Name Games
The Obama Regime does things and sometimes you just look at them and wonder why? Sometimes you simply ask what are they thinking? They have done something that makes most people stop for a minute and ask why?
What have they done?
They have announced that a new Navy ship is going to be named the USS Gabrielle Giffords.
The question I have is why is a ship being named after Gabrielle Giffords and there is not one being named after Marc Lee?
We all know the story of Gabrielle Giffords. She was a congressman from Arizona who was shot by a lunatic. Her injuries were horrific and she has done a commendable job fighting back and trying to recover from the damage done to her by a lunatic.
Why name a ship after her?
She has no ties to the Navy, other than her husband who was a naval officer and astronaut. She never served in the Navy, much less in combat.
Why is she afforded the honor of having a United States Navy warship named after her?
Some have called Giffords’ fight to recover courageous. Courageous is a term that is over used in America. Courageous is not doing something for yourself, when you really have no other choice. Courage is putting yourself at risk for others.
Marc Lee enlisted in the United States Navy in 2001. He wanted to be a Navy Seal. By 2004, he had realized that dream. By 2006, he was in Iraq.
On August 2nd, 2006, his unit was in a vicious firefight with Islamic insurgents in Ramadi Iraq. Another member of Lee’s unit was critically wounded. Lee exposed himself to enemy fire twice, drawing it away from the wounded man and the team that was trying to evacuate him. Later that day, Lee and his men volunteered to go back out to engage the same Islamic fighters who they had fought earlier.
That day, Marc Lee took the lead to help protect his men and he gave his life for his country.
For his gallantry that day, he was award the Silver Star.
People like Gabrielle Giffords. People are horrified by what happened to her and want to see the best for her. Everyone wants her to have a complete and total recovery.
But in the end, she was the victim of a crime. That is terrible but that does not rate her the honor of having a Navy ship named after her.
Traditionally, the Navy names ships after people who were either heroes or at least rendered exemplary service to the nation.
The Navy has named ships after George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It is hard to argue those. The navy has named ships after Chester Nimitz, the Admiral in charge of the Pacific fleet during World War 2 and Dwight Eisenhower, who was not only the President but also the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe during World War 2. Again, it is hard to argue those.
The Navy has named warships after John F. Kennedy, George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford. All three men served in the Navy. Ford served in an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. Kennedy’s famous PT 109 was sunk and he displayed heroism in saving his crew and Bush’s aircraft was shot down over a Japanese held island in World War 2. Again, all of them have done something to merit having a ship named after them.
Admiral Hymen Rickover, the father of the nuclear navy, was one time asked why the Navy was now naming submarines after politicians instead of the tradition of naming them after fish. Rickover said, “Politicians have more votes than fish.”
If the Obama Regime were growing the Navy and this was just a stunt to get more money for the Navy, perhaps it could just be accepted and everyone move on.
It is not.
The Obama Regime continues to slash military spending.
Meanwhile, the question still remains. Why is the Navy naming a new warship after an otherwise unknown Arizona Congressman and not after the first Navy Seal killed in Iraq?

I agree wholeheartedly with your what you say Agi. It's been pretty clear for some time now that there is a deliberate effort to undermine and ultimately destroy this country. My only question is - why? What's the end goal here?

Juls, if you read BHO's autobiagraphy, "Dreams From My Father" and Dr. Dinesh D'Souza's book, "The Roots of Obama's Rage", it will become crystal clear why he is intent on destroying our country. Couple that with Obama's handler George Soros, who makes his billions on destroying economies to buy up everything left over.
I just heard on one of my radio shows that his other cohort Buffet will be making billions on the failed Canadian pipeline. Why, because it will not be competition for his transport and sale of coal. He also makes big money on all the bailouts Obama creates for him.
These are all evil people benefitting only themselves, either with money and or power.

By the way Dr. D'Souza is also the president of King's College in NYC, a Christian based conservative school for international political studies. Can you imagine an entire school with conservative young people with core values?....unheard of! Check it out.

Pure Politics - and NOTHING more.
It was the "knee jerk" reaction that "The Obama" and His like minded Cronies did not give a thought to the possibility of namimg the Vessel after The Navy Seal.
The Seal simply does not play into the grand political scheme of the Obama Regeme.
And Hey, He is "military", The Looney Left have only condesending contempt for Those in Uniform at best. At worst, contempt.

BHO is only doing what he was chosen for some years back: destroy America, abolish her pride, honor, tradition, founding principles, family unit, military heroes, replace morality and constitutional laws with unlawful and illegal trashing of Constitution, corrupt gov'ment, just to name a few....but all in the communist manifesto. I fear we won't still be America by Nov.2012.
Question: Why didn't Giffords respectively decline the honor?

The comment about Buffett and his coal transport got me thinking.
I was in Europe(Just discharged there, 61) when the Berlin airlift started. Come to think, that may have been earlier. Man, it's a bummer when the years fold into themselves.
ANYWAY The point I'm trying to make is the Allies supplied Berlin by air for a considerable time.
RELEVANCE With a bit of planning Buffett could line up tankers on his tracks and carry the Canadian crude to Texas by rail. We could get so many tankers lined up that there would be trains after trains. I did a vague run through about costs and they are about even.
SO Why isn't this already being used. Could be they don't want cheap crude in Texas. Why? Oh boy, this is a sticky wicket.

I have an epiphany, Obama wont be around to much longer to cause America any more of his and all his Cohorts to even give him time or space on our computer for conversation about the trash.
