You remember CNN. They pioneered cable news. They are now an interesting footnote in history. They have so few viewers now that you could get their average hourly viewership into the back of a Greyhound bus.
At CNN, they are getting desperate. Rush Limbaugh thinks he knows what they are going to do.
From WND.Com:
With CNN firmly entrenched in the abyss of the ratings sewer, radio host Rush Limbaugh is predicting a shift in the political viewpoint of the cable news network.
“I think I figured out what CNN’s gonna do to try to recapture their lost glory,” Limbaugh said this afternoon on his top-rated program.
“I think they’re gonna move further to the left, try to even ‘out-left’ MSNBC. That’s based on a couple of things I’ve seen. It’s too early to know for certain. Too soon to tell right now. But it looks to me like that CNN is gonna move even further left in their valiant effort to recapture the 98 percent of their audience that they’ve lost since the 1980s.”
CNN is at a 20-year low when it comes to viewership.
The drive by media is about at the same stage as the dinosaurs shortly after the meteor hit the world millions of years ago.
They are dying.
Why?
Because they put ideology above common sense.
Let’s look at the numbers. About 43% of Americans self identify as conservatives. About 30% self identify as moderates or independents and about 21% self identify as liberal. The rest either don’t idenitify or claim to be something else.
The drive by media represents only one segment of the American population and the smallest one at that. You have ABC news, CBS News, PBS, NBC and MSNBC all chasing that 21% segment of the population. Only Fox, which crushes its competition is going for the larger pond.
Fox has moderated quite a bit over the last couple of years and it is hard to call it a conservative network like it was say three years ago. But it is still reaching into that largest segement of the American population.
Meanwhile CNN fights with the other drive bys for the tiniest segment of the viewing audience.
Memo to CNN: Do you want to pull your ratings out of the toilet and compete and perhaps even Fox News?
Go conservative.
Instead of programs like Cheerleading for Obama with Solidad O’Brien, how about conservative programs?
How about putting Tea Party people on a show? Would that do any worse than Piers Morgan’s show? Does anyone even watch that show?
How about a conservative talk show like Sean Hanity’s show? There are a lot of conservative talk hosts out there.
The possibilities are endless.
The question for CNN is, are they in this for ideology or are they in this for profit and for their shareholders?
If it is just ideology, keep going. You will soon have fewer viewers than the English language version of the Mongolian Cultural channel.
If it is about profit, then you know what you need to do.

IMHO (which is an educated opinion, BTW), it's all about ideology. These are missionaries,
working to convert savages to the one, true(?) religion; that is their mission, their reason for
being. They need not worry about the money (i.e., profits); George Soros has very deep
pockets. As long as they can continue to attract a few who will hear their message, the
Apostle George will continue to pick up the bill. Not to worry, they'll be around until the very
end. The only question is: How will it end?
Semper Fi!
