Newt Gingrich has a new strategy.  The question is should everyone get behind this strategy?

From the Washington Examiner:

With losses in Alabama and Mississippi, Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign has changed.  In the past, the campaign was about winning, or trying to win, or at least claiming to be trying to win.  Now, it's about keeping Mitt Romney from winning.

Gingrich no longer says he can capture the 1,144 delegates required to wrap up the Republican nomination.  Instead, he now speaks frankly about a new plan: Keep Romney from getting to 1,144 by the end of the GOP primary season in June, and then start what Gingrich calls a "conversation" about who should be the Republican nominee.  That conversation, the plan goes, would lead to a brokered GOP convention at which Gingrich would emerge as the eventual nominee.

"Our goal first is to keep Romney well below 1,000," Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond said an hour before Gingrich addressed a small crowd of disappointed supporters gathered at the Wynfrey Hotel.  "It doesn't have to be 1,000, or 1,050 -- it has to be below 1,100."  If Gingrich succeeds, Hammond continued, "This will be the first time in our party in modern politics that we're going to go to the convention floor."

On election eve, after a long day of campaigning, Gingrich relaxed on a couch at the Wynfrey and vowed to keep challenging Romney through the summer -- long after the primaries have ended.  If he can keep the former Massachusetts governor from hitting the 1,144 delegate mark, Gingrich said, "Then on the 26th of June, there's a real conversation.  We haven't seen in our lifetime a situation where you actually had a political process beyond who wins the primaries."  As he has several times in recent days, Gingrich brought up the case of Leonard Wood, the Army general who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1920.

We must stop Mitt Romney from becoming the nominee.  He is the most liberal Republican to be seriously considered for the Republican nomination in the last at least 50 years.

Romney, if he is the nominee, will destroy the Republican Party.   He will simply manage our decline.  He will not work for a conservative agenda.   He will not make major spending cuts, nor will he cut taxes or repeal Obamacare.

We need to look at a different candidate at the convention.  It is imperative that we have a conservative candidate who can beat Obama in the fall.   That candidate is not Mitt Romney.   Mitt Romney has been running for President since he announced he was not running for reelection in Massachusetts.   Even after seven years, Romney cannot convince Republicans he is the candidate.  That is because he is a liberal, not a conservative and Republicans know this.

We need to start looking for a conservative candidate who can break the deadlock at the convention.  It could be Gingrich or it could be someone else.  But one thing is certain, Romney is not the candidate the GOP needs or wants.

Please tell me how Newt is spiteful? You must be privy to his behind the scenes negotiations as we are not. He didn't force Perry out, the voters did. And that's why Perry and Cain are his ardent campaigners, because Newt forced them out, really??

I guess the adjective of spiteful refers to Newt because you see him as an old bag, whom many characterize that way. It would be wise, if you'd stick to the issues rather the characterizations.

For your information, Obama could wipe the floor with Romney. When Bret Baer of Fox Special Report interviewed Romney, he simply asked a question that has been asked before, that was all, and Romney became unhinged. Do you honestly think that would not happen under Obama's smoothe talking arrogance? Please, give me a break! Once Obama mentions that Romneycare was the blueprint for Obamacare, he will once again become unhinged. When Santorum accused Romney of that, he also became unhinged. His body stiffened and skirted around the issue. Romneycare is a sore subject to Mitt. You don't win debates that way.

Go back in history, when a candidate becomes defensive, or sweats under pressure, they loose the debate. It happened to Nixon when JFK won his last debate before election. If you don't study history, you tend to repeat it.

Newt has never lost his cool in a debate to another candidate, only to the LSM and even then he received a standing ovation. You will never find Newt becoming defensive.

Please point out all the bold visions that Romney has compared to Gingrich? I haven't heard it. He will develop it after he becomes president. Yet, Newt's plans for America can be found everywhere in writing.

The problem is that establishment politicians don't want their power and their earmarks lost and Newt promised to curtail it, and that's why he is hated. I, on the other hand, find a man like that a person with character.

The more the media and establishment hates him, the more I like him.

Gingrich is the only hope for Conservatives.  If Gingrich would run as a thrid party, maybe a Conservative Party (to the naysayers-let that help elect Obummer-he surely will win against McCainlike Romney), so what have we lost? The Repubs will NOT win!  A Third Party is the only hope because the establishment Rhino Repubs will CONTINUE to support one of their own.  A Third Party must start somewhere!  Why not with Newt?

Billy Amen, I second that, I third that - no more D@# Bush family members in office in the US government,  EVER!

Thank you John

someone with common sense

by the way Edie-- I type sometimes alot in bold caps to grab attention and easy on my eyes late at night

you certainly are judgemental

Thank you for the lesson--David-- I don't sit on my computer and learn computer etiquette - I work alot.

and as for having Edie's back -- unnecessary insult

Actually Gabby there is no reason not to know that, I work as well, yet I know the etiquette, heck most of here work and we all know it. So that's not an excuse, sorry. You are mad because you have yet too see that Newt knows what he is doing and how good he would be.One day (And you will never admit it.) you will see what a good man Newt is and you'll kick yourself for not being open enough to see it. But please don't pretend that you didn't know that all caps was yelling that is Obama BS. Just stop yelling at us for seeing who and what Newt REALLY is and you not so much. Romney is bad, Paul is insane and Santorum is not bad AT ALL! I want Newt but I also want Santorum. Sadly though there are too many like you who are unable to see the truth!

WHAT-EVERRR!!

Newt knows what is good for this country, and if he say's that this is going to work, then I am behind him 1000%!! He knows that mittens is nothing short of being a liberal and that he is going to hurt this Nation as bad as Omama is, there is a reason that Newt is doing this, it is because he CARES ABOUT AMERICA!

Kevin Kellogg, agree---time to rally behind the front runner and stop fighting each other.

Rush posed a very interesting hypothetical question, today. He stated that if gas prices were escalating still at the end of the summer, the economy tanking because of it, spending still running a muck, how could he save his presidency? What would he do to boost his popularity?

A simple solution maybe to attack Iran preemtively, thereby, claiming that in order to have a clear victory, we need to have a continuation of the present administration? Brilliant, isn't it? He wouldn't have to stop his drunken spending spree, can continue to pillage America and be the hero for taking out Ahmadinijad.

Think of it! He wouldn't have to call for Marshall Law and cause chaos on the streets. He would take the country over without revolution on our streets. This would be beneficial for our country. I am sure he would have a majority who would be gullible enough and vote for him.
