Lucky for Muammar Qaddafi he has been an anti American tyrant for all of these years. Had he been pro-American, Obama would have been using all the forces at his disposal to achieve regime change.
As it is, Obama is sitting back, “studying” the situation. Fortunately, though by accident, Obama is getting one right.
The Europeans and the Arab league have proposed a no-fly zone. There is even discussion of intervention. Everyone making these proposals is assuming the lead actor in any of these actions will be the United States.
Fortunately, Obama is dithering on this.
The word fortunately keeps appearing for one good reason. As we say in the south, “we don’t have a dog in this fight.” Libyan rebels what to over throw Qaddafi and probably have him dance at the end of a rope. Surely Qaddafi rates near the top of the modern tyrants who needs to spend his last moments on the gallows. However, it is not our fight.
Fortunately, spring is coming so Obama needs to work on his golf game some more. When he is on the greens, he generally can’t screw anything up, worse than his chip shot.
America has no vested interest in Libya. America is however, in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the great depression. In fact, thanks to Obama, Pelosi and Reid, this may end up being the second great depression. We cannot afford another intervention.
Later this year, we will mark our tenth year at war. War is often an unfortunate necessity. When we are attacked, as we were on 9/11, we must fight back. Libya was not involved in that or any other recent attack on America. We have troops tied up in Iraq and now more troops in Afghanistan. A sizable part of the navy is going to be tied up with relief operations in Japan for the next few months.
Going to war is an expensive proposition. It costs men, money and equipment. We have lost a lot of all of that in the last ten years. Those wars may have been necessary but they were costly. We have a military that is stretched to the breaking point, that desperately needs new equipment and supplies and we have a regime that is desperately trying to gut the military. The last thing we need is a third war going on.
If Libya attacked America, that would be different. Libya has not. If the Arab League wants a no-fly zone, let them enforce it with pilots and planes from the Arab League. If the Europeans want to intervene, use European wealth and firepower.
Under the theory even a blind squirrel occasionally get an acorn, Obama has gotten this one right by not committing the US military to any action in Libya. He did not do it for love of country. He did not it for any of the right reasons. But the American military is not involved in Libya today and that is a good thing.
America has no dog in this fight.

In my opinion, America always has a stake in the fight against a dictator. The perfect model was the French support of the colonies' fight against against the English crown. And just look at what Qaddafi is doing to his own people ... using mercenaries to kill them ... keeping himself in power by murdering his own people. Without the French help, our fledgling republic would have been crushed. And now we should stand ready to pay back history by continuing a nobel tradition. Best always, John

But..... the only reason he commented at all was all the hysteria over his lack of leadership on this one. As Obama "baracketed" his NCAA picks, tsunami devastation and nuclear disaster loomed, and still does. Obama golfs, plays, and parties like it's 1969.....the man is not just detached, he's downright evil. Remember, he and Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan are buds with Qaddafi, and that is why he was loathe to react. Qaddafi will remember how Obama treated him this time when he finally called him out by name and he will pay him back, which means he will pay US back. Obama is not affected by the things that affect the rest of us. We will all pay for the misery this heretic has showered upon this once great nation.
