Rick Santorum has been called many things over the long months of the presidential campaign.  How about this?  Rick Santorum, the anti-Reagan.

What could that mean?

Rick Santorum is certainly no Ronald Reagan, at least on some of his policies, but that is not what makes him the anti-Reagan.

Ronald Reagan was the great communicator.  He could say anything and make it sound good.   Rick Santorum seems to be just the opposite.  He makes some good points but too often makes a bad sound bite for a good point.

Most recently, he did that yesterday.  Trying to capitalize on the Romney campaign screw up of saying the campaign would be reset like an etch a sketch as soon as the campaign was over, Santorum said, "You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there.   If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future.”

Santorum was immediately pilloried for suggesting that Barack Obama would be a better choice that Mitt Romney.    Even Newt Gingrich piled on.

However, despite the gaffe by Santorum, he makes a good point.  Romney is scarcely any less liberal than Barack Obama.

Yes, Obama is an anti-American Marxist, but that is the difference.  While Romney probably would not unilaterally disarm America, and we hope he would not reveal some of our most important secrets to the Russians, Romney is as liberal as Obama in most policy areas.

Romney is the father of Obamneycare as Tim Pawlenty called him in during the early debates.   He gave Massachusetts cap and trade.  He raised taxes and increased welfare spending and when he had a chance to give Massachusetts residents a break on high gas taxes by suspending the Massachusetts gas tax, he refused.  He said he wanted to see high prices drive consumption down.

Anyone know who else has said something like that?

Barack Obama.

The point Santorum was trying to make was that we gain nothing if we nominate a Republican who is as far to the left as most of the Obama Regime.

He is right about that.

This is why we must fight Romney’s nomination and still find a way to stop him.   If Romney is elected, we will not see any meaning cuts in spending or in the entitlement sector of the budget.   Romney claims he will be able to manage it better.

No he won’t.

You cannot manage big government.  Either you dismantle big government or big government consumes freedom and prosperity.

It is an either or proposition.

Newt Gingrich understands this.   Although he seems to express it badly, it looks like Rick Santorum understands it too.

Mitt Romney does not and will simply keep America on the Barack Obama road to fiscal collapse.

What Santorum said was one of the DUMBEST things said in many a year. When I watched that I couldn't believe my ears. I have felt for a long time he wasn't smart enough to be President,he just proved me right. Sorry all you Santorum backers, but you have to admit that was just plain stupid. He has lost it.Even if he meant something else it still came out of his mouth the wrong way. I believe in Newt because he is smart.Everybody in republican race would be better than Obama. And yes Romney would be better than Obama or Santorum.Hope Santorum realize's he needs to pull out,and the voters need to tell him.

Fox News, as well as the other venues are "exploding" with Santorums stupid statement. Santorum is in a dream world, defending his EGO. He's DONE

The Tea Party has had four years to produce at least one acceptable candidate. A non-womanizing, foot in mouth, short fused, BROKE, obsessed with social issues. A pro-plan, logic, informed and maybe with just a tad of pro-CHARISMA! That's charisma that the capability to cross several demographics of America that adds up the numbers necessary to be elected. When you have almost every candidate hailing from the same party trying to appeal to the same minority sector of electorate and so desperate to do so they constantly make stupid general election busting comments. Take Ricky for example and his latest epiphany that Obama should be re-elected unless he is granted the GOP nomination over Romney he just turned off approximately three fourths of voters in his party. Surely there are five people in this country with brains and tact that can debate the issues like adults, leave out the b.s. that is distracting the entire process from the task at hand, and be able to tow an exact balance necessary to sweep the moderates and Independents off their feet. Is five too much to ask for? Okay, you're right it probably is so how about three? Three people in this entire country that can compete for the primary nomination without making complete fools out of themselves and embarrassing the entire country. I'll take my chance by not putting a complete ignoramous in the White House to continue America's demise so that in 2016 when the smart GOP candidates will be making a go for it the country will be once again be so disgusted by the GOP interim POTUS they'll swing back to the left extreme. 2016 will be 2008 all over again where the GOP candidates can't distance themselves enough from the last Republican President embarrassment they'll be fighting a losing battle. Does anyone really want a succession that goes like this....... Obama - Any of the current GOP candidates - Obama 2.0 again in 2016 until at least 2020. Do we have 8 more years to waste to get America out of this goop? I don't think we do. I do think we can hold ground for 4 more years of Obama to ensure the right candidate is in place in 2016. Don't let the "anybody but Obama" tunnelvision turn things into a bigger mess. Stop obsessing on Obama and start obsessing with getting the right people in Congress to make the 2016 Republican President as powerful as Obama was in his first two years. So I just realized that as scary as it is what I'm saying is I agree with Santorum but for an entirely different reason. Because none of these clowns, including "SANTORUM" need to go in now and dash all hopes for a takeover in 2016. That's exactly what will happen. This bunch is just not Presidential material so don't let them spoil it for those that are in 2016. Not a position anyone would wish for but it is what it is so the best must be made of it. This requires a little patience and vision beyond the next 12 hour rotating debacle these candidates are functioning under. They can't even get it right if an interview lasts over 5 minutes. Wait wait.....4:58....4:59.....Ding..... the stupid bomb drops with precision.

