Rick Santorum dropped out of the Presidential race today. His campaign story could only be described as being unlikely at best, having been at the end of the pack for most of the run up to Iowa.
His exit effectively makes Romney the nominee. My Newt friends have been blowing out my email box in the last couple of hours saying Newt still has a chance.
I wish that Newt did still have a chance. He does not and honestly I expect in the not too distant future we will see Newt suspend his campaign as well. Newt simply does not have the resources to compete with Romney.
But the question becomes do we conservatives get behind Romney?
No, we do not get behind Romney.
We get behind an idea.
Freedom and liberty are ideas. They inspire men to do great things. They inspire men and women to make great sacrifices to obtain their God-given, inalienable rights.
We conservatives have been looking for our next Ronald Reagan. However, Ronald Reagan did not launch the conservative revolution. His ideas launched the Reagan revolution. The Tea Party movement began in 2009 without a leader. The Tea Party movement began from a common idea.
Our idea is better than the ideas of the left. Our ideas of conservatism and small government are better than the left’s ideas of statism and socialism.
None of those ideas belong to a single individual. None of our candidates this time around was named conservative. They were named Gingrich, Cain, Perry and Bachmann.
Conservatism and liberty cannot be stopped.
Just because none of the conservative candidates won, we have not lost.
We need an idea to advance the cause of liberty and to attack the bastions of big government.
9-9-9 is such an idea.
Our tax and spending policies are a disaster. They are broken. Big taxation and big government only work for those who are getting the benefits of big government. For the rest of us, for real Americans, they do not work.
9-9-9 is not a perfect plan.
Guess what? Our standard is not perfection. Anything that helps us advance the cause of shrinking a massively bloated and corrupt Federal Government is a good thing.
We the people led the GOP to victory in 2010. We can lead again.
It is not the candidate that matters. It is the idea of conservatism.
Tea Party activists are going to Washington this Monday and Tuesday because our ideas are important. We know ideas will lead.
There is an old bumper sticker that says, “If the people will lead, the leaders will follow.”
Forget Romney. He is not important. Our ideas are. We must get behind our ideas and push forward. Romney will get behind us.
Let’s lead with the ideas of freedom and liberty that made America great.

Permalink Reply by Chas Jones on April 10, 2012 at 4:25pm Well, Judson, I sent Newt more cash TODAY! And unlike you, I encourage EVERYONE to contribute to Newt and watch the conservative tsunami! Judson, I admire and respect you, but I could not possibly disagree more with your surrender.
I do agree with this Blog Topic that our ideas are the best and that our nominee MUST embrace our conservative policy positions as well as our principles and values.
I just won't surrender till someone HAS secured those 1144 delegates ... And I doubt Newt will surrender either!

Permalink Reply by Chas Jones on April 10, 2012 at 5:14pm Newt is a principled conservative with an awesome history of results ... unlike Romney. I consider every penny invested in Newt and his ideas-oriented campaign an excellent investment!
Permalink Reply by Wesley Lennon on April 11, 2012 at 9:16am The difference is, Newt can eat Obama alive and spit him out on the floor. High profile Republicans agree that Romney has message, but has no personality or likeability to win against Obama, whereas Newt can contest with facts. The man has a mind like a steel trap, he does not forget anything and has the ability to put it into words anyone can understand (even Obama). The "O" will spew his lies, countered by Gingrich.
Permalink Reply by brad rebers on April 10, 2012 at 4:25pm I agree with Mr Philips in point, however our No.1 problem is Romney and the GOP Establishment who will not listen, since Romney who will not win in November and if he does win will probably backstab us like Boehner and McConnell I say get behind Ron Paul till convention time then help Paul in a Third Party Bid, the best idea is help the GOP go the way of the Whigs.

Permalink Reply by Sally on April 10, 2012 at 4:29pm 9-9-9- has join Romney.. Conservationist is not just MONEY!! It is getting back to God and doing things the way our Funding fathers did.! Newt has it all!
Newt doesn't have the Money? is not worth our Freedom to spend some money backing someone who will get us back on tract... in every way!!. If we don't we will have NO money to spend on anything.. ! That is my humble opinion..! .. !
999 = a VAT tax. A brand new tax. That idea sucks.
Get rid of the income tax so we can start politicking in our churchs again.
Now that's an idea who's time has come.
Oh, yeah, there still is another guy in this race. He's now pulling Palin sized 10,000+ crowds.
Henry - "politicking in our churchs again".
Get hold of a copy of Newt's "To Save America" and turn to page 279. He has a whole section on how the churches can take a more active role and he makes some very encouraging observations. (Since LBJ put that law in no church has lost its non-profit status, for example.)
Also, at our founding Rev. George Whitefield was a very influential factor. You might want to look him up. I found out about him on Glenn Beck. Taken together these ideas might help persuade a reluctant pastor that the church does indeed have a role in politics.
