For Newt Gingrich, patience is paying off.
With other candidates now failing, it looks like Gingrich may be the one to stop Romney and save the GOP from political oblivion (and a second Obama term).
From the Hill:
Newt Gingrich has jumped to second place and Herman Cain has dropped to third among Republican voters' preferences for which candidate should win the GOP presidential nomination, according to a new poll. According to the McClatchy-Marist Poll, Mitt Romney leads the Republican pack with 23 percent. Gingrich is next with 19 percent, followed by Cain with 17 percent.
Ron Paul follows with 10 percent; the rest of the Republican field fails to hit double digits. The poll also found that a fairly substantial portion of voters — 17 percent — are still undecided on which candidate they want to win the nomination.
This the first significant drop for Cain since the reports broke about allegations that he sexually harassed a number of women while serving as president of the National Restaurant Association in the '90s. It also indicates that Gingrich is picking up some of those voters cooling to Cain.
US News and World Report also shows good news for the former Speaker of the House:
Newt Gingrich has edged out much of the competition and is tied with Mitt Romney for second place behind Herman Cain in the 2012 GOP presidential race, according to a new poll released today by CBS News.
Cain had lost some support over allegations of sexual harassment by four women, but he still clings to the top spot with 18 percent support, according to the poll. Romney, who has also slightly declined in support from earlier polling, received 15 percent support, tying him with an emergent Gingrich.
The poll, conducted from Nov. 6-10 surveyed 1,029 registered voters nationwide and 382 voters who said they plan on voting in a Republican primary.
The survey shows declining support for Cain among women and some conservatives. In a CBS News poll taken in late October, Cain was the top Republican for women, with 28 percent support. In the most recent poll, that had dropped to just 15 percent.
Gingrich's rise is buoyed in part by increased support from voters who identify with the Tea Party movement, showing an increase of eight points over the previous CBS News poll. Cain's support has dropped from 32 percent to 19 percent in that group, according to CBS News.
Gingrich, the former House Speaker, has turned in solid debate performances, often lecturing on policy and chastising moderators for their questions. His penchant for weaving historical references into his responses and criticizing the media have been well received by Tea Party conservatives—a group that has been groping to find a champion in the 2012 race.
Why Gingrich?
First, we in the conservative movement have one paramount objective. That is the defeat of Barack Obama.
Who can do that?
I love Michele Bachmann but I simply do not see her able to defeat Obama. Rick Perry? Forget about him. Ignoring policy issues for a moment, his famous brain freeze, following his other bad debate performances doom him.
Herman Cain? His incompetent handing of the sexual harassment hatchet job on him have done him in. Does anyone really believe that after the terrible way he has handled this crisis he could really stand toe to toe against the Obama machine?
Many conservatives are starting to realize that Newt Gingirch is the best candidate we have and the candidate most likely to defeat not only Mitt Romney in the primaries, but Barack Obama in the general election.
If we fail to defeat Obama, then we have lost and we cannot afford to lose.

Permalink Reply by DocHollywoodMD on November 12, 2011 at 11:08am Newt says He will shrink the Department of Education yet it was the American Communist Party that wanted a department of Education in the Beginning and if you check the congressional Record, you will see that Newt voted for it
Permalink Reply by DocHollywoodMD on November 12, 2011 at 11:55am Newt says one thing but is Voting record says something else..... Why is that? Shrink the Department of Education? Is newt admitting that He was wrong in taking directions from the American Communist Party to establish a Department of Education in the first place?
Just asking because I am confused over Newt... He says all the right things......Yet so did Obama in 2008 and that's why he got elected but did He keep his promises to the American public? So I guess my question is how can we as a Voter be sure that once Newt is in....... IF he gets in that He will keep his promises too?
Fair Question? I think so, after all What do you use to evaluate someone for office? Do you not look at ones voting Record, What he says, Who he associates with, What He has done, etc..... These are important and i bet each of us use these as well. I do.
