Rick Santorum dropped out of the Presidential race today. His campaign story could only be described as being unlikely at best, having been at the end of the pack for most of the run up to Iowa.
His exit effectively makes Romney the nominee. My Newt friends have been blowing out my email box in the last couple of hours saying Newt still has a chance.
I wish that Newt did still have a chance. He does not and honestly I expect in the not too distant future we will see Newt suspend his campaign as well. Newt simply does not have the resources to compete with Romney.
But the question becomes do we conservatives get behind Romney?
No, we do not get behind Romney.
We get behind an idea.
Freedom and liberty are ideas. They inspire men to do great things. They inspire men and women to make great sacrifices to obtain their God-given, inalienable rights.
We conservatives have been looking for our next Ronald Reagan. However, Ronald Reagan did not launch the conservative revolution. His ideas launched the Reagan revolution. The Tea Party movement began in 2009 without a leader. The Tea Party movement began from a common idea.
Our idea is better than the ideas of the left. Our ideas of conservatism and small government are better than the left’s ideas of statism and socialism.
None of those ideas belong to a single individual. None of our candidates this time around was named conservative. They were named Gingrich, Cain, Perry and Bachmann.
Conservatism and liberty cannot be stopped.
Just because none of the conservative candidates won, we have not lost.
We need an idea to advance the cause of liberty and to attack the bastions of big government.
9-9-9 is such an idea.
Our tax and spending policies are a disaster. They are broken. Big taxation and big government only work for those who are getting the benefits of big government. For the rest of us, for real Americans, they do not work.
9-9-9 is not a perfect plan.
Guess what? Our standard is not perfection. Anything that helps us advance the cause of shrinking a massively bloated and corrupt Federal Government is a good thing.
We the people led the GOP to victory in 2010. We can lead again.
It is not the candidate that matters. It is the idea of conservatism.
Tea Party activists are going to Washington this Monday and Tuesday because our ideas are important. We know ideas will lead.
There is an old bumper sticker that says, “If the people will lead, the leaders will follow.”
Forget Romney. He is not important. Our ideas are. We must get behind our ideas and push forward. Romney will get behind us.
Let’s lead with the ideas of freedom and liberty that made America great.

Permalink Reply by Mike NQR on April 10, 2012 at 4:37pm Who says Newt hasn't a chance either? He came back from the dead twice. Third time's a charm and it's all about timing and momentum.
Permalink Reply by Judson Phillips on April 10, 2012 at 4:40pm Numbers. If Santorum had pulled out a couple of months ago, Newt would still have a chance. Romney has over half the delegates he needs and Santorum is discussing an endorsement. That would send a lot of Santorum's delegates to Romney.
I've used the baseball analogy before. It is like a team that is 33 games out of 1st place with 30 games left to play. In theory could they come back. Yes. Will it happen? No.
Permalink Reply by Chas Jones on April 10, 2012 at 5:21pm Your analogy is flawed as in this contest one only needs to play defense and deny the opponent 1144 "runs" or politically speaking, delegates. Also, you appear to think it a fait a compli that IF Santorum makes an endorsement that he would endorse Romney. I strongly encourage Santorum and his supporters to stand with conservatives. If Santorum endorses Romney it will be an act of blatant hypocrisy and make a lie of his entire campaign.
I seem to hold more regard for Santorum than you do.
Permalink Reply by Diogenes on April 10, 2012 at 4:40pm I think we have to start with: If not Romney ( I agree there heartily ) what do we need to win and I think it should be collegiate to include Tea Party Patriots. For me I like General Avery to lead.
What "is" is, and Romney is going to be the candidate to challenge this Marxist a******; I will support Romney to the grave now. I just hope he picks a good, solid VP; we shall see. Yes.......I wanted Newt, but that's life isnt it. I, ...we, are now paying for the years we went to "sleep" and trusted the gov. Unlike our ancestors who gave it all for freedom.
Permalink Reply by Debrajoe Smith-Beatty on April 10, 2012 at 4:43pm Jerold if we don't get it right, we will be (forced) to give it all. Obama will steal it.
Permalink Reply by Sally on April 10, 2012 at 4:49pm I am easy to send Newt more cash too. I think the response will be great! Texas may swing to Newt.. and give him the Money he needs...!
It is NOT time to give up. !!!!

Permalink Reply by Patricia Castellano on April 10, 2012 at 4:52pm Yes, I think that if everyone sent money to Newt and backed him up, he may win. My vote is still for Newt.
