Republicans, at least some of them are now having Mitt-mania since it appears now that Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee.  They are now gloating over Romney as the next great conservative savior.

Haven’t we been down this road before?

Actually, we have.

In 2010, Scott Brown ran to replace Ted Kennedy in the Senate.  He was the 41st vote that would break the Democrats’ super majority in the Senate.  The Tea Party gathered around Brown and when he won, euphoria swept conservatism.

Some people immediately compared him to Reagan and “Scott Brown for President” graphics appeared on FaceBook.  Some of us who had been around the political block before were not nearly as excited.

We knew what we were getting.

Today, Scott Brown is a reliable crossover vote, who often sells conservatives out in the Senate.  As he runs for reelection, he is gathering almost no Tea Party support.  While conservatives would prefer him to Elizabeth Warren, we are not falling all over ourselves to help him like we did two years ago.

The same is true for Mitt Romney.

Some of those who are suffering from Mitt-mania have been trying to compare Romney to Reagan, noting that Reagan governed a liberal state too.

The difference is, Ronald Reagan had a conservative track record before he became governor.  Mitt Romney’s record was that of a liberal.

With Mitt Romney, we will not have taxes cut, nor will we have spending cut.  The next four years will be the status quo.  If he gets the chance to appoint a Supreme Court justice, think someone along the lines of David Souter instead of Clarence Thomas.

If the Supreme Court does not strike down Obamacare, he will make the same effort John Boehner has made to repeal it.  Namely, none.

As bad as Romney is, Obama is worse.  Most conservatives, including myself subscribe to the ABO theory.  Anybody but Obama.

This fall, if Romney is in fact the nominee, I will go into the voting booth with a nose clamp, a large bottle of Mylanta, and probably a barf bag and vote for Romney.

Voting for Romney is truly the lesser of two evils.   Instead of good things happening, all we can say is they will be less bad under Romney.

The only good news is if we can get some good conservatives in the House and Senate, they can moderate Romney.

But let’s make no mistake about what we are getting.  We are getting a Massachusetts liberal.  This is how he acted before he was governor.  This is how he acted when he was governor.  This is how he acted after he left the Governor’s office.

He is better than Obama and this is the year of ABO: Anybody but Obama.

Well OneCitizenOfTheRepublic you are one of the ones that voted for Obama and are going to do it again this year.  How Sad!  It just amazes me that you say you love your country but will not vote for the Republican nominee.  We have who we have and Romney will not be anything like Obama.  One rules with hate and the other with love of Country.  Every time I get on here and read it is nothing but bashing Romney because Newt didn't get the nomination.  I hope you will change your mind but if you don't we can mark you in the Obama column!

these anti Romney people are mired in hate and delusions. Thank goodness the majority of us are not.

Mickie, I don't believe the nomination has been won by anyone yet, and with Rick's withdrawal from the race there are a lot of delegates up for grabs. Right now, if the TEA members and conservatives will stand by their candidates (like everyone should have done from the start), the convention will be brokered, and it is anyone's guess who will be able to take it. But, you are right, the bashing needs to stop. A person can disagree without bashing each other or the candidates. I don't personally "like" Mitt, but he is far more conservative than Obama (that doesn't mean he is as conservative as Newt or Paul). And not all of his plans are bad plans. I don't want to have to vote for a candidate I didn't want, but, in the interest of nation, if Mitt does receive the nomination in Tampa, I will vote for him. I won't hold my nose, because in the end it will be the right thing to do. If Newt get the nomination, I will sing all the way to the polls, knowing that a much more conservative man will be being elected. And, IF for some reason Dr. Paul receives the nomination, however doubtful, I will vote for him.

One Citizen,

I am appalled at your post. When it comes down to the wire if we don't vote bo out, our country will sink deeper

than it has to date.  You sound like a child that cannot have his favorite toy.

Go ahead and give your vote to bo, but you will see patriots doing what they should.  We will unite and vote this

damned thing out of office..You best do something to turn your head around, get it on straight and do something

good for your Country while we can.  Ya know Citizen, we do need your help.

foolish..this anti Romney angst is old.

