Tonight is a win for Newt Gingrich in South Carolina.

From ABC News:

Romney's front-runner status in South Carolina evaporated quickly as the former Massachusetts governor was hit hard on his reluctance to reveal his tax records. The controversy over Romney's experience at Bain & Co. also hurt him in the Palmetto State. Twenty-eight percent of voters saw it as a negative, a substantial number, especially when looking at the lower-income voters, among whom Romney got virtually no support.

Although he spent more money than the other candidates on campaign ads -- more than double what Gingrich spent, by some accounts -- Romney was unable to sustain his lead.

Romney, 64, has said he will release his tax records in April despite calls from his rivals to do so immediately. Gingrich, 68, released his Thursday. The former governor, however, revealed that he paid a 15-percent effective tax rate in 2010, which is considerably lower than other Americans with comparable wealth. The lower tax rate was, in part, because Romney makes much of his money through investments and speaking fees rather than employment.

Newt came back and won.  As Fox News called it, it was the second time Gingrich had risen from the political dead.

For conservatives, this is a good night.  Conservatives are coalescing around a conservative candidate.  As the campaign goes into Florida, it will basically be two man race.

Yes, Ron Paul will still be there, but he doesn’t really count.

The really interesting question is how long will Rick Santorum hang around.  He has finished a distant third in South Carolina and that should effectively kill most of his money.   Santorum may limp into Florida but all he can really do in Florida is siphon off some votes from Newt Gingrich.

Rick Santorum needs to call it a campaign and endorse Newt Gingrich.   The sooner we can put liberal Mitt Romney out of the race, the sooner we can work on putting Barack Obama out of the White House.

I like Coulter, but she has a huge blindspot on this one. She is to be courteously ignored--but IGNORED!

Ms. Coulter is smart, but she is a huge RINO.

(The smartest man in the States)......

Here's the early morning scoop from Fox and Friends. They interviewed a congressman from TX, name escapes me, who has inside the beltway information that if Mittens loses in FL, the GOP insiders in congress will put Mitch Daniels in his place.

Just think how this would resonate with the DNC, total chaos on our side and Obama would breeze into a second term. The congress will not allow, we the people, to be victors. They have begun a destructive campaign against conservatives. I believe that knowing how much the good ole boys hate us, and have the support of the DNC, too, we may lose not only the campaign but our conservative wing of our party.

I know you are going to compare this to Reagan's uphill battle. However, this is unchartered territory and Reagan didn't have the hatred of congress behind him, since he was a governor thousands of miles away.

Now is the time to get Sarah Palin talking again. Too much time has lapsed since she was rallying our cause. She's the best to do this. It's the conservatives who are being walked to the firing squad and BHO doesn't even have to lift a finger.

As I said earlier, the GOP is really the DNC, now.

I watched Sarah on TV last night. She has lost her fire.

I think she is tired and doesn't want the liberals attacking right now. She has a young child and she is focused. I have a friend who's child is the same as Palins, it takes a lot of work. So I am sure that she is very tired.

Do you think it's because she was so severly beaten down or that she doesn't approve of the list of candidates?

She has taken a terrible beating--esp from the lame stream media--but I think she's still enormously courageous/influential, and when she's ready she'll fight tooth and nail for the eventual GOP nominee. Just hope she makes her wishes known before we have to deal with a GOP establishment-induced brokered convention, and I pray she, like her husband, choose Newt.

I think she or her family have been threatened.

Scary stuff, Agi. Thanks for the heads-up.

Coulter believes that if Newt is the nominee he will get all the votes of McCain but that is all.  The independents and Obama voters will hold their nose and vote for Obummer. She has gone off the deep end.

Agreed.
