Voting starts today in New Hampshire in the first Republican primary.   The drive by media is still trying to convince us that liberal former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is the preordained winner.

Can Romney win?

He can win New Hampshire.   He might win the nomination.  He will not win the general election.

Why?

The conservative base of the Republican Party will not come out for him.    It does not matter that Romney can attract the establishment.   The establishment may write him a lot of checks, but it is the conservatives who get out and are the boots on the ground.  It is the conservative activists who get out and put the signs out.  It is the conservatives who come in and man the campaign offices.  It is the conservatives who take the time out of their lives to do phone banking.

On Tea Party Nation, we just finished a survey.  The questions was, “If Mitt Romney is the GOP Nominee, I will:”

  1. Vote for him.  61.97%
  2. Vote third party.  13.53%
  3. Not vote for the Republican nominee.  12.8%
  4. Write in a candidate.  11.7%

In short four out of ten members of the Tea Party, which is the conservative base of the Republican Party are not going to vote for Romney if he is the nominee.

When a candidate cannot even consolidate the support of his own base, how is he going to win the general election?  The simply truth is Romney is such a flawed candidate he cannot win the general election.

I have received emails from people, some of them very nasty, saying if I do not support Romney, I am giving the election to Obama.

That is completely wrong.

By supporting Romney, you are giving the election to Obama.

Romney is a terrible politician.   The only reason he has all of the experience he has in the private sector is because he could not get elected.   He lost in 1994.  In 2002, he ran for the governorship of Massachusetts.   In that election, he could not get over half the vote.  He only got 49%.  His Democrat opponent only got 45%, with the rest being split among third parties.   Romney’s approval ratings were so bad that he did not run for reelection.

So this is what the Republican establishment wants to give us.  They want us to get behind a failed liberal politician who cannot consolidate the base.  They want us to get behind a failed liberal politician who will be decimated in a general election against Barack Obama.   In short, the establishment wants us to lose again.

These are the same geniuses who gave us John McCain last time.

The answer is simple.  We need to say no.  We need to consolidate behind one conservative who can beat the liberal Mitt Romney now and beat Barack Obama this fall.

excellent analysis, Barbara, & thank you for your example.  Al-Q wants to destroy the USA & Israel, & there are many other arab terrorist groups out there...

We now have a government that has taken on the actions of Hitlers Germany. Our government has passed laws that make the entire USA a battle ground with S 1867 only seven out of all the senate never voted for it! Three republican three democrats and one independent this scares me a lot more than Islam at this time! Our government has gotten so large it will soon be out of control if not already! This might well be the last election we are allowed to vote in at the rate our own government is changing our constitutional laws and bill of rights.  Our own government is a direct danger to the entire world. 0ur government has done more to spread Islam in the last three years than Islam has done on its own in the last 50 years. What we need is less government if for no other reason than to curb it's effect on the world and the rise of Islam! Only Ron Paul has taken the stance of less government with a firm commitment of rebuilding our country. We have become a merchant nation buying everything from the world economy building nothing for ourselves. If we are to continue as a republic we need to become strong as a nation through business. At present we have hand cuffs on all industry through our government agencies who have killed all business through legislation and regulation. Free enterprise is no longer free its pay your carbon tax or close your doors, Hire under skilled labor to meet your minority quota or loose you government contracts, and close your doors! Our government has become the largest supplier of jobs in this country fast becoming a dictatorship because of a government out of control in spending and growth! Your only worry is Islam,? Let them kill one another in the sands of their home without our interference just as they did for the last thousand years. Ron Paul is not about to let any other country invade this country nor is he going to be the play ground monitor for the world and all its people. We have overstepped our bounds way too often in that regard. We have made the entire world rich with our technology and our industries and we are hated by the world and most of its people. Why continue in a duty as big brother only to be hated for it? Possibly, if the world were to see just what it's like without us, they would give thanks for our efforts, rather than try to kill us!

I respectfully disagree with your statement that Paul "is not about to let any other country invade us.....and you ask your only worry is Islam?" Are you kidding?

