Just when you think the Romney campaign might be getting its act together, Romney goes overseas.
Romney stepped in it by criticizing London’s preparations for the Olympic games. Granted Romney is one of the few people in the world who has actually run the Olympic games, but the point is not whether the games are being run well. The point is can Romney avoid gaffes?
Romney does not understand the basics. He has an adversarial media. It is not simply adversarial. NBC, which featured an interview with Brian Williams, is effectively the media arm for the Obama reelection campaign.
Perhaps the next time Romney wants to give an interview to NBC, he should cut his pain by just giving an interview to Obama for America.
Unfortunately Romney’s performance on his World Mitt Tour should scare the hell out of all of the Republicans.
Romney is so undisciplined; he might actually manage to blow this election.
Newt Gingrich was accused, probably accurately, of being undisciplined in his campaigning. He may have been, but he had a brilliance and a media savvy that would let him recover quickly and often turn a gaffe into an offensive moment. Romney lacks this.
Romney’s strategy to win is to simply outspend any opponent. That worked for him in the primaries. If his fundraising continues, he might be able to do this in the general. On the other hand, no one should underestimate the ability of the Party of Treason to raise money so they can stay in power.
Romney may be as bad as Obama when it comes to going off script. Without his Teleprompters, Obama is lost. When Romney goes off script, he too is lost.
Romney needs to learn a few things. He is not going to get a fair shake from the media. The media loved Romney in the primaries when he was bashing real conservatives. But he has just learned the John McCain lesson. Now that the primaries are over, the drive-by media is going back to its 2008 role of being the media arm for Barack Obama.
While the media built up the perception of Barack Obama as a rock star during his 2008 Europe trip, the narrative that is coming out of Romney’s trip is that he is incapable of anything but mistakes and errors.
While Romney will get some help from the new conservative media, the drive-by media will do what it does every election. It will be in the tank for the Democrat.
Unless something unprecedented happens in the next month, Romney will be nominated. At that point, unless Romney can significantly outspend Obama this fall, we may see four more years of Obama.
Maybe Romney should be calling Newt Gingrich for some fast lessons on how to handle the media. His current strategy isn’t working.
Permalink Reply by Craig Clark on July 27, 2012 at 9:09am Non-Story - every political candidate makes gaffes and the media is always against the pro-freedom (i.e. conservative) candidate. Yes, Mitt does have to run an agressive campaign, and this election is not in the bag. But if we panic every time the media slants a story, we will end up under a doctor's care long before this election.
Wait until the last 2 months - that is when the campaign really starts because that is when the moderates (i.e. ignorant) start to pay attention. Then is when it will get fierce.

Permalink Reply by Katie Kalpin on July 27, 2012 at 9:11am Now see, none of this would have happened if Newt was our guy. We have nothing but Spinless cowards in the GOP and those Spineless cowards are STUPID! Why can't Mittens just keep his fat mouth silent for once? He needs to just stay quite until he is either 100% the front runner or he is elected (Shuddering here.) We need some one that is strong and would NOT make us look foolish and Mitt is not that guy! Newt however would have kept his mouth shut and just talked to the UK about the Relationship we have ith them and so on. We really do need Newt, this Mittens is going to finish sinking us. If I must I will vote for him on election day, but I will more about Congress than anything else and that's what my election donations are going towards. This is the same butt clown that wants Pawlenty to be his running mate. That just scares me in the worst way. We have Tea Party Patriots that would be a great fit like West or Palin or Bachmann but he picks Pawlenty? Now here he is insulting our allies. GIVE ME A BREAK! When in the world are we going to wake up and put a MAN or a WOMAN into office and NOT these idiots with no CLUE? I am sorry but I am DANGED sick of it all.
Permalink Reply by Katzi44 on July 27, 2012 at 9:11am Romney did just fine! I am so tired of your constant bashing of him. Stop it already. He is the candidate, like it or not. And he is the only way to defeat Obama and all of us need to bolster his chances not put more cracks in his armor.
Permalink Reply by Lee Hoecherl on July 27, 2012 at 2:42pm I agree Katz144, At times this Tea Party forum bashes Romney more than the Dem's do.
Permalink Reply by JOHN DELASAUX on July 27, 2012 at 2:57pm It's time for Judson to lay off the Republican and start working on the message which will ensure the defeat of Mr. Destruction -- Premier Obama.

Permalink Reply by Jack Ranck on July 28, 2012 at 8:21am Romney ISN'T the candidate yet -- the Convention hasn't taken place. He's the PRESUMPTIVE candidate. There is a big difference.
Permalink Reply by Mary Creekmore on July 27, 2012 at 9:12am Ah come on, what could have been worse than giving the Queen of England an IPod and you have to admit the British Olympic crew already had it in for Romney before he ever got there. They've done nothing but bungle things since everything began; (the bus filled with olympiads getting lost for hours - really?) and they were the smart alecks throwing the first punches. I think his response to them was appropriate.
The difference is that our State Run Media down-played the IPod and highlights any possible gaffs by the Repubs. To the point of taking it out of context, of course!
Permalink Reply by Juls on July 27, 2012 at 10:28am Agreed, but I've grown tired of having to dumb down the message to accomodate the brainless robots in this country, defined as those who only obtain their 'news' from the major news networks. The fact is we could put up the absolute perfect candidate and you would never convince the braindead to vote for him or her. So why does our side continue to pattern their message in order to appeal to this bunch?