"WORK TO PUT AS MANY CONSERVATIVES INTO OFFICE AS POSSIBLE...SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN WHO WILL VOTE IN ACCORD WITH CONSTITUTIONAL, CONSERVATIVE, CHRISTIAN VALUES..."

You hit the nail on the head.  The Presidency is a big project--one we have to keep working for.  For now, ABO.  Pushing for a good Conservative VP, like Allen West, is an investment in the future.  In the meantime, we need to change Congress, in as many states and districts, as we can.  Congress writes the laws and makes the budget.  Romney, if he is the president, won't resist Conservative change.  He wants to be president.  He has never said he wants to lead us to an ideological goal.  A Conservative Congress can lead him.

We need to work for Conservatives anywhere we can.

Agreed we must strengthen the house and take over the senate until we have a veto proof majority

You are suffering from the Tyranny of Perfection.

Your "Perfect Candidate" will never arrive on the scene and have the money and political support to get elected.

You say, " I will work against Obama, but I cannot in good conscience vote for a socialist."

There are NO "AGAINST" VOTES in the system.

To vote AGAINST someone, you have to vote FOR another candidate ON THE BALLOT who can WIN.

That's the way the system works, the simple math that you don't understand.

A vote FOR Romney works as a vote AGAINST Obama.

A vote FOR a minor party candidate (Libertarian, Constitution, Green, etc.) is a wasted vote which only splits the vote and elects Obama.

A vote FOR Mickey Mouse is  a wasted vote.

I am sure you can understand that NOT VOTING is a wasted vote.

Try to understand the simple math which demands your vote for a major party candidate who can win.

John:

"PERFECTION" MY ASS !

WE CANNOT GET ANYONE IN OFFICE THAT ARE NOT "LIARS, THIEVES AND WHORES" !

THE "TEA PARTY MOVEMENT" WAS NEVER ABOUT A "PARTY" OR AN INDIVIDAL BUT ABOUT "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA "CONSTITUTION' AND ITS "RULE OF LAW" AND NOT MEN.

WE "WANT" WHAT JEFFERSON WANTED !   THAT'S ALL...AND WE CAN'T GET PAST THE DAMN "MONEY PEOPLE" TO ELECT ONE !

WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO "INFLUENCE ANYONE" BUT WE CAN DAMN SURE" EXERCISE WHAT JEFFERSON RECOMMENDED...IN SUCH TIMES....."FREEDOM OF SPEECH" !

SO, ORRIN HATCH & MITT ROMNEY CAN "DESPISE THE TEA PARTY ALL THEY WANT" BUT AS LONG AS I HAVE BREATH "THEY WILL NOT SHUT MY DAMN ALABAMA MOUTH" !

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS??

Ron

You wrote, "SO, it is not time to pick up our chips and reward the bad behavior of the Republican party...ONE MORE TIME?"

The GOP certainly behaved badly when they spent too and Bush signed the bills -- once.

Would you rather reward the Democrats for their Affordable Housing, which created all those Sub-Prime mortgages, which crashed our economy in 2008?

GOP sins are ones of ignorance.

Dem sins are ones of "Redistribution of Wealth", a euphemism for "Stealing from the Haves".

I agreed with this. The Republican party is not interest in running true constitutional conservatives for office. The state party here in Pennsylvania endorse an candidate for U.S. Senate in the primary that actually vote for Obama in the 2008 presidential primary.  It is time for the tea party to realize that we must totally replace the Republican party with a new political entity. I will vote in November but not in the president's race. Romney is not acceptable after McCain, Dole, etc.

Republicans have short memories, Bob Dole and John McCain endorse Romney. It's the Establishment Republicans who lost to Democratic club.  Thanks Newt Gingrich for 1994, thanks TeaParty & Reaganites for 2010, now sit down shut up & do what you're told! - Rush Limbaugh reads letter from friend who is dumbfounded that Romney will be our nominee...: http://youtu.be/XiQl-a31i8I
