The Washington Times is usually pretty good, but they really blew this one. They claim that Romney is now getting Tea Party support. The writer for the Times either didn’t know better or engaged in some creative writing. Among other things, he claims that Freedomworks has dropped its opposition to Romney, something that Freedomworks denies.
The Times in its blatant desire to see Romney as the nominee claims that Freedomworks launched the Tea Party movement. Ignoring the fact that is not true, I don’t think even Freedomworks makes that claim. They did help organize a big DC rally in 2009, which was one of the most impressive rallies held, but the movement launched months before they became involved.
The desperation of the Romney crowd to get him anointed as the nominee is becoming disgusting and desperate. It reminds me of the bum’s rush a used car salesman gives a customer so they will buy before they realize how bad a deal they are getting.
And we are already starting to see this.
On CNN this morning, Romney’s communications director, one Eric Fehnstrom announced that once the primary was over, Romney would be “resetting.”
HOST: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election.
FEHRNSTROM: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.
Restart it all over again?
In plain, non-RINO English that means as soon as the primary is over, Romney is going to move far to the left. We will see the real Romney. We will see the Romney Massachusetts saw and did not like for four years. We are going to see what we will really be getting with the Massachusetts liberal.
We are not going to like it.
This is going to be 2008 all over again, except this time it will be worse. Romney has ignored the conservative base and has made it a point of trying to win without the base. He has done this because he had a huge money advantage. He has outspent opponents anywhere from 5-1 to 21-1 in the Illinois primary.
Romney advisors have already said, despite Romney’s promise, he is not going to repeal Obamacare. Now we have someone in the Romney campaign basically saying he will move to the left as soon as he is absolutely certain he has the nomination.
It is not too late to stop Romney and this is what we must do.
We must support both Gingrich and Santorum. Neither can win at this point but they can still stop Romney.
While I do not speak for the Tea Party, I think I have a pretty good understanding of this movement and I believe this movement does not support Mitt Romney.
Romney is not an anti-American Marxist like Obama but beyond that there is little difference. If elected he will govern from the left and destroy not only the Republican Party but also the conservative movement.
This is why we must act to try and stop him at the convention while we still can.
I think you are beyond insanity. I am the head of a 912/Tea Party group and we have the sense to be for Romney. So does the Tea Party to the north of us in Madison County Ill. They defeated every Democrat in that Democratic stronghold in the last election. I was at the Romney Town Hall meeting in Illinois Saturday night, waving the TEA party flag and Romney acknowledged it with sincere gratitude. He sounds 10 times more presidential than Santorum who, on video, opposed the TEA Party movement. Haven't any of you seen that. Santorum's only claim to fame may be that he has more gaphs than Joe Biden by the time the primary is over. Newt wants to put 13,000 people on the moon in 10 years, when he's campaigning in Florida. If you can't see threw these two clowns, you need to start over. Romney has sounded very conservative every time I've heard him. Almost everyone makes liberal mistakes when their younger and changes. My God, he was in a state with a legislature that was 85% Democratic. I was raised a Democrat and voted for Bill Clinton in 1992, and now I'm as conservative as you will find anywhere. I have the sense to realize o'bama is the EVIL that has to be stopped at any cost, even if that is Romney. The other two don't have a snowball in hell's chance. Has Newt paid off the $250,000 Tiffiny Jly Store is trying to get him to repay yet? You want to nominate a guy who buy's the ex-mistress $250,000 in jewlery and then doesn't even pay the jewlery store? Yeah, he'll get thru the campaign unhampered for sure. Wake up or you'll wake up some November morning to 4 last years for America. Romney WILL repeal o'bamacare. I am, like others I've noticed lately, becoming increasingly suspect that this is a left wing site set up to make sure obama is re-elected. Many of the things I read here are not true. No souce ever for the lines like "many inside now say" which "many" and who did they "say" it too?????????? Never a source - time to say good bye.
