There is yet another outbreak of Potomac Fever. For those not familiar with that disease, it is a terrible affliction, which fortunately seems limited to our elected Representatives. Symptoms include forgetfulness, particularly when it comes to promises to the voters. Another symptom is complete loss of sense of direction, including to one’s core values.
What has brought about this latest outbreak of Potomac Fever?
Business as usual.
The business as usual was the Transportation/Student Loan/Flood insurance bill that just passed. It passed by huge margins in both the House and the Senate.
This bill was another one of those massive boondoggles that we have seen repeatedly from Congress. It includes yet more stimulus spending. Say, how has that been working out for us for the last three years?
This bill busts the budget, provides more mandates, more spending, continues to fuel the student loan bubble and does nothing to stop Washington’s runaway spending.
Every year Republicans come back to their states or their districts to announce how conservative they are. Is it asking too much for proof of conservatism?
Every Republican, even the whacked out RINOs like Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins give lip service to cutting spending.
Is it asking them too much to start doing something?
Republicans are the best game players in the known and perhaps unknown universe. We in the Tea Party took them from the political endangered species list and put them back in charge of the House after the 2010 elections. What was our top demand?
We wanted Obamacare killed. We wanted it dead and gone.
What did the Republicans do?
They scheduled a vote of repealing Obamacare and immediately sent it over to the Senate where they knew exactly nothing would happen to the bill.
Then it was back to business as usual.
We wanted spending cut. John Boehner, who now promises to pull Obamacare out by the roots, promised $100 billion in budget cuts. In the end we had $352 million in cuts. That cut government funding for about an hour of government operations.
This past year, spending under Boehner’s watch actually grew instead of shrinking. All we saw was more Potomac Fever and more business as usual.
Only 52 members of the House and only 19 Senators voted against this nightmare of a spending bill. Some of the people who voted for it are generally good people. I have not spoken to any of them, yet. So, I am not going to condemn them based on one vote.
Unfortunately this is a habit with the Republican Party.
Last Thursday I participated in a virtual town hall with several Members of Congress. I told them point blank we in the Tea Party were tired of the Republican games.
I told them we were tired of Republicans going to Washington and announcing they were going to vote against something, and holding that vote knowing it meant nothing.
We want success.
The Obamacare vote is a classic example of Potomac Fever and the Republicans believing they can sell anything to the folks back home.
The Republican leadership whined after the vote that they only controlled one House of Congress and they could not make the Senate pass the repeal.
True they cannot.
But the same is for the Senate. All spending bills, per the Constitution, must originate in the House. The Senate cannot force the House to appropriate money. The President cannot force the House to appropriate money.
The Republicans in the House could have defunded Obamacare. They could have defunded much of the Obama Regime’s plans. They would have had to compromise to a point to get repeal, but they could have done something.
Of course fighting would have required John Boehner to grow a pair.
Unfortunately for America, the Republican leadership stumbled around like newly castrated cattle, waving Boehner’s freshly laundered white flag of surrender.
We are on the verge of another GOP tsunami this year. It will catapult them into control of the Senate and most likely Mitt Romney into the White House.
This is their last chance and it is America’s last chance.
Either the Republicans live up to what they say they believe or we will find a party that does.
There are a number of things we refer to as the American dream. One of the American dreams is that we leave our children better off than we were.
For the first time in my life I now seriously wonder if we will leave America a better place for my children. I wonder what they will have when they are my age.
Will there even be an America then?
If America fails, the lamp of freedom, hope and liberty will be lost to mankind. America is the greatest, freest nation the world has ever seen.
Our parents bequeathed us freedom and liberty as our birthright. Thanks to the far left and the Party of Treason, our children’s birthright may well be tyranny and poverty.
We can still stop this but the hour grows late.
Either our conservative politicians get over their case of Potomac Fever or we the people need to cure it for them.

Remove Boehner, remove Reid, remove Holder, remove Pelosi. These people are going to stretch things out until November when election fraud will re-elect Obama, and what are we doing? We are typing away.

Permalink Reply by Katie Kalpin on July 2, 2012 at 8:33am Right after the Obamacare TAX (Huge tax...biggest Tax in American History, during the great Obama Depression) I took down my American Flag. Now to be fair I was changing it out anyway that day lol. I bought a new one and it was Time to Retire the old one..I just couldn't no matter that I did it right, I just couldn't burn the flag as her Retirement. The guy from the Army came to get her so they could do it for me. JUST CAN'T BURN MY FLAG lol. When he got here he asked me if I had a new one yet. I told him I did, but that I just CAN'T seem to put it up, I can't wave a flag that stood for Freedom, Liberty and Justice in a land that no longer has those Morals. He smiled and Said to me...I just pray Ma'am that one day our AMERICA comes back to us. I am sure that we can find away out of that TAX. He smiled at me and told me...the Tea Party will win it back Ma'am..I had to agree. SOOOO Even our Military men and Women are counting on US to win America BACK!! So we MUST go boots down, if for no other reason...then becasue the heros that have kept us Alive and Free are asking us to. We do owe them in my mind! God Bless America and March on Tea Party!! We are the ones who can save America now!! :)
Permalink Reply by Grace Kirby on July 2, 2012 at 9:38am What a great story. And it is chilling that 'we, the people' so far have not done our part in fighting for our country. We give great lip-service to supporting our military. But in reality we have done nothing and expected them to alone give up their lives for our freedoms. This soldier's words should wake us up.
The term "Conservative Politician" has become a misnomer with the exception of a few I can count on my fingers. Morality and patriotism has been abandoned in the quest for ever more votes and reelection. Today conservatives face a vacuum of leadership as they grasp for straws hoping the the Republican party will provide a political solution to the Progressive ideology that is sweeping through our nation's capitol. Both parties have shifted left as the GOP now occupies the platform on which the Democrats once stood, and those Democrats have shifted yet farther to the left into a political arena once occupied by the communist party. The paradigm has shifted as now we essentially have but one political party with various but related facets, the Republicrats.

Permalink Reply by Katie Kalpin on July 2, 2012 at 9:27am Yeah now this I gotta hear lol. We all understand we are all feeling the pain as well. No arument from any of us I am sure. Might help us all feel better. :)
Newt was the only candidate who really knew what happens in congress, that's why they had to silence him. He couldn't be bought. Both parties sell out, compromise their principles and care only about fattening their own pockets.
I doubt there'll be anyone else in the near future who would have the Chutzpah to fight for we, the people. There are only a few people in politics who have been "Mensches" in the 20th and 21st century, Ronald Reagan, Sarah Palin, and Newt Gingrich. And they are hated most by the Marxist factions on both sides.
A Mensch is a person of integrity, a person who is responsible, has a sense of right and wrong without compromising those principles, a person other people look up to. Today, there are no politcians left who are like that.
We are licked, sad to say! I no longer trust anyone.
Permalink Reply by Kate Bowe on July 2, 2012 at 9:13am Agi, you are so right. I really had hoped that Newt would stay in and be a voice for the people, help guide, and just make his comments addressing the wrong going on. He could still lead. He wouldn't get any coverage would he.
This goes for Palin too. Where is she? Why hasn't she spoken up lately? We need them.
