For Newt Gingrich, patience is paying off.

With other candidates now failing, it looks like Gingrich may be the one to stop Romney and save the GOP from political oblivion (and a second Obama term).

From the Hill:

Newt Gingrich has jumped to second place and Herman Cain has dropped to third among Republican voters' preferences for which candidate should win the GOP presidential nomination, according to a new poll.

According to the McClatchy-Marist Poll, Mitt Romney leads the Republican pack with 23 percent. Gingrich is next with 19 percent, followed by Cain with 17 percent.

Ron Paul follows with 10 percent; the rest of the Republican field fails to hit double digits. The poll also found that a fairly substantial portion of voters — 17 percent — are still undecided on which candidate they want to win the nomination.

This the first significant drop for Cain since the reports broke about allegations that he sexually harassed a number of women while serving as president of the National Restaurant Association in the '90s. It also indicates that Gingrich is picking up some of those voters cooling to Cain.

US News and World Report also shows good news for the former Speaker of the House:

Newt Gingrich has edged out much of the competition and is tied with Mitt Romney for second place behind Herman Cain in the 2012 GOP presidential race, according to a new poll released today by CBS News.

Cain had lost some support over allegations of sexual harassment by four women, but he still clings to the top spot with 18 percent support, according to the poll. Romney, who has also slightly declined in support from earlier polling, received 15 percent support, tying him with an emergent Gingrich.

The poll, conducted from Nov. 6-10 surveyed 1,029 registered voters nationwide and 382 voters who said they plan on voting in a Republican primary.

The survey shows declining support for Cain among women and some conservatives. In a CBS News poll taken in late October, Cain was the top Republican for women, with 28 percent support. In the most recent poll, that had dropped to just 15 percent.

Gingrich's rise is buoyed in part by increased support from voters who identify with the Tea Party movement, showing an increase of eight points over the previous CBS News poll. Cain's support has dropped from 32 percent to 19 percent in that group, according to CBS News.

Gingrich, the former House Speaker, has turned in solid debate performances, often lecturing on policy and chastising moderators for their questions. His penchant for weaving historical references into his responses and criticizing the media have been well received by Tea Party conservatives—a group that has been groping to find a champion in the 2012 race.

Why Gingrich?

First, we in the conservative movement have one paramount objective.  That is the defeat of Barack Obama.

Who can do that?

I love Michele Bachmann but I simply do not see her able to defeat Obama.   Rick Perry?  Forget about him.  Ignoring policy issues for a moment, his famous brain freeze, following his other bad debate performances doom him.

Herman Cain?  His incompetent handing of the sexual harassment hatchet job on him have done him in.  Does anyone really believe that after the terrible way he has handled this crisis he could really stand toe to toe against the Obama machine?

Many conservatives are starting to realize that Newt Gingirch is the best candidate we have and the candidate most likely to defeat not only Mitt Romney in the primaries, but Barack Obama in the general election.

If we fail to defeat Obama, then we have lost and we cannot afford to lose.

HOW DO YOU LIKE NEWT NOW?

DO YOU STILL SUPPORT NEWT?

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HIS VOTING RECORD NOW?

IF YOU DO, YOUR NOT CONSERVATIVE BECAUSE IN THAT YOU SUPPORT NEWT, YOU BY YOUR SUPPORT SUPPORT HIS DOCTRINE FOR AMERICA.

I DON'T

Gingrich is the one to beat Obama also is the only one to get this fallen country out the big mess that Obama has us in and we had better vote for him for President if we want to keep our freedom.

I hate to see Cain not get it but I like Newt as stated before.  It's good to see a slow rise then a fast and furious rise.  When they come up quickly they tend to drop like a lead balloon.  But when they rise slowly they stay.  That way they have time to prove themselves and people can make an honest judgement on them that will last a long time.

Newt admits to mistakes.  He can learn.  He's a great historian and will not lead us down the path of destruction.  His plan worked when he was Speaker tho they give ol' Billy Boy credit for a good economy.

Just remember, the Primaries are when you fight to get YOUR guy in.  The General election is when you fight to get the other guy OUT!  So those of you who don't like Newt, think twice about that if he gets the nomination to go up against BO.

We aren't a country divided in half as they want you to believe.  At least 2/3 of us are Conservative which means if it's our guy against a Liberal we loose if the votes are split.  That is reality folks whether you like it or not.  Splitting the vote guarantees that 2/3 of the country will lose.  We need all of our votes in one basket in order to beat this monster and they know it!