I don't simply go out and Vote for someone because I think he is a nice guy.... Heck... The German people thought Hitler was a great guy too but look at history. Not saying that newt is.....It's just a way of EVALUATING A PERSON AND SEEING OF THE SPEECH MATCHES THE VOTING FACTS
Which ever way we vote.... each of us, "We" individually decide based on what we believe are the right choices for us individually where as liberals simply follow a leader blindly to the polls Baaaaaaaaaaaa all the way. Conservatives don't do that.
We are intelligent and we evaluate a person based on facts and then we decide. Heck.....That's the American way right?

All of the questions that you bring up need to be answered by the candidate to see if they either accept the way they handled this situation in the past or admit a mistake in judgement, would now do something different based on the information they have today. We all make mistakes. All of any legitimate questions regarding past voting records needs to be asked and answered for all candidates, IMHO. Then we will all know who is the best candidate to run again the fraud in the oval office.
Permalink Reply by KathleenSt on November 12, 2011 at 2:53pm Doc: let's see what he mouths for the debates.
Perhaps he is a new man and ready to make amends for past mistakes.
He gave an interview recently where he admitted the commerical with Pelosi was a mistake.
And, to be honest, I think he's the only one who can take on President Diaperman in a debate and show America what he really is -- a failure.
Then Americans will hopefully treat him like they do dumocraps and forgive him for any mistakes in judgement he made before (ummm.....his was not sexual misconduct so the forgiveness may not be there. Only the adulterous democraps get such forgiveness. We'll see.)
I'm betting on Newt for this race with possibly Cain in his cabinet (not necessarily a VP but in the administration)

Permalink Reply by Barry Gabrielson on November 12, 2011 at 10:45am Some of these questions regarding Newt's past are legitimate. I would like to see him answer these questions, try to understand the things he did or did not do. If he gets our nomination, I want him to sign a document that he will perform Tea party principals, smaller government, stop the out of control spending, obey the Constitution and the Rule of law, close the borders, remove illegal transpassers, remove all their entitlements, get rid of entitlements, reduce government salaries and perks, get rid of waste and fraud in government, how to gain jobs to reduce unemployment, make us energy independent, protect Israel, take out Iran Nukes, go after terriorists, high cost of medical insurance, etc. I want a detailed plan from all candidates as to how they will accomplish Tea party platforms, yes detailed plans. In the debates, all I hear is sound bites as to how to take care of problems. I want to see a detail plans. I want each Candidate veted so that we pick the correct candiate to remove the fraud in the oval office. We also need to take over the Senate, then we can make real positive changes to our country. Ovomit should not be allowed to be on the ballots of all 50 states until he can prove he meets the requirements to be President according to the Constitution. Some lawyer needs to sue him in court, to make him prove these ruquirements are met before placing name on ballot in 2012.

Permalink Reply by Barry Gabrielson on November 12, 2011 at 5:26pm You are correct brother Ron. Lets make the right choice this time around. No more RINO's like McClown.
I not this fraud out of office with his Communist friends. I want the best qualified candidate, not one I have to close my nose and vote. One with morals and values, yes Christian/Judeo values who believe in truth and justice. To hell with compromise and tolerance towards evil to not offend someone. Good trumps over evil, always. Good need to be rewards, evil punished. We need a Government that follows the rule of law and the Constitution, efficient, ethical and accountable to the Will of We the People. Time to bring back ethics and values to America, punish those who are lazy, expect and demand entitlements.
Permalink Reply by John A salter on November 12, 2011 at 11:22am After viewing numerous TV interviews of every person who has committed to running for the Presidency, I have found none who claim that they could teach citizens how to successfully save for their old age plus—
» fix Social Security for all young people paying into it; it is not a Ponzi Scheme as its funds were misused by Congress!
