Newt Gingrich’s improbably comeback in the Presidential race has taken another interesting turn as he has scored what must be considered one of the most significant endorsements in New Hampshire.

From CNS News:

New Hampshire's largest newspaper on Sunday endorsed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the 2012 GOP presidential race, signaling that rival Mitt Romney isn't the universal favorite and potentially resetting the contest before the state's lead-off primary Jan. 10.

"We are in critical need of the innovative, forward-looking strategy and positive leadership that Gingrich has shown he is capable of providing," The New Hampshire Union Leader said in its front-page editorial, which was as much a promotion of Gingrich as a discreet rebuke of Romney.

"We don't back candidates based on popularity polls or big-shot backers. We look for conservatives of courage and conviction who are independent-minded, grounded in their core beliefs about this nation and its people, and best equipped for the job," the editorial said.

Romney enjoys a solid leads in New Hampshire polls and remains at the front of the pack nationally. A poll released last week showed him with 42 percent support among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. Gingrich followed with 15 percent in the WMUR-University of New Hampshire Granite State poll.

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas posted 12 percent support and former Utah Gov. John Huntsman found 8 percent support in that survey.

Those numbers could shift based on the backing of The Union Leader, a newspaper with a conservative editorial page that proudly works to influence elections, from school boards to the White House, in the politically savvy state.

The value of this endorsement cannot be understated.  New Hampshire is all but Mitt Romney’s home state.  In fact, he owns a house in New Hampshire.  He made a major effort to reach out to the Union Leader to secure the endorsement.

New Hampshire is a must win state for Romney.  If Gingrich wins Iowa and then turns around a week later and wins New Hampshire, which is considered home turf for the Romney campaign, Romney will be on the ropes.  He has almost no chance in South Carolina.  If Gingrich comes out of the first three primaries with wins, the race will be over.

Romney knows exactly what this means.   While Gingrich has been very diligent in not attacking other Republicans, do not expect Romney to show him the same courtesy.

We are 37 days away from the Iowa caucuses and 44 days away from the New Hampshire primaries.

Hang on folks, the ride is about to get very interesting.

Be careful what you wish for, Newt fans. There's a reason the Birch Society video is popular. Facts are stubborn things. Newt is NOT the most conservative candidate, PERIOD! He still buys into the man-made global warming propaganda, has supported health care mandates, and in the last debate he mentioned the use of PPPs, public-private partnerships. PPPs are straight out of the UN's Agenda 21 playbook.

Stop this Birch Society nonsense already! Please!!

If it were nonsense, it would not be popular. Again, facts are stubborn things. I'm an anyone but Obama voter, for sure. I would gladly vote for Newt if he wins, but he is not the most conservative of the group.

This old nonsense is not popular, it just keeps being spammed. Present some facts.

Sadly Vern, the Birchtree video is factual.  And as I said before, perhaps the best place for these videos would be their own discussion forum so they wouldn't be presented over and over and over again.

Why aren't we looking closer at Rick Santorum?  He is a social conservative and political conservative.  He, to me, would be the very best candidate.  I just do not understand why he is not getting a lot of respect and attention.  Newt is a very smart man BUT I believe if he wins the nomination we will lose!  He has been in politics so long and he is part of the problem that plagues our country.  So many things...He was paid 1.6 million to consult Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac...UHHH??? Maybe they did not listen to him? He was for Cap and Trade and I guess now he isn't. He may not be calling it amnesty, but it sure sounds like it to me?  I want him in the Cabinet...but not our next POTUS.  Didn't he have "ethics" charges against him?  Wasn't he for a healthcare mandate?  Sometimes he appears very condescending.  Smart man who knows alot of history.  Of course...I would vote for him over who is in office right now.  I still wish it was Gov. Sarah Palin and Representative Allen West as VP!  I guess I can dream.  The social issues to me determine what a person is really inside.  It effects every aspect of their lives.   I guess I will go to his website where I heard he explains everything.

Why don't we listen to Santorum or Bachmann?  Because we are intent on commiting suicide.  These folks prefer the guy that paid a $300,000.00 fine imposed by the house ethics committee on his way out.  No one will ever point that out or his other maga faults in a campaign.  And he is a RINO in favor of CAP and TAX, gun control, amnesty of some sort, a health care mandate, the New World Order.  I didn't even mention the Bohemein Club that is a pagen/homosexual party held periodically that he has attended.

And why are you hashing the same stuff that has been said over and over again. The canadian that posted a few comments up said it all best. No Newt is not the most conservative, but he is not a rino and he can turn the country around. If he has the most support, then yes he should have every one behind him. Main goal: Get Obama OUT.

And, you are wrong about Newt being for gun control. Someone had a great link to all candidates views on gun control. Did you read it? You need to look at everything, and quit believing everything on this blog. That's what the canadian said, and he is right.

Newt had an A rating prior to 1995, then dropped to a D when he became speaker.  Gun Owners of America is the source.

Janet, Santorum and Bachmann are the true conservatives.  And that's why the Republican establishment hates them.

And Newt, his record alone as house Speaker is enough to make him lose the nomination.  Or at the worst make Registered Republicans not vote at all.

It's time for true conservatives who didn't abuse their power in office, by using Procedural Preeminence (according to congress.gov a record 57 times), and who actual cares about the country (instead of lining their own pockets are our expense).

As for Newt  on gun control, .......

Here are the facts I go by.

My assessment: Now that we trashed most of the candidates and those we like are way off the charts to realistically get the nomination, now what? We can't pine for the one that will never be. We are really in a bind.

Unlike some of you who don't listen to the other side, I need to inform you that the left knows perfectly well that the GOP and all its factions are in disarray and therefore are perfectly confident that Obama will win hands down because there is no one strong enough to take on his machine.

I have been with some of my husband's family this weekend who are mostly progressives, college educated and savvy, all agreed with this assumption. I've tried to tell you that the left sees, hears and reads what the right is saying and they pick up on our actions. What are we accomplishing here when there are all sorts of blogs being sent around for every candidate we talk about? Just step back and examine what we are doing. It's harming our cause instead of helping.

Just the fact that every candidate went on a roller coaster ride in the polls before they crashed, indicates how vulnerable we are, and the left is eating this up. If we lose this election, we are equally to blame. I have never seen so much twisting of facts as I have from us.

Perhaps we don't really want anyone to tackle the immigration problem, because it's not being done to your specifications, and in the next decade we can have the majority of our population as illegals. Perhaps, that is better for some of us.

I keep saying that there has never  been a president who wanted to tackle this and thus we kept our borders open for now all the terrorists to come through. Isn't it better to at least have a candidate who has a good plan of stopping that and enforcing exisiting laws than having a president who does nothing?

Once the border is sealed then we could attack the other propblem. But we want everything on the silver platter yesterday and instead we get an empty plate. How ridiculous!
