Occupy succeeding in killing jobs
For anyone who is paying attention, it is obvious those behind the Occupy movement are not only hard core socialists, but they have an agenda. They want to damage the economy and cause as much disruption as possible.
Now, their work is starting to pay off.
From the Daily Caller:
Police and business leaders in the very liberal city of Oakland, Calif., are pushing back against Democratic political leaders who have abandoned efforts to clear rioting protesters from a downtown park.
Roughly 1,600 protesters loosely affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement have announced plans to shut the city’s downtown area and its critical seaport on Wednesday, and accused the police of injuring one protester who is a military veteran.
Hard-line activists “are getting rewarded for their behavior, and the law-abiding folks, the taxpayers, the 53 percent who are trying to run businesses and promoting the community … are being put out of business,” Phil Tagami, a downtown business developer, told The Daily Caller.
The mayor’s inability to curb the protests, he said, “is a serious blow to not only public safety, but also to public confidence [and] our ability to lease our property, to have businesses operate without disruption,” he said.
The protests, he said, are “hurting not Wall Street, but Main Street.”
“Oakland is a town that has worked hard to improve its reputation … [it is] very multicultural, diverse and tolerant,” partly because it has a growing population of homosexual and lesbian parents who have fled San Francisco, he said. “Those who want to have a family move to Oakland,” he said.
City residents are also trying to push back against Oakland Mayor Jean Quan.
A group of nearly 100 residents has begun a recall petition charging the mayor with failing to protect the city, and with lacking a “rational solution to mitigate the chaos.”
In New York, at Wall Street, the Occupy Wall Street mob is finally costing people their jobs.
From Ny.Eater.com:
Marc Epstein, owner of the five-month-old Milk Street Cafe in the FiDi, says that he was forced to lay off 21 staff members earlier this week because the Occupy Wall Street movement is hurting his business.
DNA Info reports that sales at the restaurant have dropped 30% since the protests started. Epstein partially blames the police barricades that are in front of his cafe, but also the fact that there just aren't a lot of lunchers in the FiDi these days:
Now, Wall Street is deserted....The only people who walk down Wall Street are people who have to walk down Wall Street. It's transformed from a beautiful pedestrian mall to a police siege.
He's contacting the city about getting those barricades moved, but Epstein thinks his business could shutter in about three weeks if nothing changes.
Congratulations Occupy Wall Street. You are achieving your goals. You are costing people their jobs.

Permalink Reply by George Graham on November 1, 2011 at 7:20pm A platoon of Marines would indeed clear the street in probably less that one day. The only problem is using our federal troops for civilian law enforcement is a violation of Posse Comitatus. On the other hand, a constitutional militia under the control of the state's governor would have the same effect and would be entirely constitutional.
Most Americans only understand the phrase; “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,” while ignoring the preceding phrase, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state…”
The Founders didn’t say a militia would be nice to have. Rather they said, to paraphrase, if Americans want to maintain a system of freedom and liberty, a well regulated militia is necessary.

Oh, BTW, our National Guard is NOT the militia. Especially when they fall under federal control.