It's quite the dog and pony show. In the end what difference will it make. IF we have an election it will be the most highly contested election yet. And then what do we get when it all over? Another politician who promised the stars and the moon when on the campaign trail, but when reality sets in, and it always does, the only difference will be whether we speed up or slow down the road of progessivism we have traveled so far along already. Once we hit rock bottom then maybe collectively we can pick ourselves up and remap our future..
Had Romney won the Senate seat he lost he'd still be there today...so his argument about Santorum being a career politician is not all true...might as well leave NoBama in there to finish screwing things up for 4 more year cause it surely won't be any different with Romney...but then again I still love my freedom(s) what's left..
It's not enough to be AGAINST someone, the Tea Party needs to really be FOR someone! He must be Smart, have a PLAN,
and be able to KO the Bozo in debate! That person is Newt Gingrich. He has a proven record with budget balancing, more-
over, he has clear pro-American values. He has mostly run a Positive campaign. That alone is something to get excited about! We certainly don't want someone whom the lib. dems like, for heaven's sakes.
Folks, we need to get behind NEWT now!!!
Although the Freedomworks story may not be entirely accurate, that doesn't negate the fact that TEA Partiers are now supporting Romney over Santorum. All of the exit polls, from all sources that I have been able to find, including FoxNews, showed that Romney was beating Santorum among both those who "strongly support" the TEA Party and those who "somewhat support" the TEA Party.
Most TEA Partiers are probably realizing that it's all over. We've lost and we won't have a conservative in the White House. So they're now voting for the winner, in order to get the also-rans out of the race, so the also-rans won't continue to do damage to the nominee. It's self-defeating to continue to bash the nominee now. It only helps Obama and serves to make the losers look petty and vindictive.
Romney only needs 48% of the remaining available delegates and he has won 54%, up to now, and that has been in contested races. But speaking of contested races, with the exception of Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Texas, the rest of the states are primarily Romney territory and even Texas votes so late that by that time, Santorum will be out of the race.
It does us no good to bash our own nominee, just because our favored candidate didn't win. My candidate (Bachmann) lost some time back. It was tough to see that. But I got over it. It's now time for the rest of Republicans, whose candidate didn't win, to do the same. Romney is going to coast into Tampa and nothing that anyone says is going to change that now. Unless he gets struck by lightening, Romney will be the GOP nominee. We have to focus on Congress now.
I hesitate to reply as you very much like to name call but I'll give it a go. Looking at the way the primaries have been going and seeing the information coming out of the exit polls I wonder if Santorum can't pull in the GOP base, if he can't unite the GOP, how is he going to pull in the moderates and independents in the general election? He seems to have a rather narrow appeal within the GOP. Even with democrats voting for him in open primaries to hurt Romney he is having trouble putting this away. Not looking for a fight here just wondering about the train of thought that puts Santorum as the only candidate who can defeat Obama.
I have a democrat friend who will vote for any body but Obama and he saw Romney speak and likes what he said so he may win the majority vote in Orlando In Jan he got the straw poll vote from the tea party people so romney must have something going for him My son loves ron paul
I DO NOT SUPPORT MITT IN THE LEAST, other than obuma HE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST CASE SCENARIO. STOP HIM ANY WHICH WAY WE CAN. GINGRICH/SANTORUM TEAM UP AND STOP MITT. "KEEP RUNNING" steal his votes right up to TAMPA CONVENTION. NOMITT/NOBAMA PERIOD.
I agree Thomas S Wright
IT AIN'T OVER TILL ITS OVER. NEWT 2012.
I take newt he is the best debator we have out there itis the womanizer that got him in trouble
It wasn't Newt's womanizing that got him in trouble with conservatives. It was his liberalism. Amnesty. Fairness Doctrine. Dept. of Education. National Endowment for the Arts. Support for individual mandates in HillaryCare, RomneyCare, and ObamaCare. Global Warming. Carbon Caps. GATT. NAFTA. WTO. And the list goes on.
Newt wanted to debate BHO on his terms, but failed to mention that if you want to debate a sitting president, it will be on his terms. Besides, outside of a debate hall, Newt falls back seriously. He's just got way too much liberal and moderate baggage. Actually, they all do. It just that Newt has more.