We don't need to be invaded from the outside. We already have enough radical cells in this country to wipe us off the planet. How dare Paul tell Jay Leno that the only thing Michele Bachman does is hate Muslims. He blamed the Americans for 9/11. And that doesn't bother you sir?

Well that bothers many of us. If he can claim that Michele only hates Muslims, than I can accuse Paul of being an anti-Semite when he flippantly throws Israel, our ally, under the bus and would never lift a finger to help them, in case, they may need it. Is that the way you treat friends?

Try to convince idiots of your view, which we are not here.

No, I am not kidding, are you telling me you buy into this whole war on a word thing? Have you seen soldiers marching in our streets? Fear mongering will not serve you or anyone else. Speak softly and carry a big stick, last I looked we have a big stick so what's the worry? As long as this government can keep people like yourself, all worked up and afraid of the invasion of the boogie man, they can use you and that fear to pass loads of laws to further their own agenda. Just look at the laws that have been passed during the last 27 years, 4 presidents all passing bills into law with the same agenda think about that for a while. Two republicans and two democrats both passing the same kind of bills into law all with the same agenda. I fear this government not a terrorist with a towel wrapped around his head and a bomb in his underwear.

In the end, it doesn't really matter which candidate wins. The difference will be, after elected, they will at least listen to us when WE speak, unlike the clown we have now.

Agi - You are correct.  We must coalence to pick one candidate and defeat Obama.

Todays Gallup Poll: Romney 30%; Gingrich 18%: Santorum 17%.. ( Add 18% and 17%, you get 35%.. If that is NOT called splitting votes, I dont know what is).. Their 35% beats Romneys 30%.. Its time we unite, people... There is a thread on Free Republic about the Gallup poll, and many comments on there about uniting around one of those 2, or Romney will win it.

Shirley,

Huntsman and Perry are about to take a swan dive!  They are both desperate.  They have latched onto Romney's "I like to fire people" statement like it actually is relevant to something.  Actually, I rather like to be able to fire people who don't do their jobs, too. Evidently, Perry and Huntsman would rather let them sit around on their thumbs.

Their number will almost certainly go toward Gingrich when they drop out.  Should be any day now!

You heard it first on Tea Party Nation!

If the Tea Party pushes hard enough, I see either Perry breaking the mysterious roadblock to his nomination or the convention getting thrown open for new business! (and what then God only knows!)

Feel free to blast my argument and give me some other more useful direction!  Meanwhile, what I see is, sadly, Newt has confirmed my fear that he has not matured enough to be a competent President, nor has Santorum.  Paul is a useful spoiler as long as he doesn't go Independent.  I don't know Huntsman well enough to be sure he'd be any better than Romney, and there are way too many out here who don't want to be McCained again!

Governor Perry rings so true to me that I am truly puzzled why Coulter blew him off - unless she's been bought by the Rove/Morris "establishment crowd" that keeps ruling Perry out.  How can there be any further doubt that we are not only fighting an immature Marxist in the White House but a beltway boycott against anyone upsetting a lucrative applecart?

Why aren't we hearing from DeMint about all this?  I expected sometime back Palin would come out for Perry and wonder why not.  Is it possible if we all send money to Perry, bombard DeMint, Ryan, West and other demonstrated conservatives to endorse him and get back out on the corners with our flags and Perry banners we can save this nation?

Just get on board to get rid of obama.  Romney can do it. God bless America.

Newt is the only one who can beat Obama because he is the smartest  and has the intestinal fortitude to do what it will require to get our countyr back to the ideals that made this country great. Wake up--people we cannot afford another John McCain type candidate--haven't we learrned our lesson----It's time for common sense with gloves off. If we want to win Newt's our man.

I completely agree. Who is that conservative candidate that you suggest that we all get behind? I haven't seen him or her.Only Ron Paul is a real conservative, but most of you think he is an isolationist. Well may be that's exactly what this country needs. We need to mind our own business. How many wars have we had since WWII? None of them Declared wars. How many of those wars have we wone? None of them. Just the loss of life of thousands of good people for nothing not to mention the cost. So outside of Ron Paul who the media has painted as an old fool, who would you suggest?
