Jackpot Justice

In a courtroom in Nashville, an outrage continues and thanks to the activism of a liberal Federal Judge, an illegal alien is going to score a big case of jackpot justice. 

From the Nashville Tennessean:

A federal judge on Tuesday kneecapped the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office’s attempts to limit how much it might have to pay a jailed woman employees shackled while she was in labor.

U.S. District Judge William J. Haynes Jr. barred the only two experts the sheriff’s office had planned to call to help argue Juana Villegas’ anguish resulted not from being shackled during labor, but because she was terrified about being deported. In a second blow, Haynes also banned discussion of Villegas’ immigration status in court proceedings as irrelevant to what damages she should receive for having her rights violated.

Villegas was in the country illegally in 2008 when a traffic stop led to her being jailed and giving birth to her son Gael in custody. She was detained for deportation under a federal program the sheriff’s office runs known as 287(g).

Villegas was arrested for a traffic offense in 2008.  She was an illegal alien who had been previously deported and had snuck back into the United States.

Haynes ruled in April that the sheriff’s office violated Villegas’ rights by shackling her during and after labor and by prohibiting her from having a breast pump when she returned to the jail from the hospital. A federal jury has been seated to decide what, if any, financial damages she is owed.

Anyone want to guess who appointed Haynes to the bench?  No, it was not Obama.  It was Clinton.

The Davidson County (Nashville) Sheriff’s office has been involved in the 287(g) program which allows them to identify illegal aliens when arrested and detain them for the Department of Homeland Security.   The illegal alien advocates in Nashville have been pressing the sheriff to do away with the program so Nashville can be a safe place for illegals to commit crimes. 

Here, we have a Federal Judge who wants to make sure Davidson County gets punished for enforcing the laws.

This illegal is going to be a jackpot justice winner.  Hopefully Davidson County will appeal the rulings and the 6^th Circuit will impose some sanity on the judicial process.