Romney is a gas bag and I think the folks are going to be disappointed if they think he will practice conservatism to bring the nation back from the ruin by Obama. It will be politics as usual as it was in Massachusetts and everywhere else Romney has been. It is incredible that so many supposedly intelligent voters will vote for Romney simply because he looks presidential. I am curious what a president is supposed to look like. It is what he is inside and what he does that should be looked at.

The reality is Obama would not bring up Romney's Mormonism. He is smart enough to know that criticizing or putting focus on an opponents religion turns off most voters. Particularly the vital moderate and Independent voting block. Those that would be impressed by such a ploy are not supporters of Obama and won't vote for him anyway. So what would Obama accomplish by trying to discredit Romney based on his religious affiliation? Discrediting himself?

YES THE PROOF OF THIS IS THE, STATEMENT G. SOROS MADE on nat'l TV. HE SAID bho and MITT WERE THE SAME. quote unquote. someone else said the only real difference is MITT HAS BETTER HAIR. yes their LIBERAL POLICIES ARE IDENTICAL. MITT WILL CONTINUE THE TRAIN WRECK obummer started. and THE ROMBOTS CANNOT SEE THIS. yes we need RICK TO KEEP RUNNING, AND NEWT TO KEEP RUNNING, and yes PAULBOTS KEEP PAUL RUNNING AS WELL. ROMBOTS PUT UR THINKING CAPS ON. read obumas ideas and read what MITT DID TO MA. same thing that is happening now TO THE USA all over.

Thomas, good will accept no facts. You can give him the videos, which I have and he will still deny that Romney is a liberal

Judson, good call! Next he will be telling us the earth is flat and that Christopher Columbus guy was just a lying opportunist.

People in Louisiana know the political facts. By golly, I might just move there! I received the following notice yesterday (Fri):

Tomorrow the people of Louisiana go to the ballot box, and Newt is gaining momentum at just the right time. Yesterday, Newt overwhelmingly won the Baton Rouge Tea Party straw poll with 53%, his second major Tea Party straw poll victory in Louisiana .

Here are yesterday's full results:

Gingrich - 53%
Paul - 25%
Santorum - 20%
Romney - 1%

I think at least half of the GOP voters that are going for Romney are doing so because they realize he has a legitimate chance in the general election. I think if they thought Santorum had a fighting chance he would be the clear front runner for the nomination right now. He's not and there is a good reason why. Either the GOP voters don't like him or they think nominating him will ensure Obama a 2nd term. What other reason(s) are there that explain Santorum running so far behind Romney in this primary? The majority of Santorum's votes are coming from the far right conservative and religious base almost exclusively. That explains why while he's not losing ground he's not gaining any either. Of course many will vote for Santorum in the general if by some miracle he wins the nomination but imo there will not be a sufficient amount of these votes to enable Santorum a victory over Obama. If Obama is to be defeated you have to go with the numbers and right now those numbers lie heavily in Romney's favor. The longer it takes for this reality to sink in with the anti-Romneys the further the pendulum swings in Obama's favor for a 2nd term. However unpopular reality may be in the minds of some ultimately it always prevails. Romney was conservative enough for Santorum to endorse in the 2008 primary yet now he claims that keeping what we currently have would be better than voting for Romney. Of course Santorum wasn't running for the nomination in 2008 which means Romney's conservative credentials are subjective and depend on one's persepective at a particular given time.

Don't the Romney shills on here understand that if Romney wins the election, he will be such a poor president that US conservatism will be wiped out and the people will vote democrat for generations?

Romney certainly doesn't provide the best contrast to Obama's policies but I believe that he can defeat Obama in 2012. Face it folks, people like "moderates" .The population, especially our youth, has been conditioned and brainwashed by the extreme left wing state run education system. What they didn't accomplish the media propaganda machine did. Hitler used a similar tactic when he developed the Brownshirts- people who were taught a perverted set of values and learned to follow what they were taught without question to ethics, morality, or what was right.

Maybe its not unanimous with this group, but Romney is receiving Tea Party support probably because people feel that anybody would make a better president than Obama and I cannot disagree with that. The TPP based out of California has always taken a left wing slant and they may be endorsing Romney. The TPE may also.

For Santorum to win the GOP nomination he must be able to get 77% of the remaining delegates. Romney needs like 40% of the delegate count to win. I am no fan of Mitt Romney but he will be the GOP nominee. At this point all we can push for is getting a Tea Party candidate as VP. IMO, Jim De Mint, Alan West or Rand Paul would be ideal. At least we will have a conservative watchdog and a voice in the Whitehouse. It is vital that Obama be defeated. At the very least I believe that a Romney presidency might save the supreme court from being overrun by progressives.
