Tonight is a win for Newt Gingrich in South Carolina.

Romney's front-runner status in South Carolina evaporated quickly as the former Massachusetts governor was hit hard on his reluctance to reveal his tax records. The controversy over Romney's experience at Bain & Co. also hurt him in the Palmetto State. Twenty-eight percent of voters saw it as a negative, a substantial number, especially when looking at the lower-income voters, among whom Romney got virtually no support.
Although he spent more money than the other candidates on campaign ads -- more than double what Gingrich spent, by some accounts -- Romney was unable to sustain his lead.
Romney, 64, has said he will release his tax records in April despite calls from his rivals to do so immediately. Gingrich, 68, released his Thursday. The former governor, however, revealed that he paid a 15-percent effective tax rate in 2010, which is considerably lower than other Americans with comparable wealth. The lower tax rate was, in part, because Romney makes much of his money through investments and speaking fees rather than employment.
Newt came back and won. As Fox News called it, it was the second time Gingrich had risen from the political dead.
For conservatives, this is a good night. Conservatives are coalescing around a conservative candidate. As the campaign goes into Florida, it will basically be two man race.
Yes, Ron Paul will still be there, but he doesn’t really count.
The really interesting question is how long will Rick Santorum hang around. He has finished a distant third in South Carolina and that should effectively kill most of his money. Santorum may limp into Florida but all he can really do in Florida is siphon off some votes from Newt Gingrich.
Rick Santorum needs to call it a campaign and endorse Newt Gingrich. The sooner we can put liberal Mitt Romney out of the race, the sooner we can work on putting Barack Obama out of the White House.

We are tired of these morons chosing our candidates and FINALLY we are saying NO MORE! Florida vote for Gingrich.PLEASE!

With Newt Gingrich's win in South Carolina last night, one thing has become increasingly clear: this GOP nomination process is going to drag on well into the Spring. While this will allow the eventual nominee, whoever he is, to be tested by fire and will help prepare him to take take on Barack Obama, it also distracts America from the most damaging thing about Obama: his record of abysmal failure!
We live in a country that is weaker than it was three years ago, and under Barack Obama the idea of American exceptionalism has never been more endangered. With gas prices doubled, unemployment through the rough, and trillions and trillions of dollars in additional debt, this failed President has put this country on a track to European-style socialism, chronically high unemployment, and economic stagnation.
While the Presidential candidates are keeping the focus on themselves, and Super PACs are ravaging the candidates with personal attacks, no one is happier than President Obama.
But we will not let the American people forget about Obama's failures! We are implementing a sophisticated 3-pronged campaign to remind voters of the damage done by the Obama administration. First, we are going to use our online expertise to unite anti-Obama voters and activate them for nationwide volunteer efforts.
We are also going to implement an aggressive voter contact strategy that uses direct mail, phone calls, and internet communications to remind voters of Obama's record. These communications will be highly targeted, not only into important swing states but also to micro-targeted households within swing communities. We will very aggressively go after Obama on everything ranging from ObamaCare to his radical cabinet and judicial appointments like Eric Holder, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor.
So we need to keep our eye's on the main goal...NOBAMA in 2012! So let's all agree on that as a reminder that we ARE on the same team. I am sure that once our Canidate is choosen..we will once again be on the same side :) God Bless America and let us allow Freedom to ring! :)

I believe just about everybody on this site whole heartedly agrees with you on that. The ultimate mantra has to be: ANYBODY BUT OBAMA!!! I have no doubt we will all unite behind whoever ultimately wins. We have no choice, it's either get rid of Obama, or he will get rid of the United States. Letting him win is not an option!!!

Look at their records folks! Romney-care, Gingrich 20 yr. push for universal health care (not private!), lobbying for Fannie/Freddie, climate change, bigger government education...
Why on earth would anyone believe a single word Romney-Newt say about repealing Obamacare, Dodd-Frank (which saved Fannie's fanny!) abolishing whole departments from these hucksters? They just want to control the money. Period.
Both of these guys are BIG government progressives.
This race is not over! I praise God that we still have one shot at nominating a decent, honest social conservative. Is he perfect? NO, but at least he's in the ballpark --- not on the bench with Pelosi and the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) or writing Obamacare from MA!

He has most of the right credentials to garner Conservative support, he is a shrewd and effective political operator who can adapt to the wishes and needs of his contituents...he would devastate Comrade-Imam Obama in any kind of debate format...he has a reasonable and well-prepared government reconstruction plan.
There is a role for Santorum in the next administration -- perhaps a new position to be approved by the Senate for overseeing the deconstruction of unneeded, unwanted and unconstitutional government agencies...I like Rick a lot on key issues but I don't believe he has the skills or persuasive ability to manage even a friendly Congress -- and he'd certainly buckle if he had to face a hostile Congress...
Newt has come a long, long way in this thinking since I first got to know him...I wish I could say Newt & I are friends, but he travels in a different league and our interactions over the years have been little more than peripheral to him -- but they've been very important to me...I've watch him grow and have paid close attention to the maturing of his political ideas...I think it will be very revealing to see how he reads and adapts to the growing popular demand for the return of government that is more aligned to the Constitution than we've had in decades...
This fight is not over...there is a long, long way to go till the August nominating convention...I think I'm going to enjoy watching Comrade-Imam Obama begin to self-destruct as he doubles and triples-down on his Leftist agenda in an effort to re-attach to his base of Progressive, Liberal, Marxist loons; and in so doing will detach further from the rest of us...
As for that other fella who's almost in the race...he's not worth a single electron more so I won't write about him...he's a loon and a loser.
FLASH.............South Carolina fires the first shot again...............Newt wins in 2012 and America is on her way to restoring Faith, Pride and Family back to Patriot Americans who know about the blood sacrificed not only for their sins but for this country's survival. I Love America and I have answered her call and I will do it again if I have to. Permalink Reply by Dennis L on I hope that this signals that Dr. Newton Leroy Gingrich (Newt holds a PHD from Tulane University) is on his way to challenging the evil enemy of this country and winning on election day. I could never support the two faced fake, phony and fraud named Mitt Romney who was born with the silver spoon in his mouth. Romney is a progressive elitist. His company Bain capital not only killed jobs but gave most of its politcal donations to the Democratic party. Isn't that strange? Maybe that's why the left wing media loves him.
Dr. Newton Leroy Gingrich comes from humble, barely middle class roots and is entirely a self made man. He has embraced traditionalist values and while he has made some mistakes in his life (that he fully admiited to) I do believe that Newt is the best choice for rebuilding the USA into a prosperous nation once again.
