For the past forty plus years, there has been a civil war going on within the ranks of the Republican Party.   The establishment or RINOs are at war with the grass roots conservatives for the heart and soul of the party.

The fight has gotten more interesting in the last few weeks and the desperation of the RINOs is showing.

The first sign of desperation for the RINOs came at the New Hampshire debates.  The RINOs had tried to marginalize Michele Bachmann. She came from the back of the pack to be a contender with the great RINO hope, Mitt Romney.   Then came the crash of the establishment back up candidate Tim Pawlenty.   His disastrous performance in the New Hampshire debates was only topped by what can only be described as his creepy performance against Michele Bachmann in Iowa.  Had he gotten any weirder and stayed in the race, Michele Bachmann might have needed a restraining order before their next debate.

With Pawlenty gone,  the establishment’s sole hope is the deeply flawed Mitt Romney.  Then came Rick Perry, who joined the race and knocked Mitt Romney out of first place.

Romney’s establishment strategy has been simple.  Keep debates to a minimum.  Try not to make any mistakes.  Let the conservative candidates slice and dice each other until he is the last man standing.  The establishment has long used the strategy of letting conservatives divide their votes so the RINO ultimately wins.

That was a great strategy as long as he was the front-runner.   Now that he is not, that strategy no longer works.  So the establishment has been forced to go to plan B.

The establishment still needs conservatives to split their votes.  It is the only strategy that will allow Romney to win.  Liberals also like that strategy because they would rather Romney face Obama, because even if Obama loses, they will have a President who is content to manage big government as opposed to a President committed to reducing government.

Now, the establishment politicians are all calling for more conservatives to enter the race.  Karl Rove is all but slobbering at the feet of Sarah Palin, asking her to join the race.   A few months ago, he had nothing good to say about her.  Now, he wants her in the race.  Others called on Paul Ryan to enter the race.  Ryan wisely decided not to do so.

Two can play that game.  We need to encourage more RINOs to get in the race.  Jon Huntsman is in the race.  Run Jon run.   You may be a liberal Obama fan boy, but you take votes away from Romney.  Rudy Giuliani wants to get in.  Go for it Rudy.  He may have done a good job as mayor in NYC on 9/11 but conservatives are not going to vote for a mayor who is not only liberal on social issues but has been photographed in drag.   Run Rudy, run!  He only takes votes away from Romney, not from Bachmann or Perry

George Pataki, the former RINO governor of New York is thinking about running.  Run George run.   Same for Pataki.

The establishment folks are right.  There is room in the field for more GOP candidates.  And they should all be RINOs.  We can let the RINOs split the vote and for once, we conservatives can benefit from it.

Rick Santorum is my candidate.
I agree with Lisa.  Rick Santorum is my favorite.
I think Santorum or Pawlenty would have been good.
Santorum is not a good choice, considering his record on the issues: http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/rick_santorum.htm
Run Rick Run.  Same results as all the afore mentioned RINO"s.

At the Iowa Debates, Rick said (paraphrased):

"I voted FOR the Bill since I wanted something in the Bill... Sometimes, you just have to COMPROMISE"

Folks, we are in this MESS because of COMPROMISE.

Rick will be another Big Government Solutions Guy... almost as bad as Romney.  He has had waaaay too many years in Washington.

Judson, a very interesting post.  I had to read it twice to get all of it in my head.  United we stand, divided we fall.  Same song, same refrain, but a different tack.   Good job, and right on the money!
New Gallup poll shows Michele Bachmann closing in on Obama in general election, with one in ten Democrats planning on voting for Michele over Obama. The poll shows 86% of Republicans support Michele while 43% Independents and 11% Democrats support Michele. I'm proud to be a part of Team Bachmann!

But he thinks its OK for Iran to have nukes.

Do you agree with him, Laura B?

Well if you believed in the sovereignty of nations you would agree with him.  If you believed in American sovereignty you would agree with him.  You can't take sovereignty from one nation without taking it from all.  So they have nukes, big deal. Pakistan has nukes, yet I don't hear anyone crying foul over that mess.  What's up with that?  If you take our troops out of there, pull the restraints off of Israel, this would all be over by now.  They are more than capable of doing the job themselves.  Done it before, and pound for pound the IMF is probably the strongest force in the world.  People should try to understand sovereignty before they complain about other countries having nukes.  And don't give me the bull crap of were are a world leader, and we have the right to police the world.  Well If we do have the right, we don't do a very good job of it.  Many, many dictators are still out there.  It is an asinine position to hold.  Don't respect other nations' sovereign right to exist, don't expect people to respect ours.  There will be a time when we aren't the world leader, as much as everyone is so afraid of that.  It the natural cycle of nations.  Get used to it people.

Mikel, by whose law is it "THe natural cycle of nations". We've accomplished more in a

little over 200 yrs. than nations that have pre-Biblical establishment. No America's

exceptionalism does not follow the natural cycle of nations and I'm NOT getting used

to it nor is that suggestion even relevent. Perhaps you could share in Cuba, Iran,

Libya, etc. and enjoy their 3rd. world economies. I prefer America!

Are you trying to suggest that I am a socialist? You obviously don't know much about history if you think that somehow nations don't rise and fall.  Or that somehow there is not a country that hasn't had even a semblance of the success that we as Americans have enjoyed.  America is not as exceptional as you believe. We have been great in our time.  I just love people who find it easy to go with the flow, such as yourself.  Nothing is more frustrating then someone who is just lead by blind patriotism, and not rational thought.  Oh and since you mentioned the Bible, God says that he sets up nations and bring them down, mainly due to sin, Proverbs 14:34 is a good one.  How about the prophecy in Daniel 7.  Tell me again how it is that nations don't rise and fall.  Only a fool would be one who believes that nations haven't come and gone throughout history.