» restore good jobs for 10 million or more people in first 6 months or less of the next Administration
» solve the income tax mess, without eliminating IRS which collects all funds required to run government
» pay down a significant proportion of the national debt without defaulting any obligations
» end the illegal immigration crisis
» stave off the financial crisis of federal and state governments
» rebuild and restore our roads, bridges, underground utilities, all infrastructure where needed
» save family farms and all types of agriculture, end all GMO foods and plants that are so harmful to people
» save and enhance wildlife and its habitats, restore all natural habitats possible
» bring manufacturing of all kinds back to America where they were invented
» insulate the U.S. from foreign wars and strife, keep our nose out of other people’s business
» immensely strengthen our military at very little net cost to the Treasury
» improve our educational system to enormously benefit our youth
» lower gasoline prices to near $1.50 per gallon, use our own oil and other resources
» level the field of all legal systems for all citizens, end unfairness against the poorest among us
» put an end to inflation, print paper money only to cover the cost of government purchases of new gold and silver
These are some of the promises I make to you, American voters and non-voters alike, as an intended candidate for the Presidency of the United States. Do any of the more popular candidates make any such promises? I see no evidence that any of them ever think about these problems to any extent, which makes one wonder whether they have the good of the country at heart, or perhaps it is only to gain the grandeur of the White House. If I am elected President you will not be seeing me out playing golf or flitting around flying here and there for my own benefit and pleasure, as I will travel only where and when it is in the best interests of the nation. I will work diligently and successfully with our Congress to insure that our borders are secure, our financial problems begin to be solved, our people are gainfully employed and safe in their homes that are not being foreclosed or otherwise lost, that we take the best possible care of the injured veterans of foreign wars, and that all of us attain the highest degree of good health possible.
We need a program whereby all 18-year olds are invited to give 2 years of their life to military or civilian service to our country for which there will be benefits like the G I Bill for servicemen of WWII era. “Be Prepared” is my motto. Further, we need to teach our youth how to read English as early as possible and encourage their development by eliminating TV and other distractions such as rap music and foreign-language radio stations. Once we have eliminated illegal immigration, certain students can choose to learn other languages in their first five years if that is their desire. Also they and their parents need to be taught how to save and prosper from intelligent investing in American economy. Citizens should be able to invest as little as $20 monthly up to as much as they can afford in every Corporation operating in the USA, buying shares calculated up to the fourth decimal place, accumulated monthly, dividends buying more shares or portions thereof. Thrift in all things is also direly needed to be taught and encouraged.
In order to do these things and more for you, I must be invited to the Presidential Debates to be held in 2011 and 2012. This requires some financial support as well as wishful thinking. I estimate that I need a million people to donate $5 or $10 as I can not imagine spending a hundred million or more to “buy votes” in a political campaign. I may be willing to go to a few cities to make a speech if invited to do so, but to spend millions of dollars riding a train plane or bus going all over America seems to be excessive and unnecessary in this day of the Internet. If I am invited to be on the Presidential Debates 98% of the American citizens who witness it will know that I am the one they want for President, but they will not need to see me in person in order to vote for what I stand for, and what I am able to do for this country. My candidacy is not about me, but about you, the American people and future generations. I am willing to spend my declining years working to correct the past errors which will make all of us more secure and preserve our culture and our economy. I have no interest in making a future for myself, as at my age I have very little time for any future to come my way. My ambition is to know that the USA is finally in good condition and able to survive many centuries to come. While none of the politicians presently running for this high office are capable of correcting the errors mentioned above, and other problems, some of them may be quite capable of taking over once I have taken the country back on the right path, and have governmental and private enterprises functioning well and orderly. The main purpose of government actually is to protect our freedom and the rights and privileges of citizens in a normal society, not to provide that which we can and should provide for ourselves, the only exception being those few people who are unable to care for themselves. Those who are unwilling to provide for themselves will make their decision based on how hungry they become. Wounded and deceased war veterans and disabled/deceased in the line of duty local/State fire and peace officers should be cared for without stint as well as their families. This moral obligation, among others, we owe beyond argument. Where you agree or disagree please tell me about it. THANKS for reading and answering.
