I went over on HuffingtonPost to to see the reaction to last night's Tea Party Convention.

Many of our opponents are saying "It is all noise, no substance".

I decided to join their conversations for the first time ever, and after some explanation, some of the people dogging the movement realized that they are actually Tea Partiers too!

The problem is they are looping us in with Republicans. This is mostly due to FoxNews giving us the only positive coverage and Palin being the key note speaker.

We are conservative but I would hardly call this a Republican movement.

After I let them know that most of us don't like any of the current Republicans or Democrats in control, it seemed to hit a chord.

I believe the people we choose to be our next leaders should have the following as the pillars of their platform for 2010.

  • Reign in the debt
  • Push Fair Tax (HR 25, S 296) fairtax.org
  • Audit the Federal Reserve
  • Make congressional salaries equivalent to the average of their constituents with a cap of the current salaray
I believe America, liberal and conservative, can get behind something like that.  Let's walk the walk!

What does everyone else think?

And as you reply, remember that CNN/MSNBC are already saying we are fractured.   Let's have some civil conversation.

If you do disagree, it is quite possible I am missing something and I am open to suggestions.

I look forward to a healthy discussion!

Chad

I don't think any of them are running in 2010. Do you think I should copy and paste the data from the senate web site here? I am not sure how things work. Also, I got an email from a group i belong to, Citizens against government waste. They have a report called PRIME CUTS which are programs that they feel could be eleminated that would save several trillion over a 5 year period. I plan to go through it in depth as time allows. Also, I thought I might place copies of the votes on web sites specific for the state here on Tea Party Nation. Would that cause a problem, do you think? I have not been a member of this site very long and am not sure.
Thanks.
I actually bought TeaPartyWorthy.com and was thinking of a way that we could put everyone out there so we could see them, and somehow "vote" or at least debate whether or not they are worthy of voting for.

I haven't decided how I want to do it, any suggestions?
I think it is a great idea, but am not sure of how it could be executed.

Example, got an email from Freedom Works about a back door way the administration is trying to get Cap and Trade through.
Now, I am in favor of Clean Air, Clean Water, whatever....I am not in favor of carbon taxes and carbon credits that do nothing for the enviroment. but raise costs.I would like to look at the bill before writing my senator as requested as he is one of two senators that introduced the bill. I can't find it! I do not know whether the EPA is writing it, enforcing it, how in line the reductions are etc, I just can't make a value judgement on "talking points". So .....first would be determine
how we find bills at issue and not after the fact. Second, I would definitely include a rating as to whether or not they are "Porkers"--how they are rated by CAGW (citizens against government waste). A short synopsis of the bills should be included. I am not tech, but a format such as Access might be good, but have no clue how you would put it on the internet. How much they flipflop on issues. Just brain stoming here.

Any ideas as to where to find the Clean Air Act of 2010??
I like the name and the thought. I just don't think it is workable to try and chase these people issue by issue.

I too am brainstorming, but I think we need to get our demands and expectations defined and published first. Somehow we need to get these in front of current and potential office holders and we need their pledge or agreement or whatever we call it.

From that pont we can watch their performance and rate that against issues as they play out. If they do well, we continue to support them, if not we bury them with our next candidate.

Somehow we need to establish and maintain essentially 100% agreement within ourselves so we vote with a huge hammer and over time everyone knows they dare not disappoint or violate their commitment or pledge to us.

If we stray off into individual issues, I guarantee we will have internal fractures and instead of one voting block we will be 5 million sub blocks, each voting our individual biases. We will never have perfect candidates, so if we fracture, our power will be gone.

Also if we make our individual preferences and issues known publicly, the media and the parties will use those to paint us as radical extremists, rubes, Christian radicals or whatever. They are looking for anything they can get to divide, minimize and dishearten us.

We need 3 or 4 well defined goals and standards which we require. We also need something like the talking points that our opposition use to stay on message and to repeat our message and to prevent us from getting lured into obtuse questions and directions which will be taken out of context and used against us.

My reading of tea party sites, tells me that we are spending far more energy debating issues and personalities and whether they are good or bad for our group. we need to be discussing what we agree on and what makes us stronger and more unified.
I am getting real frustrated. I like to be able to back anything I say up with proof. The Senator of my state is proposing the Clean Energy Act Admentment of 2010. I can find the press release, I actually found the bill once, but when I tried to retrieve it through history it was gone. My problem with this bill is that #1 the press release did not reference the actual bill number so it could easily be found. #2 The reason I want to find it is because it DELEGATES the responsibility of Congress to the EPA. #3 I may be wrong, but I consider this to be unconstitutional because the EPA is not elected by the people.

I consider this to be a really big deal. The talking points in the press release sound great, but I want the real picture. This is one reason I don't trust our elected officials

I see Chad's vision of a "table" in my mind's eye. It should be relatively easy if it is updated daily--I just don't know where to get the information on pending bills. There aren't that many people running in 2012.

I don't care about social issues.....I am all about fiscal responsibility. Sorry to be such a gripe.
Notice you don't hear about that in the MSM. These are the things we need to make people aware of.
I agree that it is a fight between the Progressive movement and followers of the constitution. To this end, I have told
all the Republican groups I used to donate to that I will no longer donate to a PAC, but to individual candidates, I also
believe that we must start working NOW to do what we can to rein in government expenditures by at least supporting Congress people who are working toward that goal. Term limits will be a long time in coming--but we are facing a mountain of debt and it is not being addressed. Addressing duplicate government programs can save some monies.
Decreasing salaries of government employees across the board would be awesome. I have read, but not researched, that a 20% reduction would completely pay for Medicaid.
Sounds like a good plan to me. Know of a good resource that we can quickly determine voting past of every congressman in table format?
Dear Chad: To quickly determine voting past is the rub. You can go on senate.gov and find the voting record for a specific bill. The AFL/CIO keeps a table on voting records for issues specific to them and whether or not the Congress person voted "right or wrong". But....
Before I contribute to a campaign, I really research to see if I agree--like the Texas governor--I don't live in Texas--really don't have a dog in that fight, but....I am intrigued by what Medina stands for. I like Sarah Palin, but feel her support for Rick Perry smacks of cronyism. Same goes for McCain--though I haven't made up my mind whether or not he is the lesser of the evils. They don't make life easy on you when you are researching. I am contributing to candidates out of my state like Kentucky, California Arizona and Florida at this time.

My project is eleminating government agencies. My brother's is term limits. I would like to get really focused on this, just don't yet know how I am going to do it.

I really appreciate communication with folks at the Tea Party Nation. Thanks.
I am a tech guy so I would like to make them more efficient via technology. We may need to get together and come up with a plan.
Well, I am a worker bee--point me in a direction and I will help. I am just not very creative.
Yes I know a lot of slop gets put in at the end and then it is voted on even if the lawmakers don't agree with the slop because the bigger thing is more important.

And then their opponents will say down the line "So and so voted for this -- and that is bad", even though "So and so" was voting on the main component which was good, and the slop was the bad part.

If we just had a voting record for the main items in the bill we could really start looking at who does what. We can get more granular if needed.
