solutions to save this country's economic disaster. If we give diversions to Obama instead of having him be on the defensive, he will win and we will lose.

The idea is to keep him on his toes and on the defensive at all times, so he can't wiggle out of discussing his failed policies. We must hammer away on that, Rick, not morality at the moment. Once there's normalicy in the country then, we could deal with other issues.

Newt, the voice of reason, please, please stay the course!!!

"Morality" is at the very heart of our Constitution and our Declaration of Independence.  It is at the very heart of the Conservative Agenda - true compassion.  We should NOT forget that.  Where else can someone turn in this country for the moral values that so many fought and died for - the marxist, liberal left?  Who has instigated and fomented the war on Christianity in this country and eroded our religious freedoms?  Even Jews and liberal Catholics are waking up to this.  No, I'm sorry, I must vehemently disagree.

However, this article and this whole discussion is a total canard worthy of the left and not of us.  This whole issue was planted by the maobama administration LONG ago.  Fluke is an activist and sought out Georgetown for this very reason.  Libiot SHILL Stephanopolous brought up contraception in a Republican debate months ago - while everyone scratched their heads.  But now we know that poor, poor, broke Fluke can get contraceptives for $9.00 per month.  (I'm sobbing!).  But we also know that she's vacationed in Spain and other expensive places recently with her rich boyfriend.  So what?  So instead of seeing this as a mistake, it has become a perfect lesson in the LIES and HYPOCRISY of the left - and it has backfired on them!  It has exposed the much more FOUL language of the left against people like Palin and Laura Ingraham. 

But, morever, Santorum DOESN'T bring this stuff up - he gets drug into it.  And then we can count on Gingrich supporters (like this blog) to make it an issue when Santorum actually does focus on the economy, jobs, et al.

Be that as it may, it WAS a set up by NoBama, and Rick walked right in to it. He COULD have done like Gingrich did, and said, with all the issues we have, you in the media want to focus on birth control and Fluke??? 'This shows how unconcerned you are about real changes in our government, the very real issues facing us" (paraphrase). The LSM is in the Obamanations pocket and will do what they are told like good little marxist propaganda machines.He could have brushed it off Like the Rominator did. But Rick took up the staged and trapped guantlet. A more experienced politician would have let it lay. And did.
