Tonight is a win for Newt Gingrich in South Carolina.
From ABC News:
Romney's front-runner status in South Carolina evaporated quickly as the former Massachusetts governor was hit hard on his reluctance to reveal his tax records. The controversy over Romney's experience at Bain & Co. also hurt him in the Palmetto State. Twenty-eight percent of voters saw it as a negative, a substantial number, especially when looking at the lower-income voters, among whom Romney got virtually no support.
Although he spent more money than the other candidates on campaign ads -- more than double what Gingrich spent, by some accounts -- Romney was unable to sustain his lead.
Romney, 64, has said he will release his tax records in April despite calls from his rivals to do so immediately. Gingrich, 68, released his Thursday. The former governor, however, revealed that he paid a 15-percent effective tax rate in 2010, which is considerably lower than other Americans with comparable wealth. The lower tax rate was, in part, because Romney makes much of his money through investments and speaking fees rather than employment.
Newt came back and won. As Fox News called it, it was the second time Gingrich had risen from the political dead.
For conservatives, this is a good night. Conservatives are coalescing around a conservative candidate. As the campaign goes into Florida, it will basically be two man race.
Yes, Ron Paul will still be there, but he doesn’t really count.
The really interesting question is how long will Rick Santorum hang around. He has finished a distant third in South Carolina and that should effectively kill most of his money. Santorum may limp into Florida but all he can really do in Florida is siphon off some votes from Newt Gingrich.
Rick Santorum needs to call it a campaign and endorse Newt Gingrich. The sooner we can put liberal Mitt Romney out of the race, the sooner we can work on putting Barack Obama out of the White House.

Permalink Reply by Timothy W. O'Leary on January 21, 2012 at 7:23pm Mitt faltered, he might have something to hide in the books, and then said he earned his own money, which is a lot of crap and everybody knows it. Daddy helped a bunch.
He was careful to not leave any evidence behind in Mass when he took all the hard drives and servers. hmmmm.
And it was refreshing to hear Gingrich tell off the creep from CNN.
We're hoping Gingrich will tell Obama off next.
I do not like the rise from the dead analogy, but if Gingrich is going to tuck in his chin and keeps coming out swinging, it might make the difference.
Of course a real candidate would be better, but a junk yard underdog with nothing to lose ain't bad either.

Any amount will help and be appreciated!!!
Permalink Reply by Doc Franklin on January 21, 2012 at 7:26pm I believe Newt won in SC not because Romney's hesitiation to release his records was so much of a negative, but because Newt finally exhibited the fire and the "I'm not taking this liberal PC crap anymore" attitude that all of us conservatives have been starving for, for the past 25 years. We are all sick to death of the Republicans complying with the Socialists phony PC indignation that the Republicans have bought into and cow towed to. If Newt has a take no prisoners, "I'm not compromising on conservative or constitutional issues", he'll bury Obama because most folks want this country to remain the land of the free and the home of the brave, as well as the economic powerhouse it has been that gave us the greatest standard of living in the history of humanity.

Permalink Reply by Donald Mack Flippin on January 21, 2012 at 7:51pm Doc,
You hit the nail on the head! I have been a Santorum supporter since Michelle
dropped out of the race, but now I'm looking at Newt in a new and different light.
I was a Marine; therefore, I'm always a Marine (ask my buddy, Ron), and like
with most Marines, Chesty Puller was my military hero. I want a man who will
represent me; I want a man who will bull up (man up) and tell it like it is! The
USMC did not get to be one of the most well respected military unit on the face
of the earth by cowtowing, bowing to foreign (enemy) leaders, and compromising.
We got there by kicking a**!! Gung ho! Go, Newt!
(P.S. If Newt ever retreats, he's dead meat! He's reached his first objective, and
that means one thing: CONTINUE WITH THE ASSAULT!!!)
{PPS: To all who loved fallen Marines, my prayers, my thanks, a salute from my
heart of hearts, and my most respectful sympathies.
To all who were disabled while holding up that red and gold flag with the Globe and
Anchor, I salute you, I thank you, I remember you, because . . . I am always faithful!)
Semper Fi!
Permalink Reply by Doc Franklin on January 21, 2012 at 8:10pm I am truly humbled and honored by the service to this Constitutional Republic that you and your brethren, "America's Finest and Best" have given in full measure. There is no higher service or more selfless act than risking your life for another. And no one does it with more loyalty, honor and pride than the United States Marines. I sincerely thank you and your brethren from the bottom of my heart. Semper Fi and God Bless and Keep You All!
Permalink Reply by Trisha on January 21, 2012 at 11:50pm As a woman I want a man with the guts to take the fight to the aggressor. My husband served in the Navy and we love the Marines! We know we have been attacked and sorely wounded and now is the time to go on the offense. How about a Gingrich/West ticket? Perhaps Gingrich/Bachmann?
Permalink Reply by Clarence E. DeBarrows on January 22, 2012 at 11:53am Donald: I admit I'm biased, but I count the Corps as, not "one of the most well respected military units on the face of the earth", but THE MOST WELL RESPECTED UNIT for the reasons you cite and gutsy guys like Chesty Puller!
Semper Fi,
Clarence
