In Kentucky, prison officials worried they would end up on Bill O’Reilly’s pinheads  segment being dubbed pinheads for what they have been dealing with.

Forget O’Reilly, I’ll create my own Pinhead’s segment and declare this the dumbest thing I have heard all day.

From The Tennessean:

A condemned killer’s fight to receive surgery for agonizing hip pain pushed Kentucky officials into an uncomfortable debate over security, politics and even the possibility of inviting scorn from Fox News pundits.

Emails and memos obtained by The Associated Press show corrections officials struggling for a year to reconcile their duty to provide medical care with the political ramifications of spending tens of thousands of dollars for surgery on a man they plan to execute. A key problem would turn out to be security issues that led several hospitals to balk at treating inmate Robert Foley, who still hasn’t had the surgery.

“Hip replacement for an inmate who has exhausted all appeals and will soon be executed?” Kentucky State Penitentiary warden Phil Parker wrote in an email on Nov. 22, 2010. “I can see this making Fox News on a slow news day, maybe even on a busy news day. In fact, I bet (Fox News host Bill O’Reilly) would love to put this in his ‘Pinheads’ commentary. Just a thought to consider before it goes too much further.”

Foley is no ordinary inmate.  He is Kentucky’s worst living mass murderer, having killed six people.  He is also considered an extreme security risk on death row.

But here is the lunacy of this whole story.  Here is a guy who is a mass murderer.  He was convicted by a jury and sentenced to death.  He has exhausted all of his appeals.

Even if he is given a new hip, for what purpose will it be?  He is going to get executed!

There are many law abiding citizens who need this kind of surgery who cannot afford it.  What the hell is the State of Kentucky thinking here?

Put him on painkillers and be done with it.

While we should not be cruel to those in prison, something is really wrong when they are getting better medical care than law abiding citizens.

REALY !!!!

totally agree, schedule the execution, feed him painkillers & then he won't hv. to worry about it anymore !!!! Save the taxpayers some money !!!!

I'll do the surgery for free.

And I'll provide the anesthetic, without leaving my home.

I'll mail him a rope.

Let me do the surgery.  I'm a highly trained postal worker  :-)

I have a better idea, Judson--

since he's exhausted the appeal process (including the US Supremes, I assume)  --  let's put him on the permanent painkiller already.  Makes more sense to me.

Bill

Push up his execution immediately!!

My sentiments exactly. Move up the date of his execution. Problem solved.

You know, that is the thing about Hell. It is never full. There is always room for more.

Execute him now.  Problem solved.

Yes. lethal injection soon.  Why is he still alive...costing tax payers all that money???  This should get to Fox News Bill O'reilly.

Ha!

You missed failed to mention the most fun part of the story, Judson! The liberal rag "Tennessean" seems mostly sympathetic!

Check out Judson's link to the Tennessean article.
