In liberal land, also known as Los Angeles, it should be no shock that the City Council wants to repeal the First Amendment.  After all, they are a bunch of liberal hacks and they cannot stand the idea that someone disagrees with them.  The LA city council would do so well in the kind of socialist dictatorship they seem to prefer.

What has happened now?

From Los Angeles CBS:

City Council members took a step closer on Wednesday to becoming the first in the nation to adopt a resolution condemning certain types of speech on public airwaves.

Councilmember Jan Perry introduced legislation that would call upon media companies to ensure “on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs” on radio and other broadcasts.

Members of Black Media Alliance, National Hispanic Media Coalition, Korean-American Bar Association, American Indians in Film and Television were on hand to voice their support for the proposal.

The resolution — which was also supported by Councilmember Bernard Parks and Council President Herb Wesson — called attention to the recent uproar over comments by KFI 640 AM talk show hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou.

Kobylt and Chiampou were suspended after they called the late pop singer Whitney Houston a “crack ho” three days after her death in February.

The proposal cites a “long history of racially offensive comments as well as deplorable sexist remarks, particularly towards women and Black, Latino, and Asian communities” at KFI 640 and calls for parent company Clear Channel Communications to hire a more diverse workforce to offset the trend.

I have one brief message for the Los Angeles city council and my message is protected by the First Amendment.

The Whitney Houston incident is simply a pretext.  They do not want diversity.  In fact, they want just the opposite.  They want conservatives silenced.

The Los Angeles city council’s idea of deplorable comments is conservative speech.  They do not like people pointing out that socialism sucks.

I have a better idea.  Instead of a resolution repealing the First Amendment, why don’t you clowns on the LA city council resign?  You are not public servants.  You are a disgrace.   You are a disgrace to America.

Since one third of LA students drop out, perhaps you Bozos could join them in a remedial civics class that would start with an explanation of the First Amendment and freedom of speech.

In the meanwhile, hopefully Clear Channel will tell the LA city council to go to hell and how to get there.

Their oath is to protect and uphold the Constitution... that includes the First Amendment.  They need to be recalled for not holding to their end of the bargain.

Deb,  Bad news! the only people in L.A. that can effect them is La Raza. They don't care about you and I or our constitution. They are amidst an overthrow of America, er, white America

Political correctness out of control.

“The notion of political correctness declares certain topics, certain expressions, even certain gestures, off-limits. What began as a crusade for civility has soured into a cause of conflict and even censorship.”  George Bush

So, tell me Judson, how do you really feel about the leftists efforts to remove all our explicitly enumerated rights?

Article I, Section 8 enumerates the powers of Congress.  Some rights are endorsed in the Constitution, specifically in the Bill of Rights.  The Bill of Rights was intended to codify rights already granted by our Creator.  So the Constitution does not endow us with any rights.  It only codifies that the government cannot infringe on our rights.  And the Ninth Amendment states that those certain enumerated rights are not to be construed as all inclusive.

Of course, the Obama administration has already ignored or transgressed Amendments I, II and IV.  And the way he has overstepped his powers expressed in Article II so many times in so many ways wit boggles the imagination.  And his party leadership in the Congress has ignored the limitations of their enumerated powers to the extent that one questions whether they have ever even read the Constitution.

The only hope for this nation to remain as a representative republic is for us to read the first phrase of the preamble to the Constitution and act on it.  We must stand up and shout, "We are 'We the People'!"

If they succeed with this, and the broadcast stations stand for it without fighting, you can kiss your first amendment rights goodbye everywhere.  Sometimes 'free speech' is not pretty, nor is it correct, but when we start muzzling this speech, we are going down a very dangerous path.

Next, they will prohibit English to be spoken on the air waves and in council chambers.

It won't be long before those who support the Constitution and our freedoms will be outnumbered by those who are far left liberals/Marxists.  Public schools have been indoctrinating students for a long time - and they will become voters soon.  It isn't accidental that most of those who are very concerned are older European Americans.  Even our history is being rewritten to be all-inclusive and to paint a negative picture of every European who ever came to America. Who do we blame for all of this?  It sure wasn't something any of us voted for....and it didn't just begin with the current POTUS either.

I'm old enough to remember when the term 'racial equality' on the air waves in the South would have been fighting words. In a free society speech may not be pretty, but it reflects the times.  When society changes so does speech, but that's no reason to make certain speeches reflecting past times or future times illegal.  On another note, why is it OK for one segment of society, e.g., rap singers, to call a woman a 'crack ho', but everyone wants to make it illegal for other groups to say the same thing?

Tony, you hit the nail on the head. Great point if people cannot figure of the answer after that statement then its hopeless.

Ya know, I was born in Long Beach and raised in northern calif by Dems/liberals...I have since 78 been in the south. when I first moved here I thought I was in another world (and I was) after some time it really grew on me and I love it.... I would not trade my conservatiemness lol for any of whats out there north or south...am starting to think Calif needs to be its own country...as they start way to much trouble and are truly a land of fruits and nuts! Not all but most of em....sad to say...
